You have one week to report to class after I send out a notice. After a week you'll be marked as absent. If you arrive late you'll be tardy and you will be required to make up the time with a homework assignment.

Thomas adusted the last desk into place. One single row, pushed close to the front. With only five students there was no need for a double row set-up...that and his last class hadn't been as attentive as he'd have liked. Only a fraction of the class had passsed. It was frusterating. Perhaps changing his methods a bit would yield better results.

The classroom was simple enough, lightly decorated with props that he intended on using perhaps in a more advanced classroom. Not this young... they'd have to learn the basics before adding anything.

He sighed, standing back away from the smaller desks. There was still time, quite a bit before the class was due to start. He insisted on arriving early, having everything set up, and perhaps take some time to look over and arrange his lesson plan.

Thomas moved back over to his desk, slowly seating himself. His small dwarf dragon laid against a steaming cup of tea, enjoying the warmth against his back. A piece of chalk lifted up behind him, slowly writing down the names of the students expected for that particular lesson. He'd heard about two of them... Cody had been a friend of two of his prior students, one of the three involved in the incident. Nearly died. Keivlos was the child with the hybrid that...seemed to be causing quite a bit of commotion. It promised to be an interesting term to say the least.

Magic!?

Cody snorted as he stomped his way down the hallway, followed closely by his younger brother, Edan. The boy insisted that learning a new skill just might be a good idea... but Magic was hardly something that was entirely 'up his ally' so to speak. And it was that creepy teacher that Keanu and Paxton had mentioned shortly... they'd not been able to finish the class because of what had happened. Neither of them even needed magic, why did he? He had guns and his fists.

"Now please... please behave." Edan pleaded as they neared the door, straightening out the shoulders on Cody's vest. He was actually wearing a shirt even today despite the heat. It earned Edan a sharp slap and a glare out of his brother's single eye.

"I don't need no yackin' from you, hear? I'll do what I wanna...", He ground his teeth, glancing back into the classroom. The man looked funny...dark skin, white hair, yellow eyes. Something just seemed off, intimidating. He'd never been intimidated in his life. He hadn't heard much about the guy.

"Winter wants you to do well in school. Just... do it for her." Edan pleaded, taking a step away.

Cody groaned, lazily waving Edan away as he stepped into the classroom. He was met by the teacher's golden eyes, freezing him in place for a moment. "...uh...Howdy..." He said sheepishly, sliding himself into the nearest desk. The one right by the door. That was strangely involuntary...

Zyanya had mixed feelings about the class. For one her brother had highly recommended him, saying that the Teacher was tough but taught well. Now tough was a good word to at least make her consider joining the class.

Chewing on her lower lip an uncommonly seen sight of nervousness in her movements. She stopped just in front of the room noting Edan before moving in. Her steps were forced to look bold, she had been warned that this particular teacher could read minds. Well she would make it hard as possible to read her mind....how so..she wasn't sure on that part yet.

The classroom reminded her of a dungeon with a chalkboard. Never having really liked enclosed spaces, the only thing that took her mind away from that thought was spying a dark skinned bull boy she knew rather well. Striding up to him without a thought she cuffed him in the shoulder playfully and then gave a laugh.

"I get to have a class with you." she said the mirth still in her voice and shining eyes. The day would be better if there was someone she knew here. It took...a moment before realizing she had rudely and blantantly ignored greeting her teacher. Feeling a sinking in her gut she turned to finaly look at Thomas.

He was....hot. She couldn't help but jump tot that conclusion. The white hair...long and silky, golden eyes... flushing slightly as her thoughts ran amuck she quickly attempted to think of other things. She would die of embaressment if the teacher read her mind only to find out she thought he was good looking.

Offering no wave of greeting but a small bow of her head inclined towards his general direction she mumbeled a hello before moving to sit beside Cody. It seemed the most obvious place to be since no one else had shown up yet.

Ligeia told him about the teacher, saying that he was a good teacher once you got used to his methods. The idea annoyed Ter, not that the teacher had odd methods but that this was yet another teacher that Ligeia had before him. It was gonna be hard wasn't it? Trying to go into classes as that idiots brother. He gave a hissing sound then looked at the door to the classroom. He supposed that this just meant he was going to have to try that much harder right? Push himself so as not to get lost in the shadow of his brother right?

He slithered into the classroom and looked around, his eyes widened and he smiled seeing Zyanya. He was going to have a class with her? The idea had the end of his tail flicking back and forth before he moved over towards her, waving, "Z! Heh, this should be interesting." He said, grinning to the point that he was showing fangs. Finally got to have a class with her, how cool.

He looked at the one she was sitting next to and tilted his head to the side. Why did he look familiar? He starred a moment before taking the seat on the other side of the mantis girl. Hrm... Oh! Wait, yeah he remembered now Zyanya had told him about that kid right. Coby or something like that, he remembered only upon seeing the piercing in the bull's nose and recalled her mentioning.

Magic class? He was going to be taking a magic class? Why was it that the idea of her boy being able to wield magic scared the life out of Ellie more then anything else? She had led him here to make sure that he got here, left on his own he would end up in Durem before he made it to the classroom.

Valens was clip-clopping along quite excitedly, so he was gonna learn how to work magic? His parents had seemed to be excited over the idea as they had once done the same thing. His mother gave him a long list of things to caution him with everything from not wielding the power for selfish reasons, something that had prompted an odd, choked sound from his farther to not pushing himself over and burning himself and his power out.

The horse boy walked into the classroom and then looked over his shoulder when Ellie stopped at the door seeming to be content to wait outside for him while he did his learning, "I will see you after class." He said then went inside after giving her a smile.

He looked around only one person out of the three here so far that he knew and she was already being sat next to on both sides so he went and sat down in the desk on the other end putting one between himself and the snake, the snake just made his senses run high and made him want to stomp on it or run the other way, maybe that was his horse blood surfacing?

Val dug into his backpack to get out the things his parents had told him to bring, notebook and paper and then gave a wave to the teacher, "Hellos."

He was the last one to arrive, yet, the least to care about it. Keivlos didn't really care about anything, to say the least. Well, except for his new friend...that vicious creature he had left lying in wait, outside the door. Madeline had told Keivlos not to take Dimitri with him, but that was more or less an unspoken sin to the raven. Like it or not, Keivlos was going to take his dragon along with him...maybe not inside the class room, but still, at least it was awaiting for him after class.

It took just a few seconds to walk in to the class room and find a seat (there was only one left). The boy didn't make eye contact with any of the other students, nor did he care to glance at the teacher, he just quietly sat down. There was only one reason to be here and that was learn something useful. Of course, what Keivlos planned to do with this 'useful' knowledge he was to learn would be erm...a different (and probably more frightening) story.

Thomas remained seated until the clock's hand moved over the '12'. The second class was due to start, the door to the classroom slammed shut accompanied by the clicking of a lock somewhere. He slowly stood himself up, returning his pen to the top of his overly-tidy desk. Everyone was here and on time to boot. A first in the history of both his classes. Surprising, but he wouldn't let that small nugget of information go spoken out loud.

"Good morning." He addressed them all, stepping around his desk and over to the front of the classroom. "As some of you may already know, my name is Professor Barkhelm." He lifted a hand, a wedge of chalk lifted off from the board behind him and wrote, quite nicely, his name, the words "magic 101", and then tree words off to the right- each underlined and decorated with some kind of marking. "Mind", "Body", and "Soul".

"In this class you will take the first steps needed to understand, work with, and perhaps eventually command magic. Now the first and most important thing you all need to understand is that magic is not a toy. It's not something you use to impress anyone, it's not for fun. Magic is a part of who you are. Everyone is capable of it, everyone is effected by it in some way. However, few can understand it enough to use it to it's full potential." He slowly glanced around the room, letting that set in a bit, "I am only required to teach you your first spell. From then it's up to you if you wish to return and learn how to further hone your abilities. I would greatly recommend that each of you do so though... you are under no obligation to do so and I am not at liberty to force you into such a thing."

He continued, standing perfectly straight in front of his desk. A small silver dragon fluttered up to land on his shoulder, eyes glancing to each of the actual dragons gathered. "All forms of magic can be classified into three basic foundations. The magic of the mind, the magic of the body, and the magic of the soul. Every living individual has an affinity to one of the three. This is determined by what drives you, what motivates you, what inspires you. It's as much of who you are as your favorite color or what season you prefer. It can sometimes dominate you. The more you acknowledge this, the more you can come to terms with who you are, and the greater understanding you will have of what you're capable of. It is possible for an individual to master arts from all three foundations, those individuals are marked as archmages."

"Are there any questions so far?"

Zyan perked up as Ter entered the classroom, excellent! She was going to learn with Ter! Her face lit up in a happy way when he spoke to her, she just nodded her head, resisting the urge to jump up and kiss him.

Then Valens entered the classroom, wow it had been a long time since she had seen him. She gave him a excited looking smile and offered a wave but remained silent as the final student came in.

Ohhhh but he was sure handsome. Dark feathers, grim expression...he looked like he would make an excellent recruit... Her mind was wondering. That was bad since now the teacher was speaking. Body? Mind? Soul? She hadn't really grasped the first part of the conversation. But gathered enough to put two and two together.

"How do we know which aspect we are?" She asked not bothering to raise her hand and also had half a mind just to think the question and see if he would still answer.

Wow... this guy sounded a lot like his father Ter thought to himself, recalling how many times he'd been giving similiar responsibility lectures from the red head, normally that just got him that much more interested in what he was told not to do. Ter shifted his coils leaning forward as if to get a better look at the symbols next to the three words written on the board.

He listened closely to what the teacher was saying about the different form of magics and idly wondered which one he had. Z had already asked the question of how such a thing was determined all he had to do was wait for the answer to her question and to know how it was decided.

"What sort of spells are we going to learn?" Ter asked, wondering if it were this teacher or the other woman magic teacher who'd shown Ligeia how to do that ice magic of his.

Valens relaxed quite a bit when the darkly colored bird appeared to sit between him and the snake, it felt like there was no a sheild there between the two of them. He was able to concentrate then, scratching down the notes and the pictures in his horribly handwriting that still contained all backwards 'Es' though he didn't notice it.

He tried to get things word for word though ended up just focusing on making sure to get the things that were the most important written down, he then looked at the other students off to the side of him and listened to what the two were asking already. They seemed to take the questions that came to his mind first so he had to think harder, one thing came to mind, "Are you one of those 'archmages' you mentioned?" He asked, curiously.

Thomas glanced over to Zyan first, his piercing yellow eyes catching hers sharply. For the moment, she'd feel as if looking away from those eyes was the worst idea that could come to mind. "I will go around the room and reveal unto each of you which aspect you are most suitable for. It's a simple enough process though I will warn each of you now that many students are intimidated by it. I even had one student refuse to return to class after such an experience." He slowly glanced around the room, "Magic is not for the weak of heart, body, or mind. Cowards will never master their ability."

Next question was pretty typical as well, one he'd expected to be the first but it was just as well. "Depending on the base element you belong to will determine what kind of spell will be your first. I'll demonstrate some basic spells from each of the categories."

He stood forward, pointing to his desk. The feather-quill that had been resting by his lesson plans lifted up and began to spin through the air. "This is magic of the mind. In order to accomplish levitation of even light objects you must understand gravity, have a basic understanding of how much an object weighs and thus how much gravity in accordance to its weight to repel. Moving things like paper, feathers, and chalk bits are basic. They weigh next to nothing. However, if developed you can lift things like a desk, yourself, and eventually things as heavy as boulders." He let the feather settle to the desk, "Many refer to those that study the magic of the mind as Alchamests. They must understand that for every action there is a reaction, they must understand how something can work before they can manipulate it further. That sort of thing. Mind magic can branch off into fields such as potion making and telepathy as well."

Next he moved over to Cody's desk, reaching down and lifting both the desk and the child up in the air over his head with what seemed like little to no effort. "This is magic of the body." Cody, absolutely stunned, now seemed to be paying very close attention, "It's simple enough to explain. Pretty much you will be learning how to enhance abilities that you already have. Speed, strength, stamina. You focus your power into one physical aspect of yourself, enhancing it as far as your energy will allow. Feats like this take a bit more working with." He set the desk down, "But now our classroom skeptic seems to be paying attention." He smirked and moved back to the middle of the room.

"Finally, magic of the soul is commonly associated best with elemental magic." He lifted his staff up, a fireball exploded from seemingly no where and blazed, moving in a small circle around the tip of the staff. "To every student of the soul magic, there is an element he or she is closely aligned to. It's possible to master all the elements over time and through vigorous study." The fireball disappeared once more and Thom calmly set the staff back down at his side.

The last question actually caught Thomas off guard. His eyes widened a bit and for a moment the teacher almost looked pained. He cleared his throat, making his way over to the first desk where Cody sat. "...that's none of your concern nor will it ever be."

He placed both hands on the side of the bull boy's desk, locking eyes with him. Cody, who had almost started snickering at the Teacher's stunned look, instantly sat up and began to sweat, looking horribly uncomfortable in his chair. The teacher and the bull starred for only a few seconds though to Cody it would seem like an eternity.

"You, Cody Tayburd, are about as sharp as a rotten log and about as deep as a thimble... crude, disrespectful, and arrogant. If you continue to behave this way I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if you lost your other eye and became a dish for someone right in between the mashed potatoes and peas. However...your heart is in the right place more often than not." He stood himself up. "Your magic is that of the body."

Cody had indeed been pretty bored by the lecture already. He took to daydreaming or glancing over to Zyan in favor of actually paying attention. She was growing up quite nicely... though he couldn't shake the image of her topless out of his head. Unfortunately for him, soon as his mind started going south his entire desk and body were thrown northward, held just above the teacher's desk.

"TOOTIN' TARNATION!" He called out, gripping onto the surface of his desk. Tex only watched from the ground, snickering in amusement. He hissed a few curses under his breath as he was settled back to the ground, folding his arms across his chest. Though the trick did amuse him- he could become stronger than he'd originally thought. To lift things that heavy over his head- he'd get those guys back for sure. Not to mention impress the ladies.

Once more his thoughts were disrupted by the teacher. All the sudden his vision was almost tunneled into Thom's dangerous yellow eyes. There was no where to run, no secrets he could hide, everything was right there out in the open. He started to sweat, leaning back stiffly in his chair but to no avail. It seemed like hours before Thomas stood back, though somehow Cody could still feel the teacher in the back of his mind.

Body magic? Well he could have told anyone that... and in a less insulting fashion to boot. "Hmph..." He glanced away, grinding his teeth. Why'd he have to go and embarass him like that?

Zyan on instinct had frozen on the spot as Thomas's peircing gaze landed on her. There was something very dangerous in that gaze, she did recal her brother mentioning that Thomas could read minds...she quickly shoo'd the thoughts of her thinking Mr. Barkhelm was good looking hoping he didn't read that. Her large eyes were locked with Thomas's she felt a sensation of falling into thos golden depths before he returned his gaze back to the rest of the class.

Uncomfertable and nervous she shifted in her seat, caught Cody looking at her and flashed him a charming smile. She tried not to dwell on that feeling Thomas's had given her.

She jotted down some quick notes, body , mind, soul....she hoped she could be body...but didn't want to be dissapointed if he wasn't, she was just amazed at all the things the teacher could do. Levitation! that would be so cool...the elemental looked neat too...but body just ..well to say rocked. She watched as Cody was the first to be...interrigated? No not the right word...mind read? She couldn't help but stare at the teacher and him a little bit of worry spread on her face. She looked over to Valens and Ter, giving Ter a blown kiss and Valens another smile, before looking over the Raven boy in a calculating sort of way before returning her gaze back tot he teacher. She felt more at peace now that she had distracted herself for a bit. And as much as she wanted to know the kind of magic she could do, she also dreaded and yet welcomed gazing back into those golden eyes.

Thomas smirked, perhaps he got a bit of a sick pleasure from the shock that the students got from establishing the 'thread' of mental connection between himself and them, but it allowed him to keep a mind's eye on their thoughts at all time, address any distractions at the time of occurrence, and answer any questions before the student had to ask them.

He made his way over to Zyan's desk, noting her obvious discomfort as he neared her. "Zyanya...", He leaned close and all the sudden there was nothing in the world other than Thomas' golden eyes, horrible things but Zyan would find it nearly impossible to look away. Almost as if she was stuck in a mental tunnel with her on one end and the eyes on the other. There were no secrets all the sudden, every thought she had or ever had was his to see, she'd feel completely exposed in every way.

"Hmm...a little tomboy. Intent on proving that you're just as tough as any of the guys you like to hang around... and a bit of a tease. Kind of a flake when it comes to matters of the heart." He chuckled a bit, "And it seems looking to older men isn't beyond you either..." He stood back though Zyan would somehow feel his presence in the back of her mind still, "Another student attuned to the magic of the body... while you are clever you lack the wisdom to pursue the mental arts and your spirit is a wavering one."
