Mavasu was in one of his horrible grumpy moods once again. Though it seemed like most every day now he was always in one of those moods. After he had gotten back from the slave sale he shipped his new slave off to a small area where he was instructed to stay and not speak to anyone until he was called for. The patriarch had not seen the slave in a few days and had nearly forgotten the foal. Out of nowheres he remembered that he had the little red slave and decided that it was time for the slave to learn the rules of what he was to do.
'Slave! Come here at once!' Mavasu yelled not bothering to remember his slave's name. As far as he was concerned his slave had no name.

The young aeri had been laying in a corner of the cave, awaiting his master's return. He had probably been forgotten; that was nothing new, he was usually easily forgotten by many. When he heard his master call, he jumped up and raced out as fast as possible. If he fell, on his head it would be. The slave of the patriarch could not afford to trip or make any sort of mistake.
He halted a few feet in front of Mavasu, careful not to get too close. He had to be this far away, thankfully, to avoid the lashing hooves, but also because it would not do for a slave to be so close to his master. He bowed his head immediately, his pink nose almost touching the ground, and he remained in that position. "I am here, Master, what is it that I can do to serve you?" He hoped that would be all right to say... Then again, one never knew with the patriarch.

When at last the aeri had reached Mavasu he couldn't help but snort in anger at the foal. In his eyes it had taken far to long to get to him even if it was just a few seconds. 'So you think you can serve me slave?' he asked his voice harsh. 'You're just a weak little aeri foal who probaly can't even fly yet. How can you possibly serve me?' He took a few steps towards the foal and snorted. This slave stood out like a sore thumb being all bright red and pink and that it was an aeri.
'A weak little aeri foal is all you are.' And to prove his point he nudged the foal hard with his head to try to cause the foal to fall.

He had tried very hard to run out as fast as he could, but he knew at once it wasn't fast enough. He bowed his head lower, his muzzle between his spindly legs, and nodded. "Yes, Master, I am here to please and serve you. I cannot fly, but I will fly if you require it, Master." He didn't know how he was going to fly without anyone teaching him, but he would find a way to if it meant he wouldn't be beaten.
He was caught off-guard by the sharp nudge and he stumbled backwards, but tripped on his own legs and toppled over. Without a word he shot up onto all fours, his head bowed again. "I am a weak little foal, sire, but I am here to please and serve you to the best of my ability." His insides were churning, absolutely terrified that he would be beaten for falling over. True, Mavasu pushed him on purpose, but that didn't matter at all to the patriarch, he knew. He had not stayed standing, he had shown weakness, and he knew he would pay the price for it. To try and forestall his punishment, he licked his lips but did not look up at his owner. "What is it that I can do for you, my Lord? A humble servant, a slave, am I, my one and only purpose is to do what I am told and to do whatever you ask of me."

Mavasu knew that eventually he'll have to find someone to teach the slave to fly. Perhaps he'll give the foal back to the trader for flying lessons later on. For he knew that the trader would not be nice like anyone else would be. Looking back at the foal he glared at it annoyed that it had fallen over when he had nudged it. 'I am glad that you acknowledge that you are indeed a weak little foal. You are to still be punished for falling over though.' His voice held a sinister tone to it.
'You are to stay standing for three days straight. No laying down at all. Should I catch you laying down you will be punished severely. Understood slave?' Mavasu's voice rose as he spoke and he was nearly yelling at the aeri slave. 'A weak little aeri foal is all you are. You'll be not of much service to me.'

Rowan nodded hesitantly, then outstretched one foreleg and tucked the other in, and tucking his head in as well in a full bow. He straightened up but kept his head bowed. "Yes, sire, I must be punished for being weak. I understand completely, my Lord, I will not even think of resting for three days straight. I will work hard and do my very best to serve you, Master. I will not be of much service but I will do everything that I can to please you, if you so desire." He bowed his head lower, trying to think of how else he could appeal to the patriarch.
"Though I am still but a weak foal, I shall do my best to grow stronger and faster so that I may serve you better, my Lord. I will even learn to fly without help if you so desire, Master. I am here to serve you," he closed his eyes and bowed his head lower. He hated to call someone 'Lord' and 'Master' but he wouldn't dare to disobey Mavasu, for he was the ruthless, merciless patriarch, and to disobey Mavasu would be to sign one's own death wish, and he certainly didn't want to die an early death. Somehow, it didn't appeal to him all that much, so his best hope of surviving with as little injuries as possible was to do exactly what Mavasu said as fast and as well-performed as possible.

Mavasu snorted angerily as he listened to the foal go on and on and on. Even though the foal was trying to make up for it's weakness to him it just didn't seem like it knew when to shut up. 'Number one rule you weak aeri is that you are not to talk unless spoken to and keep all answers short. I will not punish you for running your mouth so much this time because I failed to instruct you of this before.' His voice stern as he glared at the foal. 'I find that you talk to anyone at all without my permission I shall have you punished. The only other person you may speak to if spoken to is the Queen. You are much to weak to even be in her presence.'
He looked away from the foal for a little while and didn't say anything snorting every few minutes. After twenty minutes have gone by Mavasu turned once more to the foal. 'Come you miserable aeri. We have things to do and you must keep up or there will be hell to pay.' The patriarch threatened before turning and walking away.

He closed his mouth, keeping it shut, and nodded quickly. "Yes Master," he said. He would have said more, but he feared a worse punishment than being forced to stay upright for three days straight. "Yes, my Lord," he said when Mavasu finished his speech about the little slave being too weak to be in the Queen's presence. He knew he would mess something up, like talking too much, but at least he wasn't being punished for it. He had received a warning. He would have to watch his mouth from now on.
He said nothing while his master was silent; his master had not spoken to him since, so he had no need to speak either. When Mavasu did talk, Rowan listened intently, head still bowed. When his master finished, he bobbed his head. "Yes, master," he said, then walked after Mavasu. He found that his master severely outpaced him, so he began trotting to try and keep up with him, still keeping a respectful distance, however.

Mavasu had some errands to run but didn't trust the foal to behave himself so unfortuntly he had to drag the stupid thing with him. Whoever it was that told him to get him one was going to die. He cared not that he was going faster then what the foal was capable of walking. Looking in the distance he saw one of the herd members that he wanted to talk to. 'Valerius! Wait right there!' he yelled his voice able to be heard for miles.

Rowan kept trotting after his master, able to keep up while trotting, then stumbled slightly as Mavasu's booming voice called out to someone named Valerius. Thankfully the little aeri didn't fall, so he kept trotting after his master. Hopefully this other herd member would take Mavasu's mind off of the little foal's deficiencies for a while...
Valerius' head shot up and he turned it to look for the source of the voice. It was unmistakably Mavasu's voice he heard, but where--oh, there. He turned around and walked forward a few paces, wondering if it would be good to walk towards him to meet him, or if he really meant him to stay put. He quickly made up his mind and trotted forward to meet him, not wanting to make Mavasu wait. "Yes, my Lord? What can I do for you today?" He asked after bowing low. Irritating the Patriarch was not on his list of things to do for the day.

Mavasu ignored the red aeri foal as he waited impatiently for the other to come to him. He glared at Valerius as he spoke and waited for him to finish with all the politeness that he demanded. 'You.' he started before turning his head back to look over at his slave to make sure he was still standing. 'You Valerius are to take charge over this stupid worthless slave when I have not the time for it.' He ordered his voice harsh as he spoke. 'When you have him in your possession you are not to treat him like a normal herd member. He is a slave and should be treated as such. You need not take charge of him now as I still have lessons to conduct with the weakling.'
Mavasu knew what the lessons were going to be like. They were going to be painful for the little foal slave. By the time the lessons would be done he figured that the foal would never step a hoof out of line again. He couldn't help but smirk at the thought of it. Turning his attention back to the other he had been talking to he turned his smirk into a glare. 'You will do as I ask won't you Valerius?'

The little foal stopped behind Mavasu. Again, not too close to be improper, and not too far to be scolded. He winced slightly whenever his master looked at him. Why did he have to be caught by these horrible feathered tear-marked creatures? Why did this one, the worst of the entire lot, have to pick him? Why? He kept his eyes focused on the ground, waiting for his master to either talk to him and expect an answer, or start moving again.
The warrior nodded, bowing once more. "I understand completely, my lord. I shall check in with you daily to see if you need me to watch him for you, so that you don't need to waste your valuable time looking for me. Are there any particular notes I need to know about beforehand, sire? Current punishments I might need to uphold, any notes I should take?" The creamy orange stallion asked, bowing before Mavasu again. He could tell the patriarch was irritated with his formalities but if he didn't use them, than he would be even angrier, so it was a lose-worse loss sort of situation. "By note-taking," he began, feeling he may need to elaborate a bit. The patriarch probably wouldn't care about the slave at all, he wouldn't need any extra information, but still, "I mean any progress of his, his best training methods, how obedient he is, if he steps out of line, if I think he needs to be punished, if I see him slacking or if he is caught talking to others..." He trailed off, hoping he added in enough punishment-ending things in there to avoid aggravating Mavasu.

Mavasu snorted in irritation and impatientness as he listened to the other speak. When at last the stallion had finished speaking he snorted once more and glared at him. 'He shall be trained as you see fit. It does not matter though if he learns to fly. Probaly better off if he doesn't learn for he could try to escape later on. If you see the need for him to learn then teach him or send him to the slave trader to be taught flying lessons.' he paused for a few seconds looking back at the foal. 'If he misbehaves you shall not punish him but report his misbehavings to me when he is returned to me. I shall deal with the punishments.' His tone of voice seemed evil as he spoke the last part looking at the foal as he spoke.

"Yes, my Lord," Valerius said, descending into a full bow in front of the patriarch. Why couldn't he be pleased with anything? Maybe if he just didn't talk much at all, then Mavasu wouldn't be so pissy. He always seemed like he had a wasp permanently stuck in his behind, or something like that. "When shall I come for him first, sire?" There, that was short and to the point. Maybe the brindled bay wouldn't be so irritated at that. But then again, one never knew with the patriarch. He was never pleased with anything or anyone, unless that herd member happened to be the Queen. The patriarch, he thought to himself, is just a grumpy little git. Ehehe, little.
Rowan heard Mavasu's menacing tone and closed his eyes, though the patriarch probably wouldn't notice, as the little Aeri's head was still lowered, nose almost brushing the ground. As it was, he was having a hard time trying to suppress the coughs that were trying to surface due to inhaling the red dust for so long.

"You can take the thing now and start his lessons." The patriarch said with a glare not even acknowledging that the other had bowed. "Slave! You do as you're told. If I hear one word of you stepping out of line just once, you will be punished severely." His voice was menacing as he turned to face the little Aeri foal. Stomping on the ground he managed to kick dirt up at the foal's face. The stallion just smirked as he turned his attention back to Valerius. "If this lower then dirt foal even attempts to escape," he paused a moment, "Break his legs and leave him somewheres to die."
Flicking his tail in the foal's face he shook his head as he turned to go off about his duties. "Return him to me when you feel his lessons have been achieved for the day. If he does not learn what you teach him, then he is to keep doing it until he gets it right. Even if it means, staying up all night without sleep." The patriarch left the two were they stood as he went to attend to his duties.
