Long legs stretched out as the spotted stallion made his way around the area he called home. Apple searched for shade wherever he could find it. The only bad thing about the summer time was the uncomfortable heat that all the animals had to suffer through, since their coats kept them warm. The stallion was still shedding his winter coat, even though he had been shedding throughout the whole spring time.
Now that he had found shade, Apple quickly took advantage of it and trotted under the tree and flopped down on the ground. A river nearby calmed the stallion's nerves by its sound of flowing water. The apple rumped stallion sighed softly as he layed his head down to maybe take a nap since the heat was taking most of his energy.

Her normally graceful movements seemed almost sluggish as the unicorn clumsily made her way closer to the blissful sounds of the river, the promise of cold, sweet water only encouraging her to keep moving. Feryal, as of yet, wasn't accustomed to the heat so far, her thick coat doing wonders to keep her warm within the icy mountains, but only hindering her progress here through these lands. She was too tired to toss her blonde mane out of her face, silky strands wrapping around her horn while she continued to droop from the heat. Goodness, this was awful. The saddle on her back and the chains around her neck only made her feel twice as heavy. The river couldn't have come sooner.
Gratefully, she drank as much as she could without making herself ill, feeling life return to her heat-wearied body as the cold water did wonders to cool her. Desperate to get out of the heat, Feryal slipped quickly to whatever shade she could find--starting slightly when she realized someone was already there. "My apologies." The unicorn dipped her head hastily, chains jingling sharply as she backed up--but found she couldn't bear to put herself back in the heat. "It's so hot. Do you mind if I rest for a while?" She found herself asking, ears tipping back. She hadn't meant to cause such a disturbance...

The sound of another around made the large bulky stallion quickly stand up. Not knowing who it may be, he didn't want to take any chances. Apple's ears pricked forward as he listened to the sound of the other drinking from the river. Whenever he noticed the mare trying to find some shade to cool herself off in, he bowed his heads in greetings.
Apple took a few steps away from the middle of the shade so that there was enough room for the mare and himself. "No need to apologize." he said nodding his head at her words. "Yes, it is very hot out there. You can rest for as long as you wish ma'am." The stallion said keeping his ears pricked towards the unicorn mare. Apple couldn't help himself but pant a little under the heat of the day. He quickly walked over to the small river and dipped his head to take a sip of the cool water.

Though she'd yet to meet anyone who would have been ill-tempered enough to deny her a moment's reprieve, a grateful expression flashed across her face for a moment, and Feryal dipped her head forward again. "Thank you." The mare said tiredly, resisting the urge to fold her legs under her and simply sit for a while, meekly picking her way back into the shade. "It's very kind of you."
Her frosted gaze fixed itself on him quietly, watching as he moved to drink from the river that she'd been at only moments ago. "...I'm not used to such heat." Her tone was tinged with reluctance, as though disappointed that she was defeated so easily by something as silly as the sun. Feryal shook her head lightly, uncomfortable with the feel of her mane clinging to her skin. "I am Feryal." The unicorn introduced herself after a moment of thinking, then questioned almost desperately, "Is it always this hot in these lands?"

Noticing how well the water felt, the stallion dipped his whole muzzle in it. "You know what would feel good," He said to the mare before he stepped in the water and folded his legs under himself. Whenever he felt the cool water on his stomach, Apple rolled onto his side and layed flat letting the current of the water flow around him. Apple sighed softly at the wonderful feeling.
He didn't care if he looked stupid, the water felt great and it cooled him down. Whenever the mare introduced herself, he picked up his head and smiled. "I am Apple-oosa." The stallion said laying his head back down and trying to roll over on his other side. Whenever he was there, he lifted his head again. "Usually it isn't this hot. Its very surprising that it actually is this hot." The stallion reasured the mare.

Feryal stood quietly for a moment, openly peering at what the stallion was doing, frosted eyes fixed and her ears twitching from time to time. Oh...he'd completely laid himself down in the stream. And despite herself, the mare wondered if it would actually help. The chains around her neck were given a reluctant tug, and the unicorn wasn't sure how well her saddle would hold up in the river. Moving quietly, back into the cursed heat, Feryal gingerly stepped into the river herself, a soft sound of relief stirring somewhere in her chest. Oh, yes, that did feel rather nice...
"A pleasure." The mare said absently--realizing almost instantly that his name most likely had something to do with the marks on his sides and neck. Like an apple tree? How apt. "One can only hope." Feryal shook her head wearily, feeling the ends of her tail swirl pleasantly in the slow-moving river. "This sort of heat makes me long for the mountains again..."

The stallion watched as the mare walked into the river. As she did, he quickly stood up and flicked his head a little so that his sticky mane would let go of his neck. As he stood up watching the mare, the ends of this tail floated on the top of the moving water. Apple shook a little so that the loose water would fall off of him and back into the river.
"The pleasure is all mine." He said trying to sound polite to the mare. The stallion looked at the stuff that was on her back with a bit of curiosity. "What is all the stuff on you used for?" He asked as his ears pricked at the sound of the pieces of metal that were hanging from her mouth tapped each other and made a soft jingling noise. When she spoke of the mountain, he listened intently. "What are the mountains like?" Apple asked whenever she finished speaking.

When Apple-oosa rose, water riveting off his body in thick sheets, Feryal found herself offering a quiet half-smile at him, amused. He'd been very kind to her so far, and she appreciated the idle conversation. His words had her dip her head once more, the key attached to one of her chains all but flaring in the sun. "These?" Feryal inquired, blinking slightly as she glanced back at herself. "For decoration mostly, I suppose. Two-leggers can ride more comfortably if they're lost in the icy forests of the mountain until I can guide them back out." She couldn't remember where she'd gotten the strange pieces--as far as she knew, she'd always had them. "I can't recall where I received them." Came the apologetic response.
The mention of the mountains seemed to transform the delicate mare, her ears pricking and those icy eyes seeming to brighten with delight. "Breathtaking." She said simply. "The sun is beautiful from there, but it doesn't bring any of the awful heat with it. And when the snow falls...the entire mountain seems alive and magical. It's crisp and pleasant to be outside, and it's so very quiet..." The mare trailed off quietly, surprised to find that she was a bit lonesome for the place she knew and loved.

He kept his head high, but not as to over tower the mare. When the mare spoke, the stallion found himself lost in her soothing voice. It had been a very long time since he had met another soquili. The mare's blue eyes seemed to highlight the blue coloring of her saddle. "They look very nice on you." Apple said trying not to sound too nice, but not rude in anyway. "So you help two leggers that get lost in the mountains?" The stallion asked interested in what she was talking about. He smiled at the key that was attached to her bridle. "Does that key go to the thing on your ankle?" He asked nodding his head down to the mare's ankle which had a lock looking thing around it.
"They sound great." Apple said trying to picture the snow and the sun never getting too hot out. "If you don't mind me asking, why don't you live in the mountains if you love them so much?" The stallion asked, he would love to one day visit this place since she made it sound so amazing. Quiet? The stallion nodded his head. "I'm sure the quiet is nice, but maybe a little bit lonely?" He sort of asked while still imagining what the mare was talking about.

Frosty eyes blinked faintly in surprise at the compliment before Feryal chuckled softly, modestly dropping her head to accept it. "Thank you. I'm rather fond of them. And yes, I do, but rarely. Two-leggers are such curious things...they're often quite good at getting themselves out of bad situations. But sometimes, when they get too cold, they confuse themselves." She said absently, her gaze trailing elsewhere until he brought her back to the present. "...I imagine it might." Feryal looked as though she'd never thought of it before, idly lipping at the key that was dangling before glancing to the garment clamped around her hoof. "I've never tried before, however."
Her tail whisked itself quietly as the mare mused, nodding. "I needed to see the rest of the world. It's a vast sort of silence that exists in the mountains...and yes, it becomes quite lonely. That was why I left. I suppose I was curious about what existed outside of a winter wonderland." Feryal shook her head some, fond of such silly memories. "I'm glad that I did so, even if it is so very hot...and what about you? Have you lived here all your life?"

The stallion smiled at the mare and nodded his head as a way of saying 'your welcome.' "Thats interesting, so you don't ever get cold up there yourself?" What a stupid question, of course she never got cold she has a saddle to keep her warm plus a thick coat. Whenever she spoke again, his ears pricked and he nodded his head. "It looks as though it would." Apple said with a soft nod. The cool water around his ankles helped him stay a little cooler than before. The stallion sighed softly at the cool feeling of the slowly moving water.
"The rest of the world is a very good place." He said with a small nod of his head as he agreed with the mare. Whenever she asked him a question, he thought a little bit. "Well, I know I didn't live here all my life, but I have lived here so long I don't even remember my old home." Apple said slightly flushed that he didn't really remember.

"No, not usually." The unicorn didn't seem to think it was a stupid question at all, pricking her ears happily. "Though, occasionally, if you happen to wander underneath a tree and it dumps all the snow from its branches on you...It tends to get rather wet. And cold." Her eyes flickered back down to the lock around her hoof, studying it thoroughly now, as though wondering why she'd never considered it before. Despite herself, she still had no inclination to take it off, and abandoned her interest in it after a moment.
"Oh? Well, no matter." Feryal didn't seemed bothered, shaking her head. "It's as good as." The shade was very soothing, cooling her somewhat, if not entirely so far. "I've heard...There are Kalona, in the area?" She sounded a bit uncertain, as though debating whether or not she should bring up such a morbid subject. "Do they...cause trouble often?"

He nodded his head at what the mare was talking about. It was very interesting to him. So far he had never met one that had a saddle on their back and such crazy looking things on them. Of course, he was one to talk with huge apple markings on his rump and a vine looking marking going up his neck. Apple turned his head and nipped at the flower on his side which was being tickled by water. "Hm, well if I ever visit the place you are from, I will be sure to stay away from under the trees." He said with a soft nod as if agreeing with himself.
"Kalonas? I haven't ever met one, but I'm sure there are some around here. I have heard of them, but never met one." He said thinking about where he first heard about the kalonas... probably from his sister. "No, not often... I don't think so anyways." Apple answered with a small shrug of his shoulders.

The stallion's actions drew her attention to the strange markings stretched out across his flanks. Apples--that'd explain his name, now wouldn't it? Clever. Another smile flickered across her muzzle as she nodded quietly in agreement, chuckling to herself. "That would be wise. They are beautiful, though." A slightly wistful expression had entered her gaze as she glanced away, whisking her tail in thought. Perhaps she'd return to the mountains soon, at least to wait out this stifling heat.
Her ears pricked softly to catch his words and some of the tension faded from her stance. "That's a fortunate thing indeed. I'd hate to think you'd met one of them, but... I'm certain they can't be all bad." The last bit seemed to be a bit of musing towards herself, as though attempting to convince herself of the prejudice of Kalona that had been instilled throughout their kind. They were, after all, natural opposites.

When a smile flickered on her muzzle he smiled a little himself. It slowly faded though and his ears flicked forwards to listen to the mare's words. "I'm sure they are if they look anything like the one on you." His head nodded towards the white covered tree on her leg. Apple's eyes looked around at the trees and things. A warm breeze began to pick up and Apple enjoyed it while he could.
"I'm sure not all are bad. They just have a bad reputation. Like there aren't all good unicorns." He said with a slight nod of his head. So far he hadn't met any unfriendly soquilis, which was a fortunate thing. "If I haven't had a run into one, I'm sure you'll be lucky enough not to either... and if you do it'll probably only be once in your lifetime." Apple said with a nod. He hoped this mare wouldn't run into a mean one if she did happen to run into a kalona. He watched the mare for a moment and looked around, spotting some mountains. "Maybe you should walk back up there, since you aren't good with this weather." He used a leaf to bring more water to her then smiled softly. "I should probably go back to my teepee soon." He said softly. "I hope you feel better soon, miss." With that, he turned and began trotting towards his teepee. He would tell his two legger about the mare and see if she could help...
