Naina Julianna squinched her eyes. The sun was setting, and it was causing some massive sun rays to smack her in the face.

She shook her head, shaking the mane she'd inherited from her father around like it weighed nothing.

Her blue body she'd inherited frmo her mother, as she did with her eyes of purple and her mane of braids. Her voice was an added bonus.

She moved with such a grace.. It was like she wasnt a mare, but an illusion instead.

Stomping her hooves in the grass, to leave little prints in the sod, she smiled.

She loved the sound that stuff made when squished.

She couldnt help but stop to think of a childhood that had been robbed from her. She'd had no mother.. She'd had no siblings.. She'd had no friends.

No one knew her, she had only her father, which is why she was so stubborn and nervous around others.

Sure, she'd met her other family once.. But they hadnt liked her much.

She supposed one day she should fix that.

Yawning, Trevelyn walked along through the tall grass of the clearing, the tips of the grasses coming almost all the way up to his stomach. It was a beautiful evening, alright, but he wasn't really paying attention to the landscape, or the evening at all.

Tossing back his curls, the tan stallion looked upwards, the slight glaze on his purple eyes a clear indication of his lack of interest. No, even though he was far away and alone, he was thinking back to the cave that he called home, to his mother, Draven...and his sister. Thinking of Memory, he sighed slightly, wondering what she was up to without him. Even though they were both grown, he still felt a strong sense of protectiveness where she was concerned, and now that he was off...

"I'm sure she's fine." She HAD to be fine. She was tough. Mama and Draven were there. So why did he feel guilty about this?

Meh, independence was complicated.

The blue tinted mare shuddered. It was getting a bit chilly now that the sun had made its way behind the oh so lovely hills.

She walked from the forest, head held high, as father had taught her.
If you werent happy where you were, make others think you were.

He had taught her well. She followed every minute in life in grave detail.
She was thoughtful, and thought hard about what she was s upposed to do in a situation.

But running into her brother hadnt been on the list of things to do.

She saw the stallion. And for a second, she thought maybe it was daddy.. But he had a horn.. and daddy did not.

She knew instantly. Trevelyn..

She hoped he would be kind, she wasnt sure she could take more rudeness from anyone today..

His mind still miles away, at first it seemed as though Trevelyn would pass by the mare completely without even noticing her. But he'd been doing his best to learn from Draven since he was a foal, and now...

One ear flicked slightly, hearing the sounds of hoofbeats and the rustle of the grass; obviously he was no longer alone, and obviously that meant now wasn't a time to ponder about those absent.

Turning his head, he looked across the meadow at the new arrival, a mare with dark hair and a pale blue body. She looked rather small and insignificant, but one should never jump to conclusions based on looks alone. Until he had determined otherwise...he'd assume that she was a threat.

"Hello.."

She said softly, keeping her eyes high and her head higher.

She was determined to not let him see her as anything but his sister.. nigh threat nor foe.

She came closer, cautiously.

Carefully she watched him, keeping a safe running distance.

At the moment, though, it was pretty hard for Naina's plan to be enacted, since he saw her as neither threat, nor foe, nor sister. Potential threat, potential foe maybe, but sister...

Time had passed since their one meeting, and in that meeting he'd been more intent on JC than Naina. Now, grown to adulthood as she was, he simply didn't recognize her.

However, that didn't mean he couldn't be polite. At the greeting, he bowed his head slightly, returning her hello with one of his own. "Evening. Lovely night, isn't it?"

She nodded, stepping closer upon realizing he wasnt a threat to her safety.

She offered a soft smile, with her kind eyes as a sort of, peace offering among them. Unspoken, but still obvious.

The next words she spoke, she knew would get at him, because her french accent mixed with the ghostly echo would be obvious to her identity.

"Oui, that is is. A fair night indeed. How do you fair today, kind sir?"

We? We that it is? That sounded like a strangely convoluted statement if Trev'd ever heard one, but whatever. She might be a mare with a speech impediment, or be from an isolated region or something where they used odd fragmented grammar. Given the weird hesitancy (or so it seemed to him) of her voice, that was probably the case here.

Still, he hadn't been brought up to harp on such small, niggling details as that, and made no comment on either her weird sentence or her odd vocal inflections. It wasn't her fault, and he could understand them. Though he had to admit, he didn't understand the look she gave him. Oh well.

Straightening up, he gave the unknown mare a returning smile, acknowledging her query with politeness. "Oh, I can't complain; it's a pleasant night, the breeze is cool, and there is nothing amiss with the area. Hopefully things are going well with you, also."

She was now sure he would never come to see who she was.. She was torn between the feeling of just getting to know him as a stranger, or letting him know of their lineage.

If he found out she was his sister later, he may think her a liar and not talk to her again.. but if he found out now, and was still bitter towards her, then she had no chance..

But she puffed out her chest, giving her best brave look and spoke softly.

"Trevelyn.." She was unsure how he would react if she called him 'Trev.' She hadnt earned the honor of calling him that..

"Its Naina.. Your mother is.. my mother."

She stopped, trying to give a smile, but a s mall tear slid down her cheek.
She'd always wanted to ahve a big brother.. and this was as close as she could get..

Random as small talk could sometimes get, Trevelyn hadn't been expecting that. He hadn't been expecting to hear his name, hadn't expected to learn that the random mare he'd met was, in fact, that bratty child who had been rude to his mother, obnoxious to Draven...

Memories of their one meeting, that one day he'd met Naina and JC flashed past his mind, and his dark purple eyes flashed briefly with anger and he could feel himself getting heated, just as he always did when he thought of that horrendous meeting.

However, he managed to tamp down that anger which some effort and actually look back at the mare...Naina. Now that she had identified herself, he could suddenly see the slight resemblences; the blue color that she shared with his mother, the same black curls they all shared...she was who she said she was.

But that didn't mean that he wanted to talk to her.

"Naina." It was a greeting, an acknowledgement, everything that could possibly be stuffed into one coldly spoken word. He was still polite...but the warmth was gone. "You look like you've done well with yourself."

His words were harsh. Cold, but yet, still oh so proper..

She shook her head, casting her eyes to the sky, knowing this was bound to take longer than she wanted it to, but she knew it was the case. One could not force love on the other. Nor did she want to. She wanted him to care for her, the way she was sure he did for her sister, whose name slipped her mind.. She wasnt even sure if she'd ever been told her name.

"Time has been well on you Trevelyn, but not so much me."

Her life had been a harsh awakening of a lack of nurture love and happiness.

PostPosted: Fri Jul 06, 2007 2:08 pm

As he watched her impassively, Trevelyn was struck by the irony of the situation, the fact that he'd been offering the benefit of the doubt and being pleasant to Naina back when he'd thought she was just some random mare, but now that he knew who she was, he couldn't. Even if he wanted to, he couldn't. Not when their last meeting had played such a profound role in his life since then, by his own choice...

Still, he wasn't going to storm out. One small concession nagged at the back of his mind, that she'd been a foal, and a foal under the direct influence of Jean-Claude. How was she supposed to have any sort of positive impressions from a stallion so profoundly harsh?

That didn't mean he was ready to kiss and make up, though.

Still holding himself up straight, he watched impassively, shrugging his shoulders slightly at her somewhat melodramatic comment. "As far as the eye can see, it hasn't been that bad. You don't look gaunt nor do you look over the proper weight point. As for anything else, that's all objective, wouldn't you say?" Still cold, still impassive.

She nodded a bit, puffing up her chest with the bit of dignity and pride she had been raised to carry. She was expected to see herself in a certain light, and though this stallion was her brother, and she felt that he hated her, she wasnt going to get upset.

"Yes, I can say they are trivial matters. But I have grown away from home, away from a mother and away from siblings whom Ive dreamed of. I truly consider that of some importance and playing the role in my life."

She offered a smile

"Maybe we can talk for awhile?"
PostPosted: Fri Jul 06, 2007 3:27 pm

Now THAT was an answer Trevelyn hadn't expected. Arching a brow slightly, Trevelyn gave Naina a look that clearly said he didn't believe it. "You had a home though, Naina, with your father."

Though the whole things was stated in a matter-of-fact way, there was clear emphasis on the word 'your', accompanied by a cold glint that flashed past as he said the word. 'Your' was truly the word to describe JC; as far as Trev was concerned, he had no true father (though Draven was close). But for Naina, JC was what she knew. How could she be missing out with that?

"And unless I missed a memo, I'm pretty sure we ARE talking now. If you mean will I not run off or whatever...do I look like I'm running off?" Still, in spite of the ice in his tone, he did loosen up his posture slightly, making at least an effort. Though frankly, he didn't know what she expected to talk about.

She narrowed her eyes, giving him a slate look of a glare, but it was only because he spoke illy of her father.

Jean had only one fault, and that was he wasnt sure how to nurture.
That was it. He had tried. He had tried to be a good dad, but he had been given a rough hand. A Mare who up and left him, and two children who didnt care.

But no, that was it. She had Marahute as her mother now, and that was all she needed.

"Well we are talking now.. but shouldnt we talk about life? How we are anf how we fair?"
