Jonik had been having one of his bad days. They popped up regularly and never seemed to go away. It was times like these that he hated his job, hated logging everything and most of all having to constantly remember what date it was.
Because whenever something concerned his family, those he dearly loved and had left behind, he would have to be reminded. Every anniversay and birthday and holiday that they had enjoyed together would jump up at him screaming at him to take notice.
Normally he would just drink away his sorrows but lately that wasn't working anymore, and now here he was with a stinking hangover, trying to catch up with all the work he'd neglected because today was the anniversary of his wedding.
Having procrastinated for so long, the quarter master found himself working long into the night in with an annoyinglt flickery lamp, which, as it had been threatening to do all night, managed to topple over as the ship rocked violently over a patch of rough sea, spilling flaming oil onto his hand and forearm.
After a few moments of panic and vigorous flame stamping followed by a good amount of agony, the unfortunate quartermaster left his charred desk in search of the surgeon.

“No, this isn’t it either… where did I put that book.” Keita whispered to himself, as he frantically made his way around his small office. In reality, it was actually just a medium sized room aboard the ship, with a few small overly sterile beds and a bunch of objects that Keita used for his profession. The room, whilst normally completely and utterly spotless, now looked like it had been hit by a tidal wave. The blonde surgeon had been spending his time lately reading over books that would assist him in the task of delivering Macy’s child, and whilst it was no excuse for his bad tidiness, it did leave him feeling rather frantic.

Jonik had made his way to the other side of the ship, until he was finally outside the doctor's cabin. He hoped that Keita was in and not chasing the damned bird around with a needle or whatever it was the flamingo needed to take.
He knocked tentatively with his good hand, the other one blistered and red and hanging limply at his side. Yep this definitely classified as a bad day.

The sound of Jonik’s knocking pulled the blonde medic out of his stupor and back into the real world. Taking one look around the room, he cringed at the mess. “I’ll be there momentarily!” He called out to whoever stood before the door, as he quickly did his best to clean up the room. There was no time to do a proper cleaning, so he settled for the traditional ‘shove everything into the closet method’. It wasn’t the most organized means of cleaning the mess, but it would serve its purpose.

Once he had deemed the area clean enough, he hastily made his way towards the door. “Sorry for the wait, I was in the middle of searching for something.” He explained, as he opened the door to reveal a rather horribly burnt quarter master. “How on earth did you manage that?” He asked, as he motioned the other inside and towards one of the few chairs he had situated in the room.

"Oh, my lamp broke." said Jonik sheepishly. "Nasty fire it was, ruined most of the work I did today. And it could have spread to the entire ship if I hadn't caught it sooner." It was an embarrasing confession. On any merchant ship, a sailor would have been flogged for such a lapse in the ship's safety. Luckily their captain was a little more relaxed about these things but still it could have been dangerous. His arm was proof of that.

The distinct feeling of a migrane began to spread through the surgeons head at the others confession. He had always hated those dangling lamps, thinking them to be safety hazards. Would it really set Caspian back so much to install a secured gas lamp on some of the ships walls? They may be a bit more expensive, but the risk of setting the ship aflame was reduced severly. Not to mention so were the chances of injury.

Reaching for his medical supplies situated on his small desk, Keita snatched up a few traditional burn remedies, before taking a closer look at the wound, trying to decide upon which manner of treatment would be best for this type of burn. He worked quickly, carefully mixing together certain mixtures, before finally placing the finished salve carefully upon the wounded flesh. He finished by wrapping the wound in a wrap dipped in another one of his concoctions, this one probally more commonly known amongst the crew. Keita's mother had introduced him to some mixtures that if placed on bandages or directly upon wounds, increased the speed of someones healing process, which he made frequent use of when out on the open sea, where every man was needed.
