A soft moan escaped the maw of the white lioness as she shifted her body in an attempt stay asleep. For once since she had fled the oasis had she had a good dream but unfortunately for her it began to warp into a hellish nightmare. She began to toss feverishly around in the sand beneath her and she lash out and an invisible attacker with her paw, claws extended.
"Leave me be!" She cried flinching in her sleep lashing out one more time before rolling over onto her paws.
Her eyes fluttered open and sweat clung to her fur matting it down against her skin. Her breathing was harsh and shallow and her brow was furrowed with fear. "No haven..." She mumbled softly to herself before she settled back down onto her belly trying to recall what had been said the night before. However she was unable to remember anything from the past night, only hurtful words that she had said and the pain upon K'Anatak's features.
K'Anatak! She had almost forgotten about him and was immediately on her paws again turning around, her heart pounding in fear that he had left her.

K'Anatak at that moment was sitting up, behind her, eyes still open. He refused to let his eyes shut, he wanted to watch her sleep, make sure she was alright. His features showed that he was tired, though his black eyes held away the fact that he was exhausted as well. His wings were drooped behind him, tips of his feathers grazing upon the sand, his back hunched forward a bit, mane mussed, but he would watch her, he'd watch her and try to keep her as safe as he could.
He watched her toss and turn, lash out at something, someone in her dreams, her nightmares, and he felt pain in his heart of emotion, his friend was in turmoil, and he wasn't sure what he could do to help, besides stay with her for a time.
But then...what about Momo?
His heart dropped again, he wasn't sure what to do. Surely his father would be ashamed of how he was acting now. His brother would laugh at him harshly...but Momo, would she be proud he stayed with a friend, or hate him for not going to her sooner? Such turmoil in his own heart. "Its alright, I'm still here..."

At the sound of her friends voice her whole body relaxed. There was nothing for her to worry about, he wouldn't abandon her like her mother or Nyekundu had. Malika could trust K'Anatak she knew that, yet why did her heart feel so heavy? She just couldn't understand it. Not until she looked up at her friend's face.
He was in pain. It was obvious, she was keeping him from something that was important to him. She suddenly felt so selfish keeping him there with her. "I'm sorry." She stated lowering her head and flattening her ears against her skull. "I'm forcing my problems upon you. I'm causing you pain...and...a friend should never cause another friend pain." She looked up at him and forced a smile upon her maw. "Can you forgive me?"

K'Anatak offered her a tired smile, not tired from her company or situation, tired from just..being tired, lack of sleep sort of thing. "Whats there to forgive and be sorry for Malaika? You are my friend, no need to be sorry, no need at all, I just want you to be alright...your my friend," he said with a nod, a smile, a flick of his tail. "Anything that has happened from yesterday until now is because your a friend, and I care about your well being, nothing is to be forgiven Malaika, as a friend I am here to help you."
He was, he did want her to be alright.
"Tell me then, if you can...what is it that troubles you, make you believe yourself forever lost, which you aren't I must say..."

"I'm sorry because it's obvious that I've caused you some sort of pain....I..." Malika paused unsure of what she was trying to say exactly. "I don't really remember what was said yesterday....I just know that I said some nasty things to you....things that I...." She took a shaky breath. "Things that I regret...." She managed to finally spit out before she listened to the rest of what her friend had to say. "Thank you...." She mumbled softly lowering her head to look at the sand beneath her.
When K'Anatak asked her to explain what troubled her she felt her heart skip a beat. It was a subject she had avoided for so long, something that she hated to talk about. One that kept her moving, going, running. "I've always been lost, even when I thought I wasn't it turned out that I was....." She paused struggling with her words. "There were so many signs that the place I believe to be the one place where I would truly be happy was nothing more than a hell hole...."

"Its alright," he said again, voice soft, soothing, trying to calm her, make her feel at ease, she seemed so troubled, and that was not good at all. "Many times in one's life, appearances and feelings can be deceiving, where you might believe you are safe and happy, it is no such thing, you just have to keep moving on, to try and find that one place where you can feel at home, where you can feel safe," he said with a smile, black eyes watching her.
He wished he could find that place, wished he could find Momo...
Though that seemed so far out of reach, how long had it been already?
"If you believe you are lost, then perhaps at this moment you may be, though know that one day you won't, and you'll finally be home," he said nodding, his white mane falling into his view.
He hoped she could understand, no one would be lost forever.

The pale lioness had remained completely silent when he spoke, she barely even breathed. His words stung because they were true and the truth hurt. Like so many times before. Her violet eyes traced one of her paw prints in the loose sand over and over and over again.
"How can I ever be sure?" Malika asked without really thinking, she had mean to agree with him, to say that he was right, because a part of her knew he was but another part....well it wanted to argue. It wanted to say that she WOULD always be lost and would NEVER be found in any way, shape or form. "It's just that...well....ah...." She couldn't even find the words to express her feelings. It was difficult.

"Malika, listen," K'anatak said sincerely, having his black eyes fall upon her form. She was a gentle and sweet lioness, if she felt like this, she would be consumed by it if she did not try to break free from it, someone would set her free, he knew it.
"How do you know you will remain lost, or my words are true? Proof, I neither of us have proof the other is right or wrong however," he took a step forward let his wing fall under her chin, lift it up so she'd look at him, let his words sink in, "Prove yourself wrong, prove everything wrong that you think is holding you back..you won't be lost forever Malika, someone will be able to help you find that place that will make you smile."

Malika swallowed dryly, her tongue flicking out to lick her lips as she searched for the words to reply. He had a point, she knew he did but she couldn't but help feel the way she did. What if she found happiness once more only to find that it was just a sham as her previous 'happiness' had been.
Her tongue rolled over her teeth as she thought the matter over in silence. Her violet eyes searched her friends face for the answers since she had no where else to really look. Eventually she cast her gaze up into the sky momentarily before closing her eyes and inhaling deeply.
"I shall try....but..." She whispered finally opening her eyes and looking back at the large male. "There is always a chance of being lost."

K'Anatak wished for Malika to be happy, where could she go where she would be welcomed, where it would be safe, where someone might find her, where? Pondering internally, he stood, finding an answer, though it meant leaving soon after giving where. He listened to her soft words, and extended a wing out to raise her view to his, "Malika, you are my friend, there is always a chance of being lost, but there is an eqal chance, of being found."
He then pulled his wing away, stepped back and pointed with his paw, "Travel that way Malika, to a pride where a great stone arch is within its borders, trust me," was all he could leave her with, he gave her one last look of goodbye and tore up into the sky, he prayed she would not be angry, but would take his advice, and travel the right path.
She'd be found someday, he was sure.

The white and green marked female said nothing to the large white male as her light colored eyes met his dark ones. She wanted so much to believe in his words but she just couldn't. After being lost for so long how could she really be found?
She turned her head in the direction he pointed, his form vanishing from her line of view as he took the chance to escape up into the sky. At the sound of his flapping wings she snapped her head back toward him.
At first his sudden departure brought anger to her but it quickly faded. He had done all that he needed and there was probably someone that needed him right now much more that she did. "Goodbye and thank you." She whispered to his fleeting form before turning and heading off into the direction he pointed her in.
