My, my. This school certainly screamed "rich".

It had been about an hour after the chairman dismissed Sai to look around while he talked with her step-father, and admittedly, she was overwhelmed by the high-class decadence of it all. Certainly, it was far bigger than she thought it would be--and this was just the high school division! It had everything from water fountains to a pool on top of the west building (which was something Sai made a mental note to visit often) to several gardens placed in various areas.

After walking through some hallways and peering into some classrooms to decipher the average teacher-to-student ratio, the young lady decided to take a walk through the rose garden. Taking shade under a nice tree, she shrugged off her blue jacket (why she would wear something with long sleeves during this time of year was a baffling decision on her part) and plopped down rather casually on it, leaning on the tree. The skirt of her light blue summer dress rippled in the breeze, reminding her of the waves rolling along, towards the sandy beach. She sighed and mumbled to herself, "Man, I wish school here didn't start until September."

Satu had always hated to be inside when the sun was shining so once he had been given a break he descided to go for a walk in the gardens. He had taken his little pickilo with him, incase he had time to practice while he was outside in the fresh air. There was nothing better in his opinion then to play music in the open air. While he was walking along the rose gardens he saw a flowing piece of blue material coming out from beind a tree. He wlked over curious and spotted a girl sitting under said tree. The blue belonged to her skirt, which meant that she obviously didn't go to this school.

"Um...hello there" Satu said awkwardly. He was never very good with other people, especially new people but he had made a resolution to become a more social person. "Um...I'm Satu, Satu Kimura. I'm a first year student here. Are you waiting for a sister or brother or something?" he asked. He couldn't think of many reason why she would be here otherwise. "Unless...you're a transfer student?" he guessed.

Sai's head turned at the sound of footsteps and a male voice. At first, she could only see the shoes of a young man, but when she looked up, Sai saw his face. She smiled at his greeting. "Nice to meet you, Sa--um, Kimura-san." Sai learned the hard way that it's proper to call someone by their surname than their first last name without their permission. "I'm Chesa Shirakawa... but I prefer to be called Sai."

When he mentioned being a transfer student, Sai chuckled quietly and stood up so she was now at eye-level with him. Well, almost. "Actually, I moved to Japan about a year ago. My... family had a heated debate as to what school I would attend for high school, so I was home schooled until now. I'll be starting classes next week. Speaking of which, what class are you in?" Due to her high marks and her step-family's involvement in law, she was in Class 1A. Perhaps if Satu was in her class, it would make the first day a lot more comfortable...

Satu smiled. It was nice to have someone else to talk too. He had met some of his fellow students but felt that he didn't really know enough of them well enough to call them his 'friends'. "I'm very pleased to met you Sai" Satu said politely. "Oh please just call me Satu. I come from a very large family so formalities often get lost along with the chaos!" he said, laughing slightly. Formalities always made him feel awkward as, being the youngest, he had never once before been called my his last name, unless he was dealing with the emploies in the family business.

Satu was surpriced when he heard this. Another person who wasn't from Japan. Even though Satu had lived in Japan nearly all of his life his family was actually Italion, well his mothers side anyway. He was always interested in meeting people who wern't from Japan. "Really? You're japanese is really good. Are you're parents from here? Where did you live before you moved here?" Satu asked, now very interested. He covered his mouth and started laughing. "I'm sorry. I'm asking way to many questions. Please pardon me." he said smiling. "Oh really? So you'll be joining the rich "elite" next week then?" Satu asked, his tone quite sarcastic but this sarcasm was in no means pointed towards Sai but much more at the school. "Oh I'm in class 1B. Which class will you be in?" he asked, quickly swerving away from his last comment. "It would be cool if you were in the same class as me!"

"Alright, Satu," Sai replied with a smile. "I know some people get insulted, so I just wanted to be safe." She guessed that everyone was different when it came to being addressed. But it did feel much more comfortable to call him by his first name. Calling someone by their last name always made Sai feel like she was calling them out or something.

Sai was surprised by all the questions he had, but she didn't mind at all. She chuckled a bit and answered, "It's alright. And thanks, my mother is full Japanese so she tried to teach me it while my father taught me English. This one time, when I went with my mother on her annual trip to Japan and came back, I totally forgot how to speak English and it frightened me when I talked to my friends--my dad especially." She laughed, remembered the odd look on his face every time she tried to talk to him, unsure what to say back.

"I'm from America, actually." Sai paused, wondering if mentioning that she was born a commoner would be something she should mention or not. She was never easy with talking about what happened with her family either, so people usually thought her father and step-father were the same person. "My mother was born in Osaka and moved there when she finished high school. As for my s--uh, father, he was born and raised here. They met one day on my mother's annual trip."

When Sai heard him say class 1B, she frowned and stared back at his shoes. "Aww, I was hoping we'd be in class 1A together," she mumbled. "It would've been nice to have someone I know in my class. My father's in Law. How about your family?"

Satu smiled back. She seemd more comfortable calling him by his first name then most other people did. Usually they went all stiff and formal when he would ask them. It also made it more obvious to Satu that the girl really wasn't from Japan but he quite liked that. He spent most, if not all his summers in Italy with his mothers family and in reality he prefared Italy, mostly because of the sheer artistic side of Rome. Satu was a romantic at heart and the culture and art in Italy astounded him.

Satu laughed brightly, his giggly laugh escaping from the normally forced chuckle he usually had for people he didn't know. "Haha! I know how you feel. My mum taught all of us Italion. Every year I go to Rome to see my mums family and obviously we speak italion the entire time so when I get back to Japan I speak half japanese and half italion. Since italion isn't as widly known as English people look at me as if I'm completely insane and just speaking pure gibbirish!" he said, laughing again. "So believe me, I can completely relate to you on that experience!"

Satu nodded. "Ah I see." he said brightly. "Well all I can say is that he have beautiful japanese. You're mother taught you very well." Satu though about moving to a place like Japan. It must have been very difficult for her. After all Japan's culture was so different from any other culture in the world and was extremly difficult to get used too. Even now some of the culture confused Satu and he lived there for almost his entire life. "How are you coping with the cultural shock between America and Japan?" Satu asked her, interested to see how she was coping with such a difference.

Satu smiled sympathetically. "Well if you like we can eat lunch together everyday? That way you'll be able to sit with someone you know. Plus some of the people I sit with at the lunch table are from class IA so you'll be able to meet new people from your class easier." he said, trying to help her as much as possible. After all the first day of school was hard enough without having to transfer into it. "Oh my family is in the music business. They make handmade instruments. Apparently they're really famous for it." he said. He was always quite modest about his family. Satu never really felt they were anythign special.

For once in this school, Sai actually felt comfortable. So, she wasn't the only person here that spoke another language. "Thank you. Ah, I haven't been to Europe before, but it really looks like a beautiful place. What's it like? That actually sounds cool, being able to speak Italion! I admit sometimes I mess up and mix up my two languages. I'm just glad most people understand English. It must be awkward when they look at you oddly." she laughed with him, remembering herself when she asked someone for help and they didn't understand English at all.

"I admit, it takes me a little longer to understand and reply in Japanese, but I'm glad that people can understand. Your Japanese is actually pretty good, I think. As for how things are here compared to in America..." Sai paused, thinking about it all as she stared at the clear, blue sky. After all, it was more than the place she was getting used to--it was also the lifestyle. "Well, there are good things and bad things about this place, but it's alright. It'll take some time, still. I'm trying to find things that places have in common. Like the food, and music. They're like universal languages."

She smiled when he asked if they could eat together. Usually, it took her longer to fully trust someone, but since he was being so nice, he must be a good person. "Sure, that'd be nice," she replied. "Thanks. It's pretty hard to make new friends when you're new... especially when you enter the school later on in the year." When Satu mentioned what his family did, Sai guessed that he must've learned quite a lot about music himself. "Sounds like music is a family thing. Do you play any instruments? You must be good!"

Satu smiled. "Europe really is amazing. I really do have to admit that. The amount of culture that is one small area is simply amazing. It really does feel like you're living in the past." he said, trying to descibe it as best he could. "Its kind of like you have to be a musician or an artist or something in that genre of work in a place like that. Theres just so much inspiration it's almost unreal. If I hadn't lived there all my life it really would be overwhelming to go visit. I mean its overwhelming to go back home after living here." he said laughing slightly.

"Haha! Hopefully my japanese is descient. I mean when I'm Italy I have to go to Japanese classes so I don't forget...but I kind do anyway!" he said, laughing brightly. Satu nodded understandingly. "Well if you don't really understand anything feel free to ask me!" he said helpfully. "If you want on your first day I can give you the best tour I can of the school, I'm still unsure of somethings though since I havn't been here too long myself. Unfortinatly I also have a very bad sence of direction so I may not be alot of help in reality." he said laughing again.

Satu nodded. "Don't worry! I'll try my best to make you feel as comfortable as possible in this school! I'll introduce you to a few of the aquentences I have and so forth. Hopefully that should make it easier and make your first day a little less traumatic anyway!" he said smiling.

Satu blushed slightly. "Um...well I play a few instruments...violin, flute, saxaphone and piano mostly...but I can kind of play others aswell...but I'm not that good..." He trailed of. The last thing he wanted to do was make himself sound stuck up or make it look like he thought he was an amazing musician. "But music is sort of a passion of mine." he added brightly.

Sai marveled at what he had to say about Europe. "It sounds like a beautiful place. I hope I can see it sometime for myself," she told him.

"That'd be really nice of you if you could, Satu," Sai beamed when offered the tour. "I was able to find some of the places, but after finding the swimming pool, I thought I'd rest up here in the garden. Man, to think that this school has a giant pool on the roof! Did you know about that?" Excitement danced in her eyes as she smiled. "I can't wait to do a couple of laps there when I get the chance. Anyway, it's so nice of you to help a new student like me out. Tell me, how are most of the students here?" Sai was curious as to the attitudes of the other rich kids. Were they stereotypically snooty, or just plain... normal?

Sai was impressed by the number of instruments he mentioned. "That's amazing to me that you can play more than one. And I bet you're just being modest!" She grinned, waving her hand as if dismissing the blush on his face. "As much as I like music, I don't think I have a knack for it. I've learned the guitar from my brother, and we have a piano at home. I just enjoy playing around, though I've never read music in my life." The girl in blue stretched a bit before sitting back down on her jacket (which was still on the ground) and offered for Satu to join her in the grass. "Perhaps sometime, I could listen to you play?" Sai asked hopefully. "If music is a passion of yours, I'm sure you are wonderful at one you love to do."

Satu nodded. "It is very beautiful. Vey different from America and Japan. I'm sure you can come with me sometime!" he said without thinking.

Satu shook his head." You've certainly done some better touring then I have. I never found the pool on the roof. In truth I never really looked for it though..."he said drifting off. They was a very good reason why he didn't find that pool but he wasn't going to tell a new friend that. She would think of him as a complete sissy then and for some reason he cared much more about what she thought of him then others. He promptly snapped out of his little daze. "It's nothing. It's my pleasure" he said quickly. "It feels good to help someone out!" The students huh? They all seemed pretty nice to him. He hadn't met a student that had been horrible to him yet...but he felt it was only a matter of time. "They're a bit strange something...but in general they're quite nice." he said, trying to but his thoughts about them into words.

Satu blushed even redder. "It's nothing really. Coming from my family its really just commonplace. It seems to be quite common in Ouran here to be talented enought at something though...I'm nothing special really..." he continued. He stopped, thinking. "Um...if you like...I...I can teach you how to read music. Once you know its increadibly easy." he said softly. He didn't mean to butt in but any chance to teach someone music was great to him. Satu sat down, rather awkwardly beside her. He spluttered slightly. "Um...okay." he said. He ususally would refuse people who wanted to listen to him play but she actually seemed really interested. Satu shook his head again, his face getting ever redded, which actually didn't seem possible anymore. "I'm....really not that good." he muttered, looking down at his feet. "There is still so much room for inprovement..." he trailed off.

"That'd be great if you could teach me to read music," Sai said, smiling. Every time she tried, she found it hard to memorize them. It seemed easier just to play copycat.

She laughed, lighthearted, at his modesty. "Well, I'm sure that you're far better than me. Do you happen to have an instrument with you, or shall we find the music room?" She was very eager to him play.

"It would be my pleasure to teach you how to read music. I'm teaching my friend Roka how to play the piano aswell! Maybe I should set up a tutouring service or something?" Satu said laughing brightly. He did enjoy teaching people to play music so it wasn't a burden to him. He just though that it was amusing how people had already asked him for help, despite the fact that they were all only first years.

Satu blushed again but laughed this time. "You're that eager to hear me play huh? I'm not going to worm my way out of this one am I? Well I don't have anything with me so I guess we'll have to go to the music room!"

Sai smiled. Satu was a really nice guy! She laughed with him at the idea of a tutoring service. "Well, there's nothing like learning to be a part of music," she replied. "Just one taste, and it draws you into it. It may not be my thing exactly, but I like to have skills in pretty much anything." After all, her new step-family liked to see a well-rounded child... and that's what she wanted to be.

"Alright then, the music room it is," Sai got up and picked up her jacket, brushing off any dirt that might have gotten on it. "Shall you lead the way, sir?"
PostPosted: Mon Aug 13, 2007 8:55 am

Satu smiled brightly. "I'm sure if you joined the music club I would have time to give you the attention you need. Otherwise I would say that the music club would take up alot of my time! Plus I'm sure you'll enjoy it too! I mean nearly everyone enjoys music really!" Satu laughed again. It was true. Music really was an universal language. Maybe that was why he enjoyed it so much?

Satu got up and offered her him arm, more as a joke then anything else. "Of course Madam! Just follow me and my attrocious sense of direction!" he said laughing again.

Sai pursed her lips, thinking about the idea. "I don't know," she began. "You think I would fit in? I mean, I'm not that good or anything..."

Now that she thought about it, how were clubs here--were they like commoner's cubs, or did money change how things ran? Well, she couldn't just assume anything. "Say, could you tell me more about the club, Satu? Maybe it'll help me make up my mind."

She paused for a moment at his gesture before she realized that he was joking around. She grinned at him and threaded her arm through his. "Why certainly, sir," Sai played along, a chuckle passing through her lips. "Hopefully we don't fall into a pond on the way!"
