{{Disclaimer: Thanks to Astral for the lovely artwork. <3 }} Name: Brayden Marcellus Gender: Male Age: 20 (Birthday: June 8th) Hometown: Fuchsia
Personality: Brayden's a pretty straightforward character, he always tries his hardest at things, which can end up in him messing up horribly. But he's honest, and has a good heart. He's friendly for the most part, but does have his moments in which he withdraws from others, although as to not cause any alarm, he usually ends up going somewhere by himself during these times.
Brayden has a passion for training Pokemon, it had always been something he was interested in. He prefers to give each Pokemon he catches a name, and tries to understand each one on a personal level. As such, he takes things a bit hard when he loses a match-up, even if he wins in the end, he feels bad for being the cause of having his Pokemon faint in battle, feeling it his responsibility for not helping them to become strong enough to win. As such, Brayden has made it his goal to never see his Pokemon faint in battle, and goes to great lengths to see this through.
His rather strange hair color is actually not dyed. His hair is naturally an ebony, however, due to the effects of Vaporeon DNA introduced into his bloodstream a while back, the blue has taken on its influence in his hairstyle. His hair used to be all blue, something that irked him to no end. However, after using the ability of Vaporeon to dissolve into a river to help locate an item for a friend, the two sets of DNA in his genes seemed to settle on a (happy?) medium.
All Brayden knows is that if he chops the blue off, it just comes back. D: So he's learned to deal with it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Friends of Brayden: ~Chloe Riven "We should get jerseys, 'cause we make a great team. But yours would look better than mine, 'cause your outta my league." Chloe was the first trainer ever that I met in my journey, and I've looked up to her strength ever since. A strong girl with plenty of skill, I'm sure she'll go far. Although I admire her, that doesn't stop me from picking on her a bit with Kaya. Its all in good fun, though. I count Chloe as one of my closest friends, and I enjoy hanging around the soon-to-be dragon master. It didn't take her long to earn my trust, and now I can easily say I'd trust her with my life. Not an easy statement by any means, but I mean it 100%.
~Kaya Ravyn "And I know that its so cliche to tell you that everyday that I spend with you is the new best day of my life." Man have things changed since we first met those years ago. I was at first completely oblivious to Kaya's true feelings towards me, counting him easily as one of my close friends. It took me a long while to realize that he liked me as more than a friend. I chalk that up to my own inexperience in the relationship department... You can't blame me, right?
It hasn't taken long since Kaya's confession that I've realized I've come to care for my prince very much. Honestly, I can't really see myself anywhere but alongside him now. I'm unsure what that will mean for our future, but I plan to face it head on.
~Train "Put a smile on your face, don't worry, it will soon pass. Whatever it is, don't worry, be happy!" Another trainer I met along with Chloe and Kaya in the events with Dialga, I consider her one of my good friends as well. The only other trainer I've seen with an Umbreon, I like to hang out with the younger girl. She's always cheerful, something I definitely respect. It takes a strong heart to stay smiling, even in the tough times we've seen together as a group.
~Nona Anthopes "I don't wanna change. I wanna know, I wanna do. I don't wanna wait, I wanna know, I wanna see." She's a trustworthy girl with a heart of gold, even if she does torment her Teddiursa with the idea of dress-up... I definitely consider her as one of my friends as well. I.. uh, well, I try to steer clear of her Ivysaur, though, since Dante doesn't seem too pleased with my relationship with Kaya. I'm still not entirely sure as to why, though. Nona in general is an awesome person to be around. She's definitely cheerful, and is easily able to turn a situation towards the better.
~Sasha "I went to the edge of town. Over bright highways where the traffic was the only sound around." A Nurse Joy in training, I met Sasha a short while ago. I don't know too much about her, but I have the feeling that hopefully we'll become friends.
~Julian "And how can the world want me to change, they’re the ones that stay the same." Another new acquaintance of mine. I met him recently on his way with the others to Sinnoh. I don't know too much about him either, but see that he has the makings of a great trainer. I'm eager to see how far Julian can go.
If you turn the pages back, you'll see my footprints heading down the track...
Well, hey, I'm Brayden Marcellus. I go by Brayden and Bray most oftentimes. You might have seen me lurking around. Then again, you may have not. Either way, seems you're interested in learning a tad bit more about me.
Well, I grew up in Fuchsia. I wasn't born there, of course. However, I'm not too sure on where exactly I was brought into this world. As far back as I remember, I was in Fuchsia. However, there is a small problem with my recollection.
There's a gap... somewhere. Well, I'm not sure how to explain how it is. Its kind of like I recall something from long ago, however, once my memories hit a certain point, there's a big blank. My memories pick up again like an old scratched CD years later.
The last memory I recall isn't a major one, so I'm curious as to why I remember it. Its a simple memory, from when I was much younger. I'm aboard a ship, watching the waves. Other than that, I recall seeing Wingull, so I suppose I was in Hoenn at the time. Other than that, that's all I recall, until I was about eight or nine, starting in Fuchsia. But there is the sinking feeling that something's missing...
Ah, whatever, you don't care about any of that junk, huh? Haha, I'm not here for a pity party or anything. In fact, I've never brought it up to even my closest of friends. I just don't want them to worry over nothing.
Well, anyway, I grew up in Fuchsia, fairly normal kid, I suppose. I was adopted by a local family there. My adoptive mom's name is Katrina Marcellus, and my dad's name is Kenneth Marcellus. Nice folk, your average middle class workers, and I love them with all my heart. No siblings, I'm an only child kid. But hey, I wasn't spoiled or anything. Nah, I grew up with great people, worked hard, and had a blast as a kid.
My parents own a small shop in Fuchsia, although you'll probably never visit there. Why bother when you've got the Poke'Mart, eh? But our shop is a bit special. And no, you'd probably never tell from the outside, or the inside for that matter. Its your average shop, inside and out. Knickknacks, and the like are for sale. Its just a sentimental value, I guess. It was my second favorite place to hang out as a kid, even if I was conned into heavy lifting by the bribe of an ice cream cone afterward.
Probably wondering where my first favorite place to hang out as a kid was, huh? No? Well, I'll tell you anyway.
Two words. Safari Zone.
I goofed off in the Safari Zone, got in my share of scraps with the Pokemon there, and grew to admire Pokemon in general. Mostly because they could always seem to kick my butt if they got irritated with me in their turf. Which thankfully wasn't all that often. For the most part, they seemed to tolerate me. I even saw a couple of Dratini once, after a whole week of sitting by that darn lake. Haha, I think they had pity on me, and decided to come out briefly, just to give an ignorant kid something to brag about for a bit.
That's what got me into Pokemon, mainly. I'd use to watch trainers catching the Pokemon in the Zone, and in turn, the Pokemon taunting them, eating up the bait, then bolting, to snicker in the bushes while the trainer looked baffled.
Many years later, I decided to set out on my own Pokemon journey. With well-wishes from my family, and a half-serious death threat if I don't return and visit once I got strong, I set out with a couple hundred Pokedollars (my small fortune I had amassed doing odd jobs around town), my backpack, and a hop in my step. It took some finagling, but I managed to hitchhike to Celadon, where I took the train to Johto, and headed towards my start as a trainer.
My first Pokemon was a lazy Totodile who preferred riding on my shoulder than walking. Cye was, and still is, a loyal companion of mine. He's helped me through many tough spots, and we've both grown a bit since our time together first started (his growth might be a bit more noticeable than mine, he's a full-grown Feraligatr now).
My team's grown a bit since then, but I always try to stick close to my party. After all, its the trust between trainer and Pokemon that's the most important. Whether you're in a battle, or in daily life.
Family:
 Katrina & Kenneth Marcellus My adopted folks. Seriously, they found me and took me in after I appeared in Fuchsia one day as a kid. They've stuck with me ever since.
The two own a small shop in Fuchsia. They've happily owned it since before I came around. It doesn't make much money (even less so once the PokeMart came to be), but its enough for them to live off of. And it keeps them happy. Which, to me at least, is worth more than being a millionaire and having a job that makes you miserable...
Katrina's more of the nurturing type. She's always been there for me to lend a willing ear. She's an awesome cook, something I still haven't managed to learn from her yet. She used to work in the restaurant in Celadon. That's where her and dad met, from what I hear. They moved to Fucshia after they got married.
While Kenneth may seem like the gruff type, he does have a soft heard beneath all those thorns. He has a love for Katrina, sports, the shop, and me. In that order, I believe. Nah, just foolin' with ya. He's really a nice guy. But he can be strict. We clashed a lot when I was a kid.
I learned better real quick. Pokemon:
 Reginald the Exeggutor ~He helps out in the shop mainly. He does an awesome job keeping track of inventory (guess that's what you get for having three brains). He follows mom's orders for the most part. He also got the thrilling job of watching me when mom and dad were busy when I was too young to help out in the shop too.
 Speary the Spearow ~I named him as a kid. Yeah, real imaginative, huh? Anyway, we found him shortly after I came around. I used to feed him scraps from my sandwich each day, so he stuck around. He was our resident guard dog...er bird. Just try to steal something from the shop. Speary will be on your butt faster than you can say... well, anything!
Kay, a couple of major things when around my folks. 1) Do NOT mention either my mom's height (or lack thereof), or the touch of gray she's gotten recently. 2) Don't mention sports around dad. He'll talk your ear off for hours...
My partners in crime
Familiar Faces: Hey, its me! If you seem me around, chances are I'll have one, or all of these Pokemon in my party at the time. They're the closest friends I count among my Pokemon, even if some of them can get irritating from time to time.
 Brayden Marcellus
 Totodile-Cye (m)
 Ninetails-Gin'iro (m)
 Umbreon- Caliga (f)
 Gardevoir-Ariadne (f)
Items Badges --------------------------
Cye: My Totodile, and first Pokemon. He remains the strongest on my team, so its not wise to mess with him. He's fairly easygoing, however, and prefers to relax, enjoying naps in the sun. Cye remains my transport over longer water routes. Strangely enough, he used to be a Feraligatr. I trained him from a Totodile until he reached his final evolution. Then, one day on an island in Kaya's homeland, he suddenly was back to being a Totodile. I'm not entirely sure how that happened, as I was preoccupied with fretting over Kaya at the moment, but I guess I'm not complaining. Neither is Cye apparently. He loves being able to ride on my shoulder again.
Gin'iro: I stumbled across an oddly-hued Vulpix a long while ago. Since then, Gin's been an invaluable member of my team. He's now a beautiful (and he knows it) silver Ninetails. Gin'iro's my fire-starter. He's great in battle, and is always raring to go. He also has a bit of an attitude in battle, however. He HATES getting his tails messed with/dirty. He's so vain sometimes... Anyway, once you get him mad at you, watch out. Its legend that a Ninetail's wrath lasts 1000 years.... I wouldn't doubt it.
Caliga: Caliga's probably my most common traveling companion. She's an Umbreon, and a bit of a loner, but we've grown closer over our time spent together. She definitely helps out in tough spots, and is always willing to lend a paw. She can hold a bit of a grudge, however, which extends to me if I keep her in her Pokeball for too long without a bit of exercise.
Ariadne: If you see me suddenly start to hold a conversation with myself, most likely its when Ariadne contacts me from her Pokeball. She's always willing to offer “helpful” advice and comments. It took some getting used to hear her voice in my head. She's a bit of a smart-mouth, and oftentimes has something sarcastic to say. For some reason, she's taken up the habit of calling me “boss,” which I personally think is a bit weird. I haven't been able to talk her out of it yet, however.
My autobiography rings out over the empty streets...
Miscelaneous-ness: ~Well, there are to marks on my person that I'm not the most proud of to flaunt. In fact, one's a secret only known to Kaya. You might notice from any form of contact with me that I ALWAYS wear gloves. Although it might be easily dismissed as a failed fashion statement, I wear them for another reason. On my right hand, and I have no clue how it got there, is a tattooed emblem of Team Aqua.
Now, I know what you're probably thinking, and no, I didn't get deathly drunk one day and decided to get that mark permanently etched on my person. As far as I know, I've always had this mark, even as a kiddo. My adoptive parents back in Fuchsia tell me such, anyway.
Now you can see why this isn't something to be sporting out in the open. So, hence the gloves.
My second mark I know exactly how I got it, and let me tell you: DO NOT CROSS AN ANGRY ELECTIVIRE WHO HAPPENS TO KNOW THUNDER.
Case closed.
Huh? You want to know more? Geez, you like hearing about me suffering, huh?
Well, I was in Celadon at the time. Got tied up in some bad business dealing with Team Rocket, and one thing led to another. Let's just say some trainer's aren't past ordering their Pokemon to attack human targets.
A couple of weeks in the hospital later, and I was back out in the world. But now I carry a rather nasty burn scar on my back. I've been told its in an interesting spiral pattern, but I personally don't care what it looks like...
As such... my back can be kinda sensitive to touch, so Nurse Joy explained to me. I don't recall all the medical terms, but basically, my nerves were kinda fried, so they're particularly sensitive. Usually this doesn't bother me much, though (I usually have my backpack on, so it helps shield me a bit). So I can sometimes forget about it until something unexpected touches me on the back, which can melt my brain to jell-o for a couple of seconds.
Ariadne finds it amusing to no end, I find it particularly annoying (except there was that one night when Kaya... eh, you don't wanna hear about that), end of story.
~ Another thing about me, which may be relatively obvious, me being a water Pokemon trainer and all. I LOVE the ocean. Water in general I suppose. I really like to swim, and nothing relaxes me more than a quick dip. I tend to try to stick to places that have natural water sources if I'm traveling alone (in a group I'll go pretty much everywhere).
One place I hope to travel to one day are the Whirl Islands. I've always wanted to visit there, ever since hearing of it as a kiddo.
~ Um... as far as clothing goes, I tend towards blacks, greys, and blues, although I do like green as well. I'm not too big into fashion, so you'll just usually see me in plain pants and a t-shirt. I prefer comfort over looks, I suppose.
~ For some reason, while I do love the ocean, I also have a penchant for exploring old places. Ruins, abandoned buildings, etc. Caliga's my usual traveling partner on these excursions.
Only you can cause me to be undone...
~Geez, on to stuff I hate, huh?
Spicy foods, excess amounts of electricity (although I love being outside in rainstorms...), and being hungry are probably my more tame list of things that I don't enjoy.
As for the deeper stuff?
For one, seeing my Pokemon faint in battle. Now, I know what you're thinking. Yes, I know a Pokemon can be revived usually, and yes, I do carry healing items with me.
But there's... I dunno...
Something happens to me when I see my Pokemon faint would be the best way to describe it, as vague as that is. I really can't explain it. Ariadne tried to show me what happened once, since her emotions are connected with mine...
Its like I'm a different person, really. I'm not sure what happens or why. But when she showed me what I was like...
I don't think I've ever been more scared in my life.
Even more so considering I don't remember any of it.
I'm fairly sure this would show for extending to my friends as well, since I count my party as my friends. I care deeply for all of my friends, but if something were to happen to any of them.
I'm not sure what'll happen, but I can probably safely assume that it won't be pretty.
Other things I don't like include Notaro. Something about this guy shakes me down to my core. I had the misfortune of running into him first before the others. Something I rather wish hadn't happened.
That man is a ruthless monster. Why he seems to have it out for me, I have no clue. But I have the sinking feeling that he'll fill me in one day.
 Fuchsia wasn't too much for gossip, but this time, the whole town was whispering about the strange boy found washed up on shore. There was talk of a shady boat that had circled the port for a few days, but it never made landfall, and eventually vanished. It wasn't too hard for the imaginative locals to weave a connection.
For one, the boy had a strange mark on his hand, almost like a brand. Although most of the inhabitants didn't know what this emblem meant.
An older couple named Kenneth and Katrina were the first ones to spot the waif, on their daily walk along the beach at sunset. Who knows how long he had been laying like that before discovery.
***
"Well... What's your name, boy?" Kenneth inquired to the kid, who appeared to be no more than seven or eight years old. He had regained his strength over the past few days, even managing to keep solid food down without it threatening to come back for an unwelcome visit. Something both child and current guardians were glad for.
"...Its... Brayden," came the response, almost a whisper, as the boy averted his gaze from the two strangers who almost constantly seemed to be hovering over him.
"Now boy!" came the curt order, instantly drawing his gaze back to the older man, "You need to look someone in the eyes when talking to them," he elaborated, the faintest hint of a smile darting at the corners of his mouth before flickering off, leaving Brayden cause to wonder if it had even existed in the first place.
"The best way to connect with someone is to look them in the eyes," Katrina smiled genuinely, elaborating on her husband's command, "You'll never be able to tell what they're truly thinking unless you look them straight in the eyes."
"...What if I don't want to connect?" came the sullen answer from the bedridden boy. This caused both elders to pause worriedly, exchanging a glance as the boy looked to the sheets.
"Well now, Brayden. Can you at least tell me where your mother is?" Katrina asked kindly. After all, the boy had been through a lot. He had reason to be a bit down for a while.
Brayden blinked up at Katrina, eyes clearly confused.
"What's a mother?"
"Oh dear..." Katrina murmured with the gasp, the same time as Kenneth cursed a few choice words under his breath.
***
The years had passed and the seasons changed. Brayden had found a happy home with Kenneth and Katrina Marcellus, the couple eventually officially adopting the boy. Fuchsia had long since settled back into the normal stroke of things. He never did recall where exactly he had come from, but that didn't really matter to him any. After all, the present is more important than a past you can't recall.
Katrina and Kenneth were kindly, but not doting on Brayden. He grew up as any other normal boy would. That is, causing trouble, getting in trouble, and working to fix his mistakes. He learned the value of hard work, as well as respecting both people and Pokemon. It was relatively easy for him, considering he had been pretty much a blank slate when Kenneth and Katrina had started looking after him.
His two guardians had done a bit of research on what the mark on his hand meant, believing it to be some link to Brayden's past. Hoping to find where he had come from, or at least his parents, Kenneth and Katrina weren't exactly prepared for what they discovered when they investigated the mark.
Brayden was never told the reason, however, he was advised to wear a pair of gloves at all times.
 "What the heck was that?" one of the Aqua grunts asked his companion, taking a step back from the stairs, from which the menacing growling and thundering footsteps was emerging. His Poochyena, fur standing on end, withdrew a few steps as well, growling, but still with fear.
The other Aqua took a defensive position by his partner. "I don't know...I don't even know what kind of Pokemon that could be...not even the boss has something that sounds like that..."
Heavy footsteps began heading up the stairs, shaking hanging plaques and making the floor tremble. And then, the footsteps stopped.
Suddenly, a blast of fire shot from the staircase, striking one of the Aquas directly and sending him flying into a row of displays, the cracked glass shattering as he hit it. All eyes in the room followed the movement, and when the man had slumped down into the sharp shards silently almost in slow motion, half his skin scorched off, it was evident that he was no longer alive.
It had happened so fast that the man hadn't even had time to scream.
And then it emerged.
A gigantic monstrosity of iron and stone pushed itself through the narrow entrance to the room, its thick tail cutting gouges into the floor. Twice as tall as a man, with claws were nearly half a foot long, its two-foot long horns scraped the ceiling; its metallic fangs clashed sparks in its huge maw. Everyone in the room, human and Pokemon, stepped back.
***
Brayden stood outside the Pokecenter, shaking, clinging to Gin'iro as the Vulpix mewled, shaken up as much, if not more so, as his trainer.
"Wh-what happened?" Brayden whispered, more to assure himself that his voice was still working.
There were no answers, he realized.
Whoever this guy was, he was dangerous.
No. The red-eyed demon of a man was more than that.
He was death itself...
***
"A red-eyed man?" Kaya inquired, as Brayden nodded the affirmative, shivering slightly with the memory of the bloodshed that had happened in the Slateport museum. He didn't think he could ever set foot in the building again after what he had witnessed.
"It can't be..." Kaya's startled, and fearful whisper was enough to draw Brayden back to the conversation.
"Notaro Kiako," Kaya murmured, "The man who kidnapped my brother and I years ago. He was exiled from our nation after that but... to think he's still at work with his demonic plans."
 Brayden blinked, still feeling woozy from whatever it was Notaro had injected into him. It hurt like hell, he mused, rubbing his neck absently.
"Remind me to keep an eye out for thieves with chloroform," he muttered darkly to himself. Well, at least everyone was alright. Even if Lance held the completed blade from legends.
It all came rushing back to him then.
He had attacked Kaya.
The rage bubbled up inside of him then, at Notaro yes, for causing this mess in the first place, but also at himself. For not being strong enough to resist the madman's control.
And even more pure rage at himself for discovering that, deep down, there was a part of him that wanted to obey Notaro...
That scared him most of all.
***
"The truth is, I know what this mark means," Brayden murmured to Ariadne, who hovered next to her trainer, listening quietly.
"I didn't think too much of it at first," he admitted, "However, it was all but confirmed while we were in Lilycove. The horrid thing is, Sean recognized me. Although he couldn't tell who I was due to the Vulpix effects in my DNA at the time, there was enough recognition in his eyes to prove to me that there was, indeed, ties in my past to Team Aqua..."
'What do you suppose that means?' Ariadne spoke up, thankfully not offering any sarcastic comments at the moment. It was clear to her that Brayden needed some support at the moment. He wasn't at his best.
"I'm not sure but, I know I shouldn't hide something like this from Kaya," Brayden murmured, sadness turning to a flicker of anger at himself the next moment.
"I just wish I could remember..."
'Sorry, boss,' came Ariadne's psychic whisper, 'I'm just not strong enough yet to be able to uncover those memories for you yet. Perhaps I will in time, but until then, we'll have to take things one step at a time.'
One step at a time.
