Mercenary. It sounds harsh, yes...but it fits.
Purpose/Personal Objectives
Janus is very much for living each day as it comes. Survival is constantly a priority. Other longer term goals include finding a convenient source for recharging Jerry's battery and finding a hidden niche or two to call home.
Personality
Janus is certainly a loner, but won't protest a partner or two to take the heat off of him. Outwardly, he doesn't care for others; the general rule is to watch your own back and ask for help only when you're dying. Deep down, he's a lot more companionable than he lets on. He tries hiding care with cold indifference and rage to those who try to end his "assets". Janus has had to resort to a lot of diplomacy and can fast-talk, but he'd rather intimidate to get his way. He very much carries a "fight to eat" attitude, but he is prone to a little ambition to get better weapons.
Previous Accomplishments
A past resume is composed mainly of assassination. A few were important enough to gain some respect among potential employers, the rest commonplace. He's embarked on an increasingly large amount of "pest control" missions- keeping the homefronts safe from monsters. He dislikes low-scale delivery or smuggling, but he does it when he must. Transporting incredibly valuable objects, however, has always held a thrill.
Physical Description
Gold is a fitting last name- Janus has golden blonde locks of hair, grown out about a finger's length. His eyes are hazel with flecks of a burnt yellow which also might be called gold. His skin is a fairer, lighter tan, and by most opinions he's scrawny. However, he's also quite lithe, so it all works out. Janus stands at a good 5' 8" and weighs 130 lbs.
Mental Description
Narcolepsy. Though it sounds odd, this truly is the focus of where Gold derives his "power". Sometimes with narcoleptics, they feel the onset of their episodes seconds before smashing to the floor in a bout of REM. Not with Janus. He feels the lurking tingle at least a full minute before his episodes occur...and what's more, he can, with much concentration, suppress their effects.
Or even weirder. With increased effort, he's been able to focus on "targets", unsuspecting people to...well...channel his Narcolepsy to. Whenever an onset occurs, he just focuses on transferring it from himself to his victim...and they're out like a light. After even more practice, he forced himself to bring up his episodes, "conjuring" this disorder like some sort of freakish magic show.
Freakish is a great word to describe how he feels inside. There's no way he's human. He just knows that, for sure. With this kind of psyche, there has to be much, much more under the surface...perhaps he can do more than make people sleep...
In any case, it's not all smiles and magic. He feels like an outcast. No one else has strange abilities like he. No one even believes him when he tries to explain his situation. They just point and laugh. It's like a bad dream...with no hopes of escape.
