"Isn't it interesting?" came the low, gutteral pur of a black and white leopardess. Her head was cocked lightly, green eyes gazing over a leaf which hung gently in front of her nose. A small, sly smile parted her face and left her seeming a bit suspicious.

Rain had fallen recently in the jungle, and now its memories traced the forest everywhere you looked. A few bits of water fell lightly onto Tayhira's nose, and she brok her concentration for a moment to look into the foliage above. She could just barely make out a greyed sky through the thick branches, but she knew it would not be clear just yet.

Funny how everyone fled the rain. Into burrows, trees, nests. It really didn't matter who you were. There was that common knowledge that wet and cold meant starvation and death. Yet, there was also an inkling that this rain brought food - if you lived through it. So everybody took cover, including herself.

There were times when she thought to brave such events. To trapse out into the worst of the storms and sit laughing, watching her feet soak up brown goo. However, whatever wit she had left kept her from such fantasies, so she hid and waited; like the others.

Rising from her veined friend, she pattered down the extent of her dry limb to get a better view of the ground. The furries and the feathered would come out soon, and they were an intriguing bunch to watch. For a good long moment she pondered visiting a few old 'friends', but decided the treck would be long and she felt like being lazy. It was a cats life after the rains, why not take advantage of it?

Kafiri did not like storms, especially when the rain was accompanied by thunder and lightning. But, of course, her least favorite part of such storms was that her family generally was stuck together until it stopped- at least, those of the cubs who would not brave the stormy jungle alone. Now that the rain had stopped, though, Kafiri was eager to get away and be by herself for a little bit- it seemed that her dislike of the rain annoyed her mother, but then it seemed that everything did.

So she walked along through the trees, heading for her own little hideout-den to see how it had fared through the storm. Kafiri was totally oblivious to anyone and everything around her as she went.

Settling down on the large tree branch, Tayhira let her eyes scour the surrounding area. It took her no more than a few passes before the figure of a rather . . . blunt looking creature reached her eyes. The cub was clearly a mixed breed. Very odd in appearance.

Someone so bright wasn't well camoflauged in this canopy. It might stumble on something unfriendly.

A small smile parted her lips, showing a wide array of perfectly formed teeth.

"Hello down there," she cooed lightly, hiding any threat she might be for the creature.

Kafiri might have been ignoring most everything around her, but the distinctive sound of someone speaking stood out and caught her attention. She slowed down and looked upward almost immediately, curious about the source of the voice. It wasn't hard to tell from the ground that it was a leopard up there, and she looked almost like a blurry version of Matojo- or if mother was black instead of brown.

The question was- were they a friendly leopard like Aunt Ajali, or a.. not-so-friendly leopard like mother?

"Hello," she replied, calling out louder than she might normally have done when faced with a family member. A subconscious wish that her species might be mistaken for whole leopard caused her to adjust her behaviour and posture. With strangers, unlike with family, there was always some hope of ignorance and thus easier acceptance.

Tayhira took the opportunity to leave her perch and saunter down to the base of the tree, gracefully reaching the bottom in leaps and bounds. She doubted a cub would be alarmed by such activity, in her experience they were excited to see such newcomers. Unfortunately, some were also much smaller.

In any case, she hoped this animal was indeed mostly leapard. Even if they hated you, they'd still talk to you, even in that slick tone. Lions would just get angry, defensive, vicious even. Murderous fiends, and they didn't even know how to do it correctly.

"What's a brightly colored cub such as yourself doing trapsing around these woods," she clicked, sidling up to the other animal, but not too close. Some distance was necessary, for both their sakes. "Surely you can't be up to any good?"

Kafiri kept wide silvery eyes on the leopardess as she descended from the tree, trying to pay attention to how she did it, how she might have gotten up there, anything that might help the little leopon figure out how to do such things herself. Since the game with her brothers, she was a little more keen on learning to climb trees instead of just wandering around. While inexperienced with strangers, Kafiri knew better than to get too close to one too quickly.

"I was just taking a walk," Kafiri lied, certainly not about to tell a stranger she had her own little hideout, "The storm interrupted me. What about you?" Kafiri was not entirely concerned with being polite, but figured if she could be accused of being up to no good then she could ask why she was around.
