Making his way to the kitchen, Shao left Clint sleeping in their shared room, grateful for some time to himself. Much as he might complain about it--and get irritated with the demands put forth by his 'trainer', Shao didn't mind the kid...too much. At least, not most of the time. But, with a shared room, and Clint's naturally rambunctious nature (read: loud), the easily irritated zangoose had been more than pleased to discover that the boy slept early, and wasn't easily awoken by the shiftings of a more nocturnal roommate.
Wrinkling his nose, Shao shook his head as he remembered Clint's idea of 'dinner'--a proffered, if rather stale, twinkie. Making for the refrigerator, he ran slender fingers soothingly across his stomach, in a vague attempt at quieting its grumbling.

Right there in the kitchen, quiet and observant like any good feline, sat the pokémorph of another trainer... of sorts. Alphonse, the meowth. Despite having been a very normal pokémon, nothing special at one time, Alphonse felt quite proud of himself. And it showed in the way he moved and spoke, gallant and confident.
"... midnight snack?" He asked, narrowing his eyes and smirking ever-so-casually. Being a feline, he could easily pass unnoticed to most other creatures - except the most observant kind. And he always got a kick of surprising them when they least expected it, such was the case with Shao.

Caught utterly off-guard, Shao tripped over his own feet, stifling a curse as he stubbed his toe in a failing attempt at regaining his balance. Tail flicking in irritation, he fixed the feline pokémorph with a barely-disguised glare. He -hated- being caught off guard, he decided with a mental huff.
"My trainer has no comprehension as to what the meaning of a balanced diet is." he retorted, grimacing as his abused toe throbbed.
"What about you...lying in wait for an unsuspecting victim?" He couldn't resist the unsubtle rebuke, cocking his head to the side.

"Who knows. Do you want to be my unsuspecting victim?" The feline snickered, sliding off the stool he'd been sitting on to saunter towards the other male. He looked so annoyed and embarrassed, and that was good enough for him. His goal had been achieved.
Giving the man a light shove to the side, he took the liberty to peek in the refrigerator and grasp one of those drinkable yogurt things that were suddenly very popular. Drinking yogurt seemed so silly, and yet... it tasted so good! "How about this? It tastes good. You might want to try it, so you can go back to bed like a good boy."

Shao glared. "If you're asking, then I'm already a suspecting victim, aren't I?" he muttered, debating for an instant when the other moved to nudge him out of the way, before obliging, letting the feline get to the refrigerator.
"I don't like yoghurt." he said simply, prickly enough to say it whether it was true or not. Honestly, he wasn't sure what he wanted to eat--just that he needed something other than the junk food that his human was so fond of.
"And anyway, if you weren't in here for something to eat, what were you sitting in here for?"

"Suit yourself, then. I personally love this." With a chesire-esque grin, he pulled the cap off the little plastic bottle and took a long sip from that strange but enjoyable 'drink'. When the bottle was lowered, it revealed a yogurt mustache over the meowth's lips - which he promptly cleaned with a lick of his tongue.
At the question, he sauntered back to his stool again and took a seat. "I'm a feline. We're very nocturnal, didn't you know?"
His tail flicked behind him, and he made a gesture with his hand to beckon the zangoose closer. Since he was up, he might as well enjoy a little late-night chat with him. "I'm Alphonse. And you are?"

Rolling his eyes, Shao eyed the contents of the refrigerator once the other had moved out of the way, pulling a ham sandwich, wrapped in cellophane, out, and unwrapping it slowly.
Eyeing Alphonese warily, he nonetheless moved to a free stool, prize in hand. He was still irritated, but willing to call truce, at least long enough to finish his sandwich.
"Shao." he stated, taking a bite.

"Pleasure. I don't have to think up a nickname for you, I like that."
His eyes followed every movement of the other male, as a sneer formed in his lips. He wasn't trying to be rude, that was just his nature! After all this time of being around, he hardly had the chance to talk to the other residents - mostly because they were rather busy during the day, a time where he'd rather nap and pamper himself as much as he could. Needless to say, he was somewhat spoiled.
"So, who is your trainer? Maybe I've seen him around. I have been around here for a while, and just now I noticed people coming into the mansion." He took another sip from his yogurt, paused a moment to taste it, then continued. "With other pokémon, that is."

"I believe my trainer would have trouble remembering it if it was much longer." he stated dryly, after swallowing. It was amazing how good something as simple as a ham sandwich tasted, after the sugary overload he'd been subjected to by his well-meaning trainer.
Shrugging, he hesitated, sandwich hovering in front of his mouth. "My trainer? He calls himself Clint...we arrived not too long ago, so I haven't met any of the other pokes, yet." When he wasn't scaring innocent bystanders half out of their wits, this...Alphonse didn't seem half bad. Irritatingly smug, perhaps--but then, it was rare for the zangoose to encounter anyone who didn't grate on his nerves over something.

"They're not too sociable yet, from what I've seen... though, I suppose I can't blame them, this house is so big."
His yogurt was gone by now, and the bottle laid abandoned on the counter while he folded his arms over the smooth wooden surface to rest his chin on it. Like a cat, his tail flicked up and down - which meant he was content. Most of the time, anyway.
And now, it was time to indulge himself with sweets his trainer often gave to him, to keep him happy and content. He pulled out a heart-shaped box of bonbons seemingly from nowhere and placed it on the counter, opening it very slowly as if it kept the world's biggest secret inside. "Ahh, my favourite! My trainer always knows what candies I like best. Mm~"

Shao wrinkled his nose in distaste at the mere sight of the sugary bonbons--while usually he didn't mind, even enjoyed the occasional sweet treat...the thought of more sugar, in his current state, was enough to prompt a barely concealed shudder of revulsion.
He resisted, barely, making a remark as to how many bonbons it would take to make the slender feline beside him noticeably chubby.
"Can't say I blame them, really, if you're prone to terrifying the living daylights out of others on a regular basis." he stated, tone deliberately bland.

"Bah, don't be silly! It's not my fault you were caught off guard, you know. I was just... sitting."
He grinned almost sweetly before popping a bonbon in his mouth, tasting it and letting out a pleased little purr as it melted. Delicious, soft, sweet, satisfying... was there any reason someone would not want one? On this thought, he picked another one up to hold it to his current companion.
"Would you like one of these? They're imported, I believe. And they're stuffed with liquid white chocolate, too." Simply irresistible, weren't they? "Say 'ahh~'"

Shao snorted. "I don't jump at shadows, you know." he retorted, tone somewhat stiff.
Watching the other eat his bonbon, Shao took another bite of his sandwich. When the other proffered one of the bonbons, he shook his head, glad for the excuse his sandwich offered. "Really, I'm good with the sandwich--too many sweets would ruin my appetite..." he answered, eyeing said candy with distaste.

The meowth scoffed in turn, then shook his head. "Don't be silly, it's just a bonbon. A piece of chocolate. Having just one won't hurt."
As if to prove it, he popped the one he'd been holding into his mouth (since it was beginning to melt, anyway). The smirk that appeared on his face afterwards was full of delight, and he eyed the zangoose with mischievous eyes. "See? It might be good for you to eat one. It would make wonders for that sour face you have!"

Shao glowered, shaking his head in determined refusal. No longer concerned with offending the other, he shifted, putting a few more inches between them, and attacking his own sandwich with gusto.
"I happen to like my 'sour face'." he snapped, tail lashing.
"And anyway, bonbons make you fat...and rot your teeth." Nose in the air, his expression was downright chilly. So much for being only vaguely annoying. domokun
