No, you don't mean either of those things.
What you're looking for are Lloyd's Tech-Type abilities, the 'alternate form', so to speak, of the ones he uses normally. If you play Lloyd as the "hack 'n slash" type he is naturally, he'll instantly gravitate to Strike-Type and learn moves like Super Sonic Thrust, Sonic Sword Rain, and Heavy Tiger Blade.
Alternately, if you equip him with the Technical Ring (Found either by the Balacruf Mausoleum or the Tower of Mana, I''m not sure) he'll move to the other end of the scale and develop slightly different attacks such as Hurricane Thrust, Sword Rain: Alpha and Beta, and Tiger Rage.
This may require the 'deleting' of his S-Type moves, because he can't know both at once. This applies similarly to every character, and one of the fun wrinkles in the game is to go through a second time and attempt to learn the alternate abilities of each character.

Actually the T-ring helps move them towards T type. What really defines weather or not they are T or S is the Ex Gem settings. If you go to the Ex Gem set up you can select different abilities or effects of each gem, each will either be a S or T type ability. Depending on how many you set up as S or T types determines weather a person is a S or T type.
