Jean Claude hadnt seen his family in a long time. The only one of his family he had any right to see, had dissappeared to live with herself..

What was this 'branching off' and why did the children choose it. He gave her a good home right?

But Naina Julianna was not an ordinary mare. She had turned out so much like her mother, even through his attempts to wash Nostalgia from the filly's head.

So much for that. He shook his black mass of curls and his blue sapphire eyes shined from the sky.

He missed his family. He missed the children he'd never known.

He'd met his two others, but the first impression had been bad. He knew he'd never see them again. He had ruined all of that.

He didnt understand why the world couldnt work for him juts once.

But he shrugged it off. He couldnt sit here feeling sorry for himself. He needed to walk.. He needed to move.

So he ventured out from his cave to teh clearing below.

Being out on one's own tended to result in the formulation and expression of new ideas; when you weren't surrounded by familiarity, you tended to get out of your routine and be a bit more edgy than was normal.

Toss in there an awkward meeting or two, and you had a Soquili who had more on his mind than the average traveler.

Trevelyn was still on the move, still working on the whole 'exploring unknown territories' thing, but the past few weeks had been taking their toll on him. He missed his mother, missed Draven, missed Memory; even though he knew that Draven would be keeping them both safe, he still felt like he was doing something wrong in not being there to help protect them himself. That was the thing about danger; it wasn't schedulable, and it could strike at everyone. Draven was not immune from harm, after all...

Shaking off that idea, Trevelyn sighed and walked out into the clearing. He didn't want to think about unpleasant things; he'd done enough of that during his earlier meeting...

Frowning slightly, Trev almost missed seeing the other stallion. Even when he DID notice the other, at first he thought it was just his own reflection in some body of water. At least, that was his FIRST impression. Then he realized that the 'reflection' was vertical, not horizontal; lacked a dreamcatcher, lacked a horn, and was in general paler than he himself was...and suddenly realization hit him like a bucket of cold water.

It was HIM.

Jean wasn't sure his eyes were correct.

They'd never failed him before, but he must be seeing double. This wasnt healthy. He gave his head a shake, hoping that it was merely the heat that caused him to see himself out in the open, when he in fact was right here.

But at second glance, this stallion had a horn, and his skin was a darker shade.

The next thought he had was of his son. The one whom had looked so much like he, but had such a temper of his mother.

He had met his son once, and never truly expected to ever see him again.

He was excited at first, ready to see his son again, but the look in his sons eyes, he could even see way out here..

It was not a happy look, and he knew instantly, that this wouldnt be a greeting.. but probably a beating of words and turmoil.

But JC had promised Nostalgia one thing.. That he would no longer give his children reason to hate him. He would never fight and yell to them again..

Though it felt like an eternity, the time it took from the moment Trev first saw JC to the time that he identified him was infintisimal. However, as soon as the first shock of recognition had passed, Trev was overcome by a new feeling; sheer, burning, undisguised loathing. It snapped forth in his dark violet eyes, almost electrically charged in the brief moment that his eyes met the black ones of Jean-Claude.

But just as soon as the contact was made, it was broken as Trevelyn looked away. It wasn't worth his time to waste such strong emotion on one who was so utterly beneath his contempt, and from all he knew of JC, all he remembered from their last meeting...yes, saying that JC was beneath his contempt was putting things mildly.

He wasn't going to let this get to him, regardless. After only a moment of looking aside, Trev managed to calm himself sufficiently so that the profound loathing of moments ago became a rather banal calm, his face set and his gaze expressionless. He might be in the same clearing as JC, but he didn't have to do anything about it. JC could go his way, he could go his.

That in mind, the young stallion promptly started off again in the direction he'd been going, as though he'd never even laid eyes on JC.

Jean was confused. He wanted to see his son. Wanted to get the chance to maybe know him.. But he was nervous about the meeting.

He took a few steps forward, letting out a little call of his own, to let Trev know he'd like to speak to him.

He didnt get too close. He knew better. But he was close enough.

He was edging along the outskirts of too close, and keeping a weary eye on it.

Trev heard the call, alright, but he merely continued on. He didn't trust himself to NOT get irritated or even angry if he tried to speak to JC; even while he was busy ignoring the older stallion, Trev's jaw was clenching as he remembered their last meeting. Remembered how JC had snapped at his mother, at he and his sister...how he'd accused Draven of violence towards children, how he had made Nostalgia sorrowful...

Damn, even THINKING about it made Trev mad all over again. No, he did NOT wish to speak to this stallion, thanks much. So he stalked onwards, looking forward to seeing the end of this clearing.

Finally, JC saw that it was too much of a waste to call him, and he ran to catch up.

If the stallion fought, that was one thing.. and he could handle that.. But he needed to talk to his son.

It was imperitive and it had to be done.

He turned as he got in front of him, keeping his eyes at Trev's.

"Hello.."

He wasnt sure what else to say, and he was very nervous now.

Averting his eyes, Trev didn't let the intrusion get to him, merely changed direction. However, he'd been brought up to exercise manners in all circumstances, so...

"Good day." However, the tone was the same cold, clipped tone he'd used earlier, the sort of tone that clearly indicated he didn't feel the sentiment that was supposed to be behind his words.

But it was awfully hard to be anything but hostile when you FELT hostile.

"I know my presence makes you angry. But I was hoping we might have a discussion.. I know we are talking now.. but I'd like to get to know you better.. And Id like to know you.."

JC knew he was pushing too much too fast. But he couldnt help it. He hadnt seen any of his children, and this brisk meeting was all he could hope for.

If he let Trev get away now, he'd be away forever..
PostPosted: Sun Jul 15, 2007 1:32 pm

Narrowing his dark eyes, Trev turned his head rather abruptly to look at JC, the distaste there evident even with the cold spark that remained prominant. So, JC knew was wasn't wanted, eh? Smart guy. Then again, Trev had too much faith in his mother to assume that she'd been taken advantage of in any case; at one point, she'd actually cared for this fellow.

Though after their last meeting, Trev had no idea WHY.

"Don't flatter yourself, Jean-Claude." The name rolled off his tongue easily, albeit coldly, as the younger stallion continued to walk. "You don't make me angry, because that's giving you too much credit. I'll admit I don't wish to talk to you, though, and frankly, there's nothing for us to discuss." Nothing at all. They were two total strangers, closer to foes than anything else. Personally, he had nothing to say, and damned if he knew what JC wanted to talk about. Maybe insult Draven some more, or perhaps talk about how Nos had turned Trev against him? That sounded swell. Bah.

Nostalgia had not turned Trev against him.. Nor had she helped, but that was beside the point.

JeanClaude merely wanted to apologize.. He needed to.. and eventually he'd apologize to the stallion that made his son see him in the light he saw him in..

He'd apologize to Draven, because it was the right thing to do.. and if he ever saw Nos again, he'd apologize to ehr too.. Along with little Memory.

"Im sorry for the way I acted towards you and yours that night.. Im doing my best to make amends and start out with a fresh slate with everyone.."

An apology. ANOTHER apology. Why was it always with the apologies??

Well, technically speaking, apologies implied something. That the person giving the apology felt remorse for the way they'd acted or things they'd said (or both, as the case may be), and honestly wanted to make up for it.

At least, that was the standard definition of an apology. Exactly what an apology MEANT could vary, depending on the speaker. Or what the listener heard.

In this case, Trev didn't hear much. Words, yes, but beyond that...

You had to have some sort of willingness to believe, to listen, in order to accept an apology.

And that was why he merely snorted in response to JC's apology. "Funny how you want a fresh start now; why should you get another when you had one and botched it?"

There had been many factors that night, and Trev had not seen him as he truly was..

"There were issues going on between me and your mother, that had nothing to do with you at the time. We hadnt fully resolved our differences, and you and your sister were there.
I understand I made a negative impact on you.. But it was not intentional.. and I would take it all back."

But he knew he couldnt, he could only get acceptence.
PostPosted: Sun Jul 15, 2007 7:25 pm

"Bully for you. The only problem with THAT scenario is that you can't take things back, Jean-Claude. You say things once, you're stuck with the consequences. Congratulations." Trev all but growled that last bit, his narrowed eyes turning briefly to fix on the older stallion in annoyance. Where was the point in all of this?

"I remember very well the way you acted, the way you tried to bully an innocent mare, insulted the most thoughtful, kind, and considerate stallion anyone could ever have the privilege of knowing, and scared the hell out of MY SISTER." Each individual factor was bad enough, but that there had been all three... "Did you intentional set out to be a b*****d, or was that just a happy coincidence for you?"
