-The Story-
Kaliannah Heolster was the last born of a wealthy nobleman, Taddeus Heolster, and his wife, Elisheva Blodwen Heolster. Before her they had two other girls and a boy. The boy, Donovan Heolster, was the oldest. Followed by Laylani and Ashleah Heolster. They lived togeth in a large mannor in a town called Kalista.
Kalistians were known for their pride and honnor. They believed very strongly that anything abnormal was simply unacceptable. If any family member of any family, both noble and peasant alike, were to have any abnormal qualities they were to be 'dismissed' from the family. Cast out to fenf for themselfs, or to die. You may think it is cruel, Kaliannah did, but most Kalistians thought it was quite normal.
Kaliannah was not a typical Kalistian from birth. She was born with dark hair which her mother and father kept coverd with a bonnet for all Kalistians' hair was light colored. The darkest hair a Kalistian was known to have and still be Kalistian was a light brown. Kaliannah's was almost black. The Heolster family were very caring and thought that, untill she was the proper age to have her hair changed for good, they would keep her in a bonnet to hide her hair color.
Her hair was not the only thing abnormal about the last child born to the Heolsters. She was very smart and lean at a young age that people seemed to disappear. When she questioned her mother about it she was told "Oh, they wernt true Kalistians my dear. They wernt normal. There is no need for abnormalties in a Kalistian society." Kaliannah did not agree.
When she truned seven she began wanting to be able to wear her hair out and fixed like her sisters, but ofcourse she was not allowed to do such a thing. Once and a while, when her father was out, her mother would fix her hair and let her wear it out around the house. She was never allowed to do that when her father was home. he couldnt stand to look at her if even a strand was out of her bonnet. He thought her a mistake.
Things only got worse when she aged. At age 12 she learned she had a mysterious power over small gusts of wind. She could call them to her, manipulate them, or push them away. If it was hot, she always had a steady breeze around her, even on the most still days. When other Kalistians began noticing them her parents ordered her to stop whatever 'unnatural nonsence' she was doing. Insted of stopping, she got very good at not being caught playing with the wind.
At age 14 she learned that wind was not the only thing she could control. Water was also at her beck and call. When she was alone she would make the water in the pound behind their house dance. If she spilled any on her new dresses she simply called it into her hand, no one ever knew about this power of hers.
It grew as she played with it untill eventually she was able to calle water from the coulds and make it rain. She could cause tonadoes with her wind. Then, the most destructive of her powes came, lightening. She was at frist able to collect and controll small sparks of elecrticity, then the sparks got out of control, she would shock anyone or anything she touched. He bonnet started almost hopping off her head. Her parents ordered her to stop this 'devilness' at once. She became scared and tried to cut off all connection to all the powers she possesed, but this only made it worse. Once she stopped useing them they went wild. She was no longer even tring to learn to control them, hoping to forget all about them. But it was hard to forget about something that nearly elecreicuted her whenever she touch metal.
The time finally came when she was 16. She and her family spent many months trying to dye her hair a lighter color but nothing would take her dark locks any lighter. Not to mention they we shocked every time they touched her. So, for her 16th birthday, and her coming out party, she was forced to remain in a bonnet instead of shocking everyone with the long gorgeous hair that was underneath. As she approached her party in the most luxurious gown she had ever worn before, her heart pounded, her stomach ws twisted in all directions, was trying to keep her powers from interfeering with her night, but her nevers had the better of her. The more nervous she got the more wind came to her. Water began pouring from the sky. Lightening flashed brightly above the clouds, occasionaly stricking the earth. Everything was going as well as could be expected untill a vary handsome young man asked her to dance. She was so scared to take he hand that the stom worsened. She reached out to take his hand atlast, and the moment they touched a sparck so strong and wild errupted from their fingers throwing both of the back, the wind that had gatherd around her kept her from hitting anything but the young man was thrown hard into a wall.
All eyes were on her. She searched despratly for her parents who tried for so long to keep her safe. They were approaching her. She held out her hands to them but they would not come close engough for her to touch them. Her sisters and brother stood with their mother as their father stepped closer to Kaliannah.
He reached out towards her head. Kalliannah smiled, expecting him to rub her cheek as he did with his other girls. instead he grabbed ahold of the bonnet. Kaliannahs hands flew to her head. "Daddy, NO! Dont!" Her mother began sobbing into her brothers shoulder. No one was talking. Her father got the bonnet off of her head. Her curls of black silky hair fell to her lower back. Everyone in the Hall gasped. A few mutterded things like "I knew she was abnormal-" and "How horrible" or "-of the devil" Tears began to fall from her eyes. She knew she was going to be dismissed.
Her father stood tall and straight infront of her. She looked at him, searching his face for any emotion, she found none. He mother was crying harder. It was the longest and most painful silence she had ever experienced. Her father finally opened his mouth to speak. "Kalianna Heolster, I dismiss you from our family, you will no longer dishonor us with your abnormal ways. You will no longer dishonor the Heolster name which Donovan will carry on. I hereby stip you of all and any connection to the Heloster family." Kaliannah nods, knowing there is nothing she can do. Then, as in every dismission, the town couroused "We dismiss you from our society."
Since that day Kaliannah has been on her own. Learning her power, using it to survive. She secretly hoped to meet another Kalistian cast off on her journey through life. She no longer considers her self Kaliannah, now she is known simply as Kali. No more, no less. She is living her life as a nomad. Traveling, working for food, alone. Atleast untill she finds a place suitable for her and her dangerous powers.
