As you can see, the normal picture available to us.

Now, a stretched picture (sorry if this inflicts your view of the thread in anyways, aka page stretching).
As Edmund drinks his tea while reading a book, he seems to be alerted to a presence. Since he appears to be a military man with an unknown past... and since this "Gaia Universe" is a slightly more enhanced compared to our own... it can be deduced that he may have a "six sense" which he may have learned from his "previous job". He knows of the snipers presence and immediately flees his chair.
Up in the air in the in the second to last screen, you can see 1. the book he was reading 2. his tea cup and 3. his falling back chair.
There is no Edmund in the picture. At all. It appears the snipers shot missed unless Edmund went to the left where the trail leads, though it is highly unlikely.
The tea cup spilling in the end may only have been put there for dramatic effect, or to tease you into thinking that Edmund was really shot.
That's my view on it, and I really don't think Edmund was shot "Yet" with the amount of information we have right now.
