No, and if you call a Macedonian a Greek, you might get beaten quite badly.

I'd better be carefull then...a banana is tougher than me!!! lol biggrin
I think that Macedonia belongs to Greece(it's just my personal opinion) because Greece was divided into cities at ancient times...By that logic, Sparta,Athens,Eleusines or Macedonia are different countries. Furthermore, Macedonia used the same language, religion and government with all other greek cities. Finally, the greek language found in the tombs of Macedonian kings proves that Macedonia is greek.....

By that logic, Greece should belong to Macedonia, since Macedonia conquered it.

Battle of Chaeronea, 330-something BC, or was it earlier? Maybe "conquer" isn't the best word, but Philip and Alexander did beat the combined forces of Athens and Thebes and their allies, after which those cities did kind of have to toe the Macedonian line. And after Alexander, the kings of Macedonia maintained various fortresses around Greece, most notably Corinth and the Piraeus.

But that was then. I know the Greeks have made a major fuss about Macedonia in recent years, the point where the official name of the former Yugoslav republic of Macedonia is "the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia."

You are quite right...It was not a war,nor philip wanted to conquer...The Athenians teamed up with Thebes because Philip wanted to make an alliance with all Greece... Athenians didn't want to, so they tried to prevent it... The revolution was started by 2 rhetors, Demosthenes and another one...The one was assasinated and Demosthenes commited suicide in order to avoid shame... Oh my!!! What a story! lol biggrin

Sure!
F.Y.R.O.M. wants to be called Macedonia because of marketing reasons..
I think this will cause serious damage to history,as Macedonia is one of the greek states, like Athens and Sparta,we all know that. They even had the same language, the greek language. Alexander conquered what he conquered with the help of every state in Greece(except Sparta).
I'm afraid that we started loosing the game,as many countries agreed in the ame Macedonia...

Gee, lemme ask my Macedonian friend, and then I'll get back to you...

Only the monied Macedonians spoke Greek. Your average phalangist would be speaking a mishmash Greco patois that was certainly not the real deal.

Basically the types like Philip and Alexander could afford to play the game, but Macedonian culture as a whole was no more greek than say that of Thrace.
