Tafasuri was lost, plain and simple. He had gone off to explore the pride lands, something he'd taken to doing rather slowly but as he and his siblings grew they became more and more independant. Of course, he would still have happily gone off with one of his siblings but today they seemed to get away without giving him time to follow. Luckily, he was becoming more and more knowlegable about his home territory but wherever he was now was not somewhere he knew. Taf wasn't too worried, but he did hope he was still within the borders. Perhaps he could find some help.

"Hmm, none of this looks familiar," he murmured to himself as he hopped around looking for a landmark he might recognize, "If I could find that funny rock again, then I'd only have to turn that way and keep going.." The cheeton kept his eyes opened and had no problem talking to himself as he looked. There was still plenty of time left in the day, there was no need to rush with the sun so high and the day so clear.

Daydreaming and exploring, Nurisha was wandering the borders of her world, the only world she'd yet known - the pridal lands of the Kusini'Mwezi. Muddy water had stained her paws as she bounded along quite happily. Following her passing fancies...walking the way a cool breeze blew or going to inspect the way the dappled shadows and light danced beneath a tree...

Her own siblings were scattered about. She loved them with a siblings love and loved to chase with Umbia, and sleep all piled up with all her sisters...but Nurisha was a bit distant by nature. Hence why she was alone on this fine day. Though not for long. She stopped in what seemed to her to be an interesting spot, looking at the scattered rocks that stuck up out of the grass when she heard a voice. Curiously, she spoke up, though she had yet to see whatever creature was talking.

"All the rocks look a bit funny. What's special about the one you're looking for?"

"Well, it's got this crack in the side and it points towar-" Tafasuri started to answer without realizing he didn't have anyone with to talk to, then stopped walking and looked around. He couldn't see anyone right away, and had to wonder if he was hearing things or something- but someone had to be there, his imagination wasn't that good!

"Who's there?" he called, leaning back onto his back legs and standing up to try to get a better look around.

"I'll come out."

She ambled out of the grass after a short time of trial and error in finding the speaker. It mainly involved walking in a strange sort of pattern and trying to actually use her senses to locate him like a clever cub. However it was mainly luck when she almost bumped into him.

Nurisha smiled sweetly enough, but she seemed a bit pre-occupied. Her curiousity had already waned...it was just another cub. Albeit bigger and male, but then her father was bigger and male so that was nothing new. Nothing exciting. Nothing to roar home about.

"Ok," he mumbled, and kept his eyes open to watch for the source of the voice to appear. He wasn't too surprised by the cub that nearly bumped into him, and was soon back on all fours. Interesting, he wasn't so far away that he couldn't find anybody- that was a good start to figuring out where exactly he was.

"Hello! Who're you?" Taf asked curiously.

"Everyone calls me Nu. Short for Nurisha." - Shine light upon her! Inwardly, the cub rolled her eyes at her own name. Ever since she had found out what it meant she'd always felt it was somewhat absurd. The sun rose and fell. Even if those who met her did wish light shone on her, nothing would change the way the sun moved... besides, what was so great about light? (Nu was young enough to be cynical but too young to realise that that there were such things as metaphors). Another reason for her to look a bit pre-occupied...she was pondering this who 'light' business again.

"Who're you?"

"Nu," he repeated after her, liking the simplicity of the nickname and noting that now he knew another creature with a name beginning with N. It seemed like a popular starting letter, but he mostly figure that since two siblings and an aunt of his had names like that.

"I'm Tafasuri," he intorduced himself with a proud grin, "It's a whole muddle of other names, y'can call me Taf for short though." Tafasuri didn't really have much appreciation for his name, having met none of those he was supposedly named after.

"How's it a muddle of names?" That got her attention, and she turned her pale eyes back to Tafasuri with an inquisitive smile. Nurisha liked names, even if she found her own silly. Some of her favourite early memories involved parental pride when she learnt their names, her siblings names and with time the names for other things...'rock', 'tree', 'sun', 'lion' and so on.

Tafasuri remembered very well when he'd been asking about the names of him and his brothers and sister. His name was the strangest one, of course, since it didn't really mean anything.

"I'm named after some other members of my dad's family, and my mom's," he explained, taking a seat in the grass and nodding matter-of-factly. His name was the only name that his parents had planned, and he got it since he was the oldest.

"So are they all called Tafasuri then...?" She didn't understand that it was made up of elements from other names. Likewise, she sat down. Names were amusing things...unlike 'trees' meaning 'trees', an animals name rarely just meant that animal. Like, she was a 'lion' but her name was Nurisha, which din't just mean 'lion...why was that? That was another question.

"I'm not named after anyone else I know of. Mines just a wish or something."

"No, I'm named after my dad's brother, Tafari, and my mom's.. um, Uri and their friend who has a really long name that begins with S," he explained carefully, making sure he didn't forget anybody, "How is your name a wish? It doesn't sound like it to me." Taf had no idea what her name might mean, he hardly remembered what his siblings' names meant.

"It means 'shine light upon her' but I have no idea why they'd want that for me. Or what good it can be doing me. It's a silly name." Nu wrinkled her nose a moment. Stupid name. All poetic but actually just useless. Tafasuri had a much better, more practical name.

"Your name is good. Must make them all happy for you to have bits of their names."

"Shine light upon her?" Taf repeated, wrinkling his nose as he considered the meaning of her name. He thought about what he knew about his siblings' name, it almost seemed like a better name than some of theirs. "I don't think it's that silly a name, Nu. My brothers have stranger names, Mhuni's is.. um.. a strange word I don't really know and Najisi's name means dirt. Penny's name is the best of theirs, it's 'I love you.'"

He nodded matter of factly. It seemed, based on this little conversation, that girls got the nicer names.

"That's really different....naming one dirt and one I love you. But they sound like okay names." She paused, thinking, trying to see if she could work out the meaning of Mhuni. But all it sounded like to her was 'mmmhoney', the sticky yummy stuff she'd got her nose stung for eating once. Huh.

"I'm sure mom and dad had their reasons, Najisi is really dark- like my tail, kinda," he explained, drawing his tail around him and wiggling it a little to demonstrate the color, "That could have something to do with it. All our names are pretty different. Do you have any brothers and sisters?"
