She wasn't suppose to go too far from her parents cove but it got boring wandering around the same place all the time. So with her parents not paying attention she'd wandered off to go find something to do for the day. She could get scolded when she was back but it would be after she'd already had fun. Seemed like the better of the two ideas.
She'd trotted away from the beach into a small grassy area and decided to huff and puff at her wings. Papa could fly around but for some reason hers wouldn't work like that. All she could manage was a few inches off the ground for a few seconds. It wasn't fair but she'd find a way to make it work eventually.
Turning her head she nosed at the blue and pink feathers trying to make them agree to work. She knew if she tried hard enough she'd figure it out eventually.

One thing that Liani had in common with the filly, at least at the moment, was that they were both flightless. However, UNlike the filly, who at least had wings, Liani merely had the illusion of wings, dark against the red of the rest of her coat. Why she had them, she didn't know; either way, they were a lot less useful than the real deal.
Well, the WORKING real deal. Ambling along in her somewhat indirect way, Liani had come upon the filly almost by accident. Watching as the dark blue filly filly nudged her wings, Liani was struck by both amusement and curiousity. What was she doing?
Never let it be said that she was timid. After watching for a few more minutes, she called out to the filly, "does talking to them get them to work for you?"

She'd been perfectly happy in her own little world and jumped slightly when she heard a voice. "It's mean to sneak up on people!" She chided the small red mare as she fluffed up slightly.
Her nose wrinkled as she noticed something. The red one didn't look like her, she wasn't as lanky, but she was still small. That meant something new and that meant she had to as as many questions as she could. Never leave an opportunity without getting something out of it.
"Who are you, why are you small like me but not like me, and no it doesn't work talking to them."

Chatty little thing, wasn't she? Chuckling slightly, Liani stolled over to the filly, her throaty voice making the chuckle seem louder than it actually was. As she did so, she noticed the look the filly gave her; unless Li missed her guess, this kid wasn't used to Usdias.
"If you'd been paying attention to something besides your wings, you'd have noticed me a mile away, sugar; it's hard to blend in when you're bright red, after all. And I'm small but different because I'm an Usdia, not a Soquili, and as for who I am...it's nice to introduce yourself when asking the same of others; common courtesy, and all that."
Winking at the filly, Liani glanced around the clearing as though looking for something, in this case a parent. Seeing none, she looked back at the filly with curiousity. "Are you alone? You seem pretty young to be off by yourself."

"Usdia?" She'd never heard of one of those before. Must have been something Mom or Papa hadn't bothered to think she and her sisters needed to know. She'd bug them about it later oh yes.
"I was going to get to that after you answered me, which you haven't yet you know." Her wings fluffed slightly as she waggled one at the red mare. "I know how to get back home and nothing's going to eat me. The nasty things don't like the salt in the air." Or something, either way Mon said that the nasty ones didn't usually come out this far.

"Ah, but you never said that, did you sugar? Nope, all you did was demand my name, and I had no way of knowing you had any exchange in mind." This with a sage nod at the filly, though Liani was far from serious. Smart kid, if a bit forward. "But I'm Liani, and yes, Usdia. We're like Soquili, I suppose, only smaller. I'm probably the same age as your parents, believe it or not."
Considering that she was a mature adult, that was probably right. Granted, this filly could be the product of one of those touted 'mature' relationships between older Soqs...but she'd err on the side of caution. Which this filly hadn't seemed to do in the running off.
"Unless you've got a sea-faring nasty. There are some good ones that don't like the salt, and there are some nasties that DO like the salt. It's all about perspective, sugar."

"I guess that means i should be nice and give you my name too right?" She grinned slightly. "Van'Liasha ... Mom just calls me Van though." It was easier to say so she really only got called her whole name when she was in trouble.
"My per-perspective says that i'll be fine as long as he pay attention." She huffed and a moment later reached up with one wing to rub at her ear. "Which i seem to be failing at since you snuck up on me."

Interesting name; at the moment, it was about as big as the filly herself! Still, Liani didn't do much more than chuckle, especially as the uniquely patterned filly continued talking. "Van it is, Sugar, and I'd say that you're right on the mark about your perspective. I'm hardly a stealthy thing, after all, and no one in their right mind could accuse me of blending in, so..."
Shrugging her shoulders, the red mare strolled past the filly to look off in the direction of the coast, her dark tail flicking idly. There wasn't much to see off that way...but it smelled nice. Looking back, she quirked a brow at the filly again. "So, Van, you see many others in these parts?"

She shook her head and waved a wing in the direction of home. "Just Mom and Papa and my sisters"
Mom said that most of the Soquili didn't come out this far. They liked the harder sands of the plains than the soft shifting ones of the beach. Even Papa didn't like it all that much but he put up with it for Mom.
"I like it though. Means that i can run around without too much worry."
