I want to learn how to cook, but I'm no good at it. Anybody have tips, easy recipies, or anything they want to share?

Help bring it back. Purple Mooing Llamas... I find making cookies is pretty easy. Especially things like sugar or peanut butter cookies (sticky though).
Tips for baking cookies: - Use a non-stick spray on the cookie sheet. - Even sprinkle a very light layer of flour on the sheet before placing the dough on it. - Near the end of baking, take the cookies out and flip them with a spatula for an overall cook. - With almost any baked good, you can stick a toothpick in the center. Pull it out and if it has some dough or mix stuck to the toothpick, put it back in the oven. It's not done yet.

Vegan banana bread!
3 ripe bananas 1/4 cup oil or melted margarine 1 cup sugar 2 cups flour 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. baking soda 1 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
• Mash bananas, add oil/margarine and sugar and mix. • Sift the flour, salt, and baking soda together and add to the banana mixture. Bake at 360°F for about 15 minutes
Sorry if the directions are a bit brief.. I just copy recipes down that way and cut out all the fluff. I also add cinnamon or pumpkin pie spices to the mixture and then sprinkle a little bit on top before baking.
As for cooking in general.. If you substitute oil or applesauce for eggs, you cut back on cholesterol and possibly calories. When baking anything, set the timer for the bare minimum. I was going to mention the toothpick thing, but Rawr beat me to it. :3
I like to make things healthier where I can. With baking, I add soy protein powder and finely ground flaxseed (which also makes things more moist), cut back on the sugar or substitute a bit of honey, use whole wheat instead of bleached, and throw in whatever sounds good. Oatmeal, raisins and blueberries are all good in banana bread. I'm sure coconut and peanut butter would be, too. Once you feel a bit more comfortable in the kitchen, you can feel free to stray from the recipe a bit.
I would suggest starting with cookies, too. I started there when I was thirteen. Well, before then I cooked a bit with my father and made pancakes solo, but I got more into it when I started on cookies. Then I moved on to omelets, breads, raw meat (before I became vegetarian), quesodillas, coffee cake... I like baking much more than cooking, even though it's far messier. sweatdrop
