I wrote this poem as a contest entry for the american library of poetry
it's going to be published into a book that comes out in december i believe
its the first sonnet ive ever written and the rhyming and tempo might be a little off

A simple child, the beach a walk away,
Blue water sparkling, glorious hot white sand,
Who'd jump the fence to stay another day,
Walk close in time with best friends hand-in-hand

Tanning face against sunburned red and pale,
Walking through water crashing 'round their feet,
On moonlit nights, leaning against the rail,
Soon sitting down to find out what to eat

With sandy legs and sea-salt-sun-bleached hair,
Skipping gait and running through the surf,
Tinkling laughs and plain chatter fills the air,
Those shuffling feet dig up the sandy turf

She treasured time upon her sandy beach,
When time was hers the stars were just in reach
