Simply put, scrying is using a medium, and finding and interpreting symbols.
Traditionally, scrying is seen as a psychic gazing into her crystal ball, and it shows her exactly what has been, is, or will be.
I have two points on this.
One, is that scrying does not necessarily show you directly how things are. For example, instead of seeing your family taking a dog home from the human society, you may see a collar and tags.
Two, is that crystal balls are not the only mediums that can be used. A medium in this case, is something used to help you focus and to guide you to things you want answers to. Crystal, quartz, amethyst, and obsidian are common stones used for scrying balls, but they can be pricey. With creativity, one can use nearly anything as a medium. A particular favorite of mine is cloth. A good-sized cloth, such as a towel or scarf can be used.
One must become relaxed, while having a question or situation fixed in the mind. Toss the cloth. When it has settled, search the wrinkles and shadows it casts for images.
The assignment is to find a medium, and have a go at scrying. Were the images physical, like the shadows and winkles in the cloth, or were they like projected images onto a gazing ball? Report back with which medium you used, what images did you see, how did you interpret them, or whatever you're comfortable with.

I did that many many years ago. I was watching the moving shadows in the woods behind my house at night trying to see any type of sign. After an hour of slow meditation I started seeing a few symbols here and there. I got a few reading for future use was feeling pretty good for a while(still have them writen down and using them). The moon can lay some real funny tricks on your vision... till the optical illusion comes out and touches you. I'd rather not discuss what exactly happened after that. But suffice it to say, I don't go around horses anymore.
I learned three things that long winter night.
1: When done properly, scrying visions can really help you get a focus on your life.
2: Don't go out into my woods at night. There is something very angry at people dwelling there.
3: Be careful in what you are trying to do. The outcome might not exactly be what you are serching for.

Julien_Isfange 1: When done properly, scrying visions can really help you get a focus on your life. That's what I like about divination because it's all about helping you with your life. I'm going to keep this lesson up for two weeks and let people answer. Send results as many times as you want; this will really strengthen your skill with some critique, finding out what you need work on and what you shouldn't change.

I just finished scrying.
Medium: 3x4 foot thick cloth, no pattern, forest green on one side, dark navy on the other.
Situation: I'm trying to get more muscle on me, so I've set some goals for two weeks from now. I'd like to know if I will reach those goals.
When the cloth fell, only the navy side showed. I stood where I dropped it from, but couldn't find anything. After two or three minutes, I sat down, and saw almost immediately small crevasse. It looked like a doorway, and there was a small strip of the gree cloth visible that was the 'door.' This door was open.
Interpretation: I take it that because there was an open door, there's oppertunity for me to accomplish my goals. Since I had to sit down to find it though, I should use a different method of trying to reach the goals.

Ok I am going to post this instead of PMing you as other people may be thinking the same thing (I HOPE!!!)
Anyway I am so confused about the difference in Divination and Scruying, Cant you use a crystal ball for both things??

Medium Used- Crystal Ball The Images were projected I saw: ~Sparkles- possibly snow ~Yin-Yang Symbol ~ Something Black ~Flames I think it meant that there's going to be Drastic changes in the weather, or something to do with it, possibly a storm since it's been really calm where I live. And this is just a guess, but it might happen at night But then again, I'm pretty new at this sweatdrop
