Any advice/feedback on this character? I might try to improve him to use in other RPs in addition to the one I'm already in.
Gaian name: Cunard
Name: Dr. Walter C. Gallows
Age: 51
Gender: Male
Brief Personality: Dr. Gallows is a sly, cynical, Machiavellian individual—it is what his job has always needed him to be. Cold, sardonic, and often completely apathetic, Dr. Gallows is a quiet man who tends to brood more often than he speaks. Calculating and ruthless, Gallows has learned to go through the motions and play many roles—he is very charismatic; at times he can seem an almost kind man, while inside he is plotting out how best to play the situation to his advantage. Even more than that, being a scientist, he is a highly educated and logical man—he is a firm believer in rational conclusions, and he will follow the facts to their logical conclusion. He is calm and collected, but, like all great minds, he too can become impatient and act in an outwardly deplorable manner.
Brief Bio: Walter Gallows was born in Manhattan on November 5th, 1956. His father, too, was a scientist, Dr. William Gallows, and his mother—a woman named Caroline Hunter; she and William never married—left his father a year after he was born. His father was a man devoted to his work with Merck Pharmaceuticals, and on the rare occasions he was at home, he tried to raise his son to the best of his ability, but really, they were nothing more than two strangers living under the same roof. When he was twelve years old, his father died of sudden heart failure (most likely stress related) and he was sent to live with his father’s brother.
Though his guardians paid him little mind, Walter Gallows was rapidly becoming an intellectual force. By the time he was a senior in high school, he was already taking advanced science and mathematics courses at the local university, and had been accepted to Columbia University by the spring semester. After earning his medical degree and various other honors, Walter Gallows married a woman named Naomi, who bore him one son, a boy they named Orson. However, after receiving a senior research position at Viadoxic Pharmaceuticals, Dr. Gallows’ interest in his son and his lovely wife began to wane, which led to numerous arguments. At thirty five, he began keeping strange hours, leaving early in the morning and arriving home later at night, and his once kindly features were marred by an ever-present scowl. After his wife admitted to adulterous behavior with one of his colleagues, divorce papers were filed, and Walter relinquished his rights to his then eight year old son. Mysteriously, Naomi Gallows was raped and murdered several weeks later, and all record of Orson Gallows stopped in his fourteenth year.
From then on, Walter buried himself more deeply into his work, and is now on the executive board of Viadoxic, and is the head of his own laboratory. He has stepped on many people to get where he is now, and bows to no man. He is unremorseful and is willing to do whatever is necessary to maintain the life he has become accustomed to and the pursuit of knowledge.
Sins: Walter Gallows is not an innocent man, and he knows it. Constantly motivated by greed, Walter Gallows has stepped over anyone who dared to get in his way. To the best of his knowledge, fifteen people have committed suicide because of ruthless takeovers of small businesses which he initiated.
Sixteen years ago, he was responsible for the rape and murder of his wife. Six weeks after the divorce, Naomi contacted Walter, confessing that she was pregnant and that she was fairly sure that it was his child. Enraged but playing the part of the humbled spouse, he convinced Naomi to allow him into her apartment, where he forced himself upon her and slit her throat.
He is also said to have had a role in the death of his son, Orson, who is mentioned as a test subject in numerous Viadoxic lab reports on the subject of experimental antipsychotic drugs. All record of Orson W. Gallows stops when he hit age fourteen, and his body has never been recovered.
Reason for taking the train: Walter Gallows was taking the train into the city, in order to get to a board meeting.
Destination: His destination is his place of employment—the upscale office complex in which his meeting his being held.
Other: He seems to be carrying very little on his person, with the exception of a copy of the New York Times. However, in the pockets of his suit, he is carrying about $200 in small bills, a silver pocket watch, and an SOG Arcitech pocket knife (http://www.savsonswordsandknives.com/sogarcitech.html). In his soft canvas briefcase, he is carrying various budget documents and lab reports, as well as a Palm T/X Handheld Organizer (w/ Bluetooth), and a pipe and tobacco.
Appearance: Dr. Gallows is a fairly tall man at six feet, and is lean in build and lightly muscled. His features are pale and well-proportioned, and his face shows few signs of his true age—all he has, really, are clever little wrinkles at the corners of his eyes and tight lines at his mouth. He seems to be the stereotypical business man, really. His short, well-kept hair, once black, has turned silver with age and stress, and his eyes are a light blue. His failing vision is aided by square, black-rimmed eyeglasses. His moustache, also gray, is so straight it almost appears as if he trimmed it with a slide rule. He is clad equally neatly in a black Emporio Armani suit with a white button-down shirt and a black vest. On his left wrist he wears the Rolex Datejust 31mm.
