User ImageThere were many things that the pale strangers brought to Africa. Both the people of the land and the creatures weren't quite ready for the changes. Strange formations of stone and steel started appearing, built on the backs of the native people. The strangers brought with them sticks that sounded like thunder, sending fire and iron out into the body of whomever was unfortunate enough to stand on the wrong side of such a power.

Man was already a creature of strange abilities, using sticks with pointed stone tips, summoning and controlling fire, building mobile caves to sleep in, taming beasts, and wearing their pelts on their bodies.

Kayin had been unfortunate.

Found as a starving cub by a young hunter in-training, Asad, now he was just about all the man child had. His tribe had been ravaged by the invaders. Asad and Kayin were nearly inseparable. Kayin was a horrible hunter, unaware of how loud he moved and unable to hear the movements of his prey. Asad was never a strong fighter, but he was a talented tracker and trapper. Asad kept Kayin fed, Kayin protected Asad from the beasts of the savanna.

Presently, the duo was setting up camp for the night. Asad was pulling the pelt from a freshly killed antelope calf. Kayin stood watch nearby, slowly looking around. A small lion, lean and stunted in growth from a youth of poor nutrition, thinned mane, but in his more recent years it had filled out a bit.

Tezba had been roaming around the vast dry dessert for weeks now with hardly any water or food. From a far any creature could see how thin he had become.
Tezba walked aimlessly in the heat. His vision was a blurr and his mind could hardly think for himself. Tezba glanced up, hoping that his travel had brought him to either some scrapps of food or a water hole. In the the distance he saw the outlines of two figures. They looked to be surrounded by water. As he came closer to the objects the large mass of "water" seemed to fad away, but the two figures became more detailed.

Kayin eventually glanced over, catching the approaching figure. He squinted into the darkness, rising up to all fours. Asad glanced up as his pale companion stirred, growling to alert his 'master' of the approaching creature.

"What is it Tau?" Asad whispered, though he knew it was futile. The creature was unable to hear him speak... it was apparent from the cub's young age. He was loud, clumsy, and completely unable to hunt... but he kept thieves at bay , and many wild beasts kept well away from the sight of a lion.

Kayin growled again, taking a few slow steps forward.

"Who....are you?" He spoke slowly in a slurred voice- but loudly.

Tezba flinched slightly, he wasn't used to hearing anything other than his footsteps. His eyes wondered back and forth between the two creatures. The words spoken took a minte to registure.
He proceeded to walk toward the creatures as he replied. "I, ah, am Tez-Tezba. Who are you? W-where am I?"

Kayin leaned forward, watching the stranger's mouth very, very closely. His own mouth moved a bit, imitating the motions he used to speak. It took a long while before Kayin would answer. Tezba...the stranger's name. He'd never heard it before. For a moment Kayin had hoped it would have been Utomo, his brother, or Hodari his old 'father' figure.

"...You are....", he looked to the side, then back over, "..you are in front."

Asad snatched his spear up quickly, standing himself up beside Kayin, "...is he a friend?"

Still Kayin didn't even seem to notice what Asad had said, but his posture had relaxed a bit.

"Front? Where is Front? I've never heard of these parts before." He tilted his head to the side, a bit perplexed by the name in which the lion had given him. Tezba looked to the lions side to see the young boy. Feeling a bit threatened, Tezba took a few steps back."Who is you twos?"

Kayin again watched the other lion speak, mouthing the words slowly after Tezba spoke them. He wrinkled his nose up, turning the words over in his mind. He'd not named his man-child. It was difficult to explain.

"He warrtch (watch) me." He slurred slowly, glancing between Asad and Tezba. "I warrtch him..."
