To think that this forest had been so lively when the sun had settled itself high in the sky, nestled between fluffy clouds and a comforting blanket of blue. Dusk had transformed it, and it now stood silent, bathed in the dying, dusty light of the sun, hues of violent orange and gold splashing against gnarled wood and lush leaves. The palomino mare picked her way through the outskirts of the forest, a gentle hum stirring somewhere in her throat, accompanied by an random jangle of chains here and there. As the mare paused for a moment, arching her long neck over one shoulder, the ivory horn hidden among the golden mane that spilled over one side of her face caught the rapidly fading light and all but gleamed.

Something about this forest, the way it had completely transformed itself right before her very eyes...It fascinated her. Her frosted gaze lingered on sights that had once been familiar before she delicately picked up her step again. How silly, to be content by simply wandering about in the shadows of a sunset-framed forest...yet Feryal just couldn't bring herself to leave quite yet. Perhaps just a minute more of weaving through the trees...

Silently, swiftly, stealthily. All words that Trevelyn had learned held merit when out and about, and all words that he tended to utilize in his day to day wanderings. Today was no different, with the large tan stallion moving through the woods with a quietness that belied his size.

Oh, there was no real reason for him to be quiet. This was a pleasant part of the woods, open and lit and airy, hightly unlikely to be populated by things of an unpleasant nature...but it was hard to break old habits. These days, he crept along without even realizing he was doing it.

That was probably why he noticed the mare before she noticed him. Or maybe it was because he happened to be looking the right way at the right time. Either way, a glint of silver caught his eye, and he turned to see the angled head of a unicorn mare. He hadn't been expecting to meet anyone, but out here...anything was possible.

Smiling, he called out softly, so as to hopefully not spook her, "Good day, Miss!"

She hadn't noticed him at all to be frank, and though her eyes were frosted with polite curiosity, the mare hardly looked startled to spot the tanned stallion. "Good evening." She greeted politely, a faint smile flickering across her dappled muzzle. An unexpected surprise, surely. Her eyes strayed for a moment to the curved horn on his forehead, and the mare tossed her head with surprise, picking her way closer to the male. Another unicorn? Even if it wasn't so, Feryal could hardly mind the company.

"Such a pretty forest, is it not?" She said absently, taking her eyes off him for a moment to again admire the colors that had laid themselves out for all to see. How out of place she was, among such a fiery sunset. "You move very quietly." Came the unexpected observation, and, after a moment more, the unicorn glanced back at her unknown companion to offer him another ghost of a smile. "I wouldn't have heard you at all if you hadn't called out."

Her eyes trailed him once more, noting amusedly that he was almost the same color as she, though her hair had a fine, almost orange glow to it. And, where as she was flecked with bits of color here and there, he was solid, his mane and tail a deep, rich color while her's was white. So many curious inhabitants here. "Do you come here often? It's rather fetching..."

Pleased that he hadn't spooked her, Trev stepped out around the the tree he'd been near, moving closer and giving the mare a slight bow as she did so. At this close distance, he could see clearly the shimmering horn that had first attracted his attention; unlike his own horn, which had a pearly quality about it, hers was rather shimmery, like silver. Very interesting...especially when her horn was so long and straight. He and his mother shared their curved horn style, and he'd never seen any other unis before. Fascinating.

At her comment about the forest, he smiled as well; THIS was why he wasn't surprised to meet another. It really was scenic. "Yes, it really is lovely; I live not too far from here, but seeing things on a near-daily basis doesn't necessarily detract from their pleasantness. Are you a resident, or a passer-by?" It really could be either, but he didn't know all of his neighbors. And as for him being quiet...

"Well, I've learned the value of silence. I'm glad I didn't shock you, though; sometimes I sneak up without realizing it."

The bow was returned with a little dip of her neck--but it was clear that she was just as keen on observing the horn situated in the center of his forehead. It looked...ribbed almost, certainly much different from her own horn. A truly intriguing observation. Perhaps other unicorns had different structures as well? That thought was shuffled to the back of her mind and stowed away for later use. It wouldn't be polite to lose herself when he'd taken the trouble to engage her in conversation.

Her ears flicked patiently as she listened to him, smiling thoughtfully in acknowledgement to his words. "Too true. Ahh, I come from the mountains. I find the cold weather suits me much better than here...though, lately I find that I wander down more and more. The mountains are beautiful, yes, but I'd never seen sights like these before...They're wonderful."

Feryal seemed to catch herself after her absent-minded monologue, her ears tipping back lightly after giving her head a toss. "Oh, no, don't be." She said pleasantly, the chains around her neck jingling faintly as she shook herself again. "I've yet to find any reason why I should be shocked by meeting someone new, even if they are as silent as falling snow." From the way another smile flickering across her muzzle, the reference was obviously being applied to him.

Obviously the two unis were a study in the differences inherant between members of even the same race. But even though they were markedly different as far as horns were concerned, Trevelyn wasn't the type to obsess over a feature. After all, he had a few out of the ordinary features himself in his horn, fangs, and chain. Besides, compared to his mother and sister, most Soquilis were less than shocking.

It was nice to meet someone new and unrelated though, to say nothing of pleasant. "Ah, so you are truly out of your usual area. The nearest mountains I know of are quite a ways away...hopefully you are enjoying this region for more than just the views, otherwise, that's a long way to walk for nothing."

Still, form the sound of it she was more than a little bit content with the surroundings, which was nice. As was her attitude. "Well, I've never really listened to falling snow, but I suppose that's a good thing. Haven't had too much experience with snow, so I've got nothing to compare to. Still, you'd be surprised how twitchy people can be out here in the woods; sometimes that's for a good reason, too, as you never know who you're going to meet." The woods could be dangerous, after all...

She'd failed to even notice the rest of him yet, taking her time with one detail before meticulously shifting onto the next bit. The fangs only earned a curious blink, but it was the dream-catcher around his neck that drew her gaze, politely flicking her eyes back to his once he began to speak again. Though she was curious, staring would only make her seem rude.

"Oh, well." For a minute, Feryal almost looked a little abashed, shaking her head even quicker to toss that blonde mane here and there. "I do not know many people. I had no other reason to come down, if just for the new sights. But yes, so far, I have enjoyed those I've met, the things things I've learned, and the different temperatures." Another little smile, this one more for herself.

"Truly?" The mare looked shocked at that, frosty eyes widening and her ears perking straight up. "Ohh, that's a shame. I must take you to the mountains sometime--there's nothing quite like it. It's almost--magical." Feryal paused for a moment at the mention of people being twitchy, a concerned tilt of her head emphasizing that she didn't quite understand. "No? I had no idea...Perhaps I should be more careful." Her tone was a bit reluctant--thinking that another might want to cause her trouble didn't sit right on her shoulders.

Understandable, her reasoning. After all, unless you had dealt with travelers yourself while they were in your lands, it was highly unlikely that you'd know the locals of a far-off place. And wasn't that really the reason most Soquili wandered, to see new sights and meet new people? After all, the majority of the Soquili lands were pretty nice places (as far as Trevelyn knew, anyway), so if people only traveled for necessity...there wouldn't be much traveling done, would there?

That in mind, he was pretty sure he understood where she was coming from as she explained her reasons for being here. He could ESPECIALLY understand the enjoyment she'd gotten out of the change in temperature; even though she looked like she could handle the cold well, what with her longer fur and whatnot, cold in large doses could be tough to handle. For him, at least.

Consequently, her comment about taking him to the mountains provoked laughter. "I don't know, they sound a bit too chilly for my temperately-raised self. Perhaps sometime after I've gotten more used to the idea and immersed myself in cold for a while, but until then..." He trailed off, frowning slightly at the last bit. Didn't she know about the dangers this land possessed?

"Well, you don't have to barricade yourself anywhere, just be cautious. This region is pretty, but there have been a few kalona about, and I know of at least one skinwalker that's been in the surrounding area." Not to terrorize her, of course...but vigilance was always a good idea when perusing strange lands.

"No?" Feryal mused, smiling faintly at his reaction while her tail twitched with good humor. Such a pity that few could enjoy the mountain's embrace for as long as she did. Then again, the unicorn often feared that she would suffocate during the heat of the day, not used to the devilishly bright rays of the sun. To each their own. If only it would be that easy to adjust one's self to different temperatures...

His words about kalona and even a skinwalker had her shivering, her gold-encased foreleg lifting itself to stamp with what could have been disgust. Or perhaps fear. "I had no idea." She repeated, her words softer and tinged with a distant sort of thoughtfulness. So, the cursed ones walked these lands...The normally placid mare's blood heated a bit at the thought as she blew out a grass-scented breath, her ears flicking with uncertainty.

"...You said you knew of at least one skinwalker, no? Did you encounter it yourself...?" A frightful thought, if anything. Perhaps that silence he'd exhibited earlier did more than just allow him to scare people--it might have saved his hide. "Thank you." Feryal said unexpectedly, frosty eyes gleaming with a flicker of what might have been warmth. "I'll be more careful next time. I suppose it's lucky that I've only found friendly inhabitants so far."

As her words trailed off, the mare felt almost...foolish. How could she not? To think that she'd been prancing about like some foal, completely oblivious to the fact that these beautiful lands were not as safe as they might have seemed. "Ah, before I forget. I am Feryal. And you?" The unicorn dipped her head politely in greeting.
