North. His heart was pulled towards the colder climes, and he had no clue as to why. All he knew was that he had to go. Alexander hadn't questioned him; his alpha never did. But there had been a sad kind of light in the blue one's eyes, and Deimos knew that the same light had been in his own.

He didn't want to leave his friend again. But one of them had to stay in the pack lands, at least for now. Being a new pack, none of them had had much time to stake a proper claim on the land.

Besides, he would be back. Nothing could keep him from his new family. Especially not from Kekarn. Yes, Deimos loved Alexander, but he wasn't sure if it was a love that was different than that between brothers. With Kekarn, it was different. He had always felt a pull towards the purple wolf, and wondered if the feelings were the same.

But his knowledge of such things was new, and he was still young. Best not tread on virgin ground.

Yet.

So, now his paws touched cooler ground instead, and leaves that crunched with a morning frost. It was warm and comfortable at home, but here the chill of autumn was already upon the land. He hadn't paid much attention to where or how far he had gone, and now he wondered.

Midday found him quenching his thirst by a river, his nose searching for scents. He hadn't found any thus far, and it confused him. Did no one live here?

Red stained white, puddled of red around the forgotten limb of the misled doe. Ehrek had finally gotten to a small herd under the command of a single male. Luckily, he had gotten one of the younger females to stray from the pack and straight to his maw. For a while now, he had horrid luck hunting for himself otherwise he would have scavenged. A good portion of the doe had already been devoured and put to good use. Only a single leg remained, placed in blood soaked snow.

With a heavy sigh, the charcoal blue wolf remained still in his patch of matted snow. It had been so long since he had some good food himself, but it seemed like a waste, the leg was still left however he was too full to finish. It was strange, starved for so long and yet he could not bare to take another bite. The blue wolf's body was finally filling out again after having appearing as a skeleton not too long ago. He had a choice to make now. It was between burying the rest for another meal or leave it alone for a scavenger to pick up.

Golden eyes glanced up the sky at the softly drifting snow falling down to the earth, covering the ground in the cold blanket. Snow, it was always here in the North. North, the place where he was beginning to think of his home. After escaping the southern regions when he was a cub, he grew up here. Alone. When was it time for him to finally able not to be? His heart was what he was afraid of-no, what others may be. Who would ever accept him the way he was? Choices, life was full of them. Ehrek had to keep his true self hidden, lying perhaps... But how long could he masquerade as a regular wolf? It was worth a shot if he could be around others for longer than a few days. The choice will be made when the time was for it to be made.

Yawning, he rolled onto his back, keeping the leg in his perifial vision. He just needed to digest a little, then he could eat it later.

Another few hours of wandering, and snow coated the ground, a few lone flakes tossed by the wind landing to speckle his fur. The wind carried another gift as well.

The scent of blood. Something had died not to far from where he trod, and he angled his body towards this new goal, his stomach rumbling heartily. But he didn't know if the land he walked upon belonged to a pack or not, and wandering into the midst of their kill was not a good idea.

Lifting his nose to the sky, he let out long, melodious howl, a welcoming sound that would announce to any that he was not threatening, and simply passing through.

It was when he dropped his head again that he caught scent of another wolf, but only one. Was it a loner? If so, than his chances of a free meal could have either fallen or risen.

It depended on the loner.

Blood, that was all he can smell through his blood soaked muzzle. He lifted his head a bit more, his ears flat against his skull. Another scent. Another scent was among the blood beside his own, it was faint but he can still pick it out. His head move around swaying left to right like a snake staring down its other.

A pause.

Ehrek felt a strange whirr of the air around him as an object was in the wind's path. It touched it awkwardly, very noticeable. His charcoal fur stood out clearly in the pure white snow, but it was a mere spot in the circle of blood. His golden eyes slowly moved around until it looked toward the direction of the scent. His eyes were a bit blurry, no reason why. He could not see this other, no, his eyes were still red from all the blood around him. Needed time to adjust to the reality.

"Who is there?" he called out, questioningly. He raised to his feet and his posture was a clear sign of himself. His head was just at shoulder level, his tail falling a bit and his ears against his head. He did not know what to expect of this new presence and his excited fur gave proof of that. His posture was sub-submissive, his fur showed defensiveness, and the tip of his tail was pointed up a bit signalling play. His body message was a mess.

Deimos appeared as though a ghost, the swirling of snow picked up by the wind hiding him until he was merely a dozen feet from Ehrek and what was left of his kill.

His posture was all alpha, though relaxed; it was something that came natural to him, because it felt unnatural for his tail to droop, or for his head to remain at level with his shoulders. He didn't do it to anger anyone, because it was something he rarely paid attention to.

After all, at home, it fit.

Upon seeing Ehrek, he paused, ice blue eyes widening. The creature before him was utterly beautiful, with colors he had never seen on a wolf before. The other male looked like the night sky had captured the blues of the northern lights, and morphed into a wolf. No matter that the wolf seemed to be very confused as to what he was feeling at the moment, if his posture was anything to go by.

Tail suddenly wagging, Deimos sat on his haunches with a grin curving his maw. "Soothe, friend. My name's Deimos, and I'm mostly harmless."

Ehrek smirked as he too fell down to his haunches, tail flicking and then 'dying' beside him. This other wolf looked different than those he had seen before, at least here in the North. Most of them just had hues to their fur but this one... it had spots like... like, he could not recall the creature in which shared the same design but he knew it was another predator. His fur was like a fire, burning brightly with life. However, what caught his attention more was the strange design on this stranger's leg, it was unique to him. Ehrek caught himself staring at it before snapping back to reality. His ears fell back and he gave a nervous smile. "Forgive me for staring..."

Collecting himself, "Mostly harmless? Is that suppose comfort me into becoming defenseless in your presence, Deimos?" he smiled. "I am known as Ehrek, you may call me what you want, I am just another vagabond here."

He found himself too wagging, perhaps it was because he had someone there with him to talk to. Someone to get warmer from, body heat was necessary here otherwise it is just your own heat to survive on. Deimos looked so strong... his posture reminded him of his father's, at least how he always saw him back home when he had one. His head was high and his tail was flagging, it signaled something of high rank if he could recall correctly. His mind was reeling with thoughts of how a pack was, how one could identify another by their posture alone, how one could communicate to another by the way they growled or moved... he did not learn it all but he had a bit of the gist.

"What brings you here, Deimos? The way you hold yourself... I would assume you are not a lone wolf. Either that, you are the dominant sort..."

Following Ehrek's gaze to his foreleg, Deimos pondered the symbols himself. Deep down, he knew they held a meaning, but what it was, he hadn't the faintest.

Then he looked up again and grinned. "Yes, mostly harmless. I tend to bite on occasion," he replied, eyes bright and teasing. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Ehrek." He held the name on his tongue, liking the way it sounded. At the other male's question, he grew thoughtful.

"Actually, I don't know why I'm here. My heart just . . . told me to go north."

Cocking his head to one side, the alpha shuffled a step closer, his paws shifting. His fur was accustomed to the warmer climes of home, and he was cold. Not only that, but the scent of blood was making his mouth water.

Suddenly, he was on his feet, unable to stay away from the loner. His natural instincts kicked in and he sniffed the air, inhaling Ehrek's unique, somewhat musky scent. His tailed wagged again without him realizing. "Do you have anything to eat?"

Ehrek watched all of his movements very close, his glance down to his leg, his smile, his eyes... the more he paid attention the more he actually paid attention. He noticed a lot of things about Deimos, especially those eyes of his... strong and soulful. It was when he started to talk that he snapped free again from his daze. "Bite me all you want, just don't kill me," he chuckled coyly. "And the pleasure is ours both."

"Your heart drove you here? That is interesting...." Interesting indeed. His heart was different at least to Ehrek. It was nothing but trouble and his own problem, the reason why he was alone and perhaps the reason why he is a lone wolf. Being attracted to males, refusing the 'natural instinct' of a male to carry on his line through a female, he was a disgrace it seemed... But, he found no interest in females, they just did not catch his attention as some of the males he had met. Strong, powerful, kind... He had no intention of having cubs, the pain it is to bear when losing one would be too great, he knew it would be, it was best to watch another's grow and be a part of its life. Perhaps... he was looking at things wrong. He just had to live through what his life threw at him. But if he needed to be in a pack, he would have to do what he must to be in a structured enviorment . That way, he won't have to starve. Best to push those thoughts aside.

It was when the male moved closer did the charcoal blue wolf stir. His tail came back to life, wagging a bit in the snow and his golden eyes fixed on Deimos'. Instinct, the innate behavior that is never done wrong. Nose flaring, he pulled in Deimos' musky scent, a scent that most males (of the animal kingdom) released. It, like him, was strong. He scoffed, "Of course, over there. I... I couldn't bring myself to eat it just yet. I thought I should digest some before finishing it, however, since you are here, why not you have it."

The big male paused at Ehrek's teasing, his words reminding him of Kekarn. Did that mean . . . ? He glanced at Ehrek again, reevaluating the other male's little looks. Was Ehrek like him?

Eying the sexy male with his blue, blue eyes, he clipped his teeth together playfully. "Where and how hard?"

Dipping his head in thanks, he moved towards the remains of the kill, digging in heartily. He suddenly realized that he hadn't eaten in days, and his stomach roared almost painfully as his teeth ripped at the nearly frozen flesh.

Not only that, but the adrenaline that had driven him this far this fast was fast wearing off. He yawned in the middle of swallowing and nearly chocked. If he could blush, his muzzle would have burned bright red.
PostPosted: Sat Jul 07, 2007 1:11 am

Ehrek smiled as the male went for the food after speaking. "Well, I suppose that is up to you. I have no real preference. Just know that I will have to defend myself if you did bite me."

Ehrek moved a bit closer to the male, his musk seem so... alluring like drawing a female... The young wolf slapped a paw to his muzzle swiftly in embarrassment when Deimos was busying himself with the kill. Jeez... I feel like a female now... getting closer to his musk... Can't really help it. His golden eye cocked a bit when he noticed how this one was wolfing down the food as if he were starved as well. If anyone, Ehrek should be the one starving. After all, he was the lone wolf here. He looked back at Deimos and murred.

"Deimos, are you part of a pack? You seem very hungry..." he questioned. "If you were with a pack, you should be well fed, right? I mean, that is what the pack does, right? Feed one another and the like?"

Luckily, if Ehrek had blushed his fur would just turn a slight purple color where the blue once was and his darker grey would turn a bit of a deep red. His tail wagged, just slower than before as he tried to calm himself from getting too excited.

Thinking about his pack made his tail wag happily, but he took another bite before glancing over his shoulder at the charcoal male. "My pack takes care of one another, but I've been gone a few days. I was too busy focusing on getting here that I never noticed I was hungry." He shook his head at himself, than grabbed one last mouthful before stepping away.

Surprisingly, he was full, but than again, he had never been used to a lot of food to begin with. His puppyhood had been filled with bugs, squirrels, and scrawny rabbits.

Happy and full, he padded over to Ehrek and nuzzled him in thanks, nipping at his ear. It was something he did frequently with Alexander and Kekarn, and being who he was, Deimos thought it was natural.

"Thank you for dinner," he murmured, licking the taste from his chops. A yawn interrupted. He glanced at the sky, disappointed. The alpha needed to sleep, but he didn't want to leave Ehrek just yet, yet didn't want to intrude and ask if he had a place to sleep.

Stepping back a bit, he asked a question of his own. "Do you roam alone, northern lights?" The name fell from his tongue before he could stop it, and he flattened his ears in embarrassment. The big male couldn't help it. Ehrek's fur just looked so pretty.
PostPosted: Sat Jul 07, 2007 6:05 pm

"So you are from a pack, I would figured as much. A lone wolf is a dead wolf if alone for too long, no?" he questioned as his eyes watched the male. It was when he nuzzled and nipped in thanks did he got something caught in his throat, preventing him from answering. His fur turned a deep red-purple color as did so. Never had another male do that before... but it was out of thanks, right? Yes, it was out of thanks, it was nothing like affec-

"Yeah!" he yipped in excitement to Deimos' thanks, just a bit lagged from the 'thanks' before. He cleared his throat and nodded, "Yeah."

Deeper his blush grew when he was called a new name... "Northern Lights", the name... was he referring Ehrek to the Northern Lights? The dancing lights in the sky that frequented the north very often? His golden eyes picked at the ears of the male as it had fallen back down. He was embarrassed. Sudden, he could feel his body twitch and shiver for a split second. This feeling was strange, unwelcomed but welcomed, it was difficult to explain but it was an okay feeling.

"Y-yeah, I-I-I'm a-alone out h-here," 'Northen Lights' stuttered as he stood there. "I-I'm a v-v-vagabond after all, I j-just sleep anywh-e-ere."

Oh, that was just wrong... how could I possibly mess up anymore!?

Vagabond? He'd never heard that term before. Was it the same as a loner? Cocking his head to the side, the big male blinked. He wanted to ask how long Ehrek had been alone, but a sudden, intense shiver racked his body, making his claws dig into the snow.

"Ehrek . . . From past experience, sleeping alone is cold, no matter how accustomed to the weather one is." Glancing at the sky, he than looked at the charcoal and blue male with a soft smile. "Know of any good places to sleep?"

It wasn't dark yet, but it would be very soon. And if he wanted to be completely honest with himself, he not only wanted a warm body to curl up next to, but he also definitely wanted it to be Ehrek. When he realized this, his heart told him that this lean, blue ringed male was what had drawn him from his home.

But now what was he supposed to do?
PostPosted: Sat Jul 07, 2007 11:56 pm

"I have stayed with a few others but I left shortly after waking the next morning. I did not want to burden them with another maw to feed," he replied as he rose up. His ear flicked feeling a bit irritated with Deimos' tone. Perhaps, irritated was not the right word but it made him uneasy. Sleeping alone was indeed cold, even in shelter it was difficult to. He usually found abandoned places to seek shelter like dug up burrow from under a tree, the roots retaining the structure or a cave of some sort.

Vagabond... he had always used that word, usually never said 'loner' or anything to that affect. "Vagabond... is a person without a home. I've lost mine too long ago and I never bothered to find a new one, I already have it hard enough surviving. That upon protecting a secure place for myself, I would sooner die. But I do use this territory as my own, I suppose, but I would not call it a home." Territory, a place meant for one's use of resources in the area, shelter, and possibly a place to raise/protect their young. For Ehrek, it was most of that; food and shelter. But having another in one's territory is still risky. Could he trust Deimos into "his" territory? What if it were just a ploy to mug him of his place, the only thing he had left beside himself. But... Deimos was the only male thus far to actually open up slightly. Besides, he was nice too, his scent was alluring and he was knowledgeable in some things. Sleeping alone would indeed be cold, perhaps another body would be nice to have again but how long it will last, no one knows.

"There is a tree not too far from here that I had spent the night at. A badger once burrowed under it I believe, it goes under the tree and it keeps the heat in. Do you wish to stay there?"

Ehrek's muzzle pointed in the direction, looking away from Deimos. His ears flicked and then moved down to his skull as his eyes fell. Thinking about some things that could happen with this male, he whispered softly, ("I... just don't want to get hurt...")

Grinning madly at the thought of warmth, the alpha nodded enthusiastically. But than he saw Ehrek's gaze fall, and his ears press against his skull.

Now he felt bad. How could he have assumed that this male would want to share his den with him? Deimos was a stranger, someone not to be trusted yet, and here he was, barging right in. Taking a step back, he dipped his head in apology.

"Ehrek, I'm sorry. I've intruded enough. If you want me to leave . . . "

But he didn't want to. Not yet . . .
