It was not a particularly sunny or even bright day, but it was a day, and that meant it was the perfect time to be outside and playing. The skies above were that light gray shade of overcast that hinted somewhere in the world it was raining, just not anywhere around here. The clouds would darken just enough to suggest the idea of rain and no more, like a vast, unfulfilled promise to the grass and the trees and all the growing things that depended on the rain to give them life. The air was muggy and thick with the morning sun's residual heat, the breeze faintly cooling, and the humidity of the situation made it faintly uncomfortable. In short, it was the most typical kind of overcast day in summer.

Most people under these conditions chose to be inside, but there was no real reason not to go out of doors with the rain being a lie at best. Out in the soccer field of the Liberty Center, two men were kicking about a ball, more showing off than actual playing. One sent the ball up into the air and caught it on his knee, bouncing it there twice before kicking it across to the other, who head-butted it back. Fancy tricks and maneuvers to waste a bit of time. A perfect way to waste one of the tediously lazy days of summer.

"Of all things, why did she choose soccer?" complained one disgruntled twin as he and his counterpart trudged over the grass to get to the field. Their energetic charge had raced ahead, since they apparently were way to slow for the likes of her. Though while Mikael seemed grumpy at the idea of having to be out in this weather and playing with a little kid, Runeh was quite the opposite. Well, he was amused anyway.

"Just afraid I'm going to kick your a**, little brother?" he asked with a very false, sweet smile.

He always knew how to get Mikael's blood pumping. "You wish!" he replied sharply, making a rude gesture before picking up the pace and jogging to meet Riley.

The little sparrow girl had stopped at the site of someone already occupying the field. It wasn't because she had a sense of privacy, no. It was due to the fact that she was staring as they did tricks that she hadn't seen before, since her brothers had only bothered to teach her the basics at this point. "WOW!" she blurted with a wide, excited grin, "That's so cool!"

The man with the ball kicked it up high into the air, ridiculously high, and turned towards Riley. He had long ears, as long as hers, but not feathered. His hair was a rich golden shade.

Without even looking up, the man held out his hand and caught the ball perfectly. He grinned. At this display of riduculous skill, his fairer-haired companion doubled over with merry laughter. "Feyu!" said the companion, "that's not fair!"

"Are we in your way?" asked the first elf, Feyu, spinning the soccer ball on the tip of his finger one-handed.

"I know you're a pig, Mikael, but I dont' believe even you need the whole field?" Runeh teased with an innocent smile that didn't quite match his face. He leaned against his stockier twin lazily, looking over the two strangers with mild interest. Elves? He met anyone of that race in a while. This might be interesting.

Mikael didn't seem to share his sentiments. Guys rarely interested him in the slightest, and that included pretty-boy elves. "Nah, we're just here to entertain the shrimp," he scoffed indifferently.

Perhaps "entertain" wasn't the right word, because Riley seemed to be taking care of herself pretty well in that area. It seemed, after observing Feyu's trick, she had become quite determined to mimic it. Of course, spinning a huge soccer ball on one's finger was never what it appeared. With each clumsy failure her brows furrowed and she tried again with ruffled tail feathers, "Mmm!"

"Oh, Feyu, stoppit!" exclaimed the second elf, jogging over. He was even smaller up close than he looked from afar, and the incongruously heavy coat he was wearing made him appear all the more tiny. He had a very light voice. To Riley he said, "He is not playing fair."

"Oy, Orlu," groaned Feyu, halting the ball suddenly. It sat there, still balancing on his fingertip, frozen. The golden-haired elf sighed heavily and rolled the soccer ball down into his hand, resting it against his hip. To justify his cheating he said, "I can do it perfectly fine without any spells. I just didn't feel like it."

Riley paused to look at them, a skeptical look in her silver eyes. Spells...? Her eyes narrowed a little and a look of childish disapproval swept over her face. She pointed a finger at Feyu, which was of course very rude, and said flatly, "What's the point of doing something if you aren't really doing it?" Wierdo. But the stubborn little girl wasn't shaken by his falsehood. Instead she seemed even more determined to perform the trick. She tried again to spin it upon her index finger, swaying in an attempt to keep it balanced.

"You want to do a trick? Give it to me," Mikael grumbled, seeming annoyed at watching her hopeless attempts.

"Ohhh, I'm sure this'll be fun to watch," Runeh smiled. "When was the last time you played, Mikael? 6 years?"

"The trick is to get good rotation," supplied Feyu. He rolled his eyes. "And I wouldn't cheat in a game"

Orlu started laughing. Feyu glared at him. The laughter quickly reduced to a small chuckle and a knowing smile. "Feodor has cheated for as long as I have known him, and I have known him his entire life."

At that verbal wounding, Feodor mimed being stabbed in the chest, took two steps back, tossed the ball so it rolled towards Mikael, and mockingly collapsed to the ground. "I'm dead," he announced. He lifted his head up a few inches. "Orriole, you killed me."

"Sounds like someone I know," Mikael growled with a grin, kicking the ball that Feodor had surrendered at his twin. It wasn't a bad shot, going righ for the head. Runeh, however, had very quick reflexes and dodged it. He only smiled innocently, as if he had no idea what his younger sibling was talking about.

"A true cheat isn't known to be one," he replied with a chuckle. "Perhaps you need more practice, Feordor is it?" It was impossible to tell if he was being sarcastic or serious. Either way, it was interesting conversation.

Riley, however, was still preocuppied. She was getting a little better...the more she tried, the longer she could keep the ball up. She was up to, what, four seconds now? Then it would flop off and she'd have to start again. "Humph! The guys on TV make it look easy."

Feodor bounced to his feet smoothly, extending his hand to Runeh. "Feodor Arschev." As usual, he mentally crossed his fingers that neither of the twins had any working knowledge of German. The only reason he kept the name was because it so greatly annoyed his father. "And this is Orriole."

"Al-spa hal'bho," said Orriole, vaguely distracted. It was clearly some sort of elven greeting. He smiled at the twins but watched Riley in quiet appraisal, his orange eyes locked in secret deliberation.

Runeh had a knowing glint in his eye upon hearing the name, but he made no comment upon it. It was always impossible to tell what the more clever of the two twins was thinking. "I'm Runeh Ta'rish'e, and this is my brother Mikael," he said smoothly, offering his crooked smile. "And that dear is Riley, our little sister."

Mikael gruntled in awknowledgement, obviously completely oblvious to anything that Runeh might have picked up. Instead he offered a grin and suggested, "How about a game, mm? Two on three? You can take the squirt if you like, or she can be on our team. Whadda say?"

Riley pulled the ball under one arm so both her hands were free. She stuck a thumb in each "ear" and stuck out her tongue at Mikael, "Trying to get rid of me?"

Feodor put his hands on his hips. "I think the proper thing to do is let the lady pick." He winked at Riley. "So what'll it be? Those two scalawags or us two gentlemen?" He jabbed his thumb at Orriole, who seemed to have shifted his attention to the clouds above and drifted off in thought.

Mikael tried to contain himself, he really did, but he was forced to burst out laughing within moments. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry but you couldn't call her a lady if you tried!" he gasped, taking a tight grip on Runeh's arm as he leaned over to support himself in his histerics.

Which made it obvious what side Riley was going to choose. Not because she wanted to be a lady, because that was stupid and boring. But because she wanted to beat the twins for once. "We're going to kick your butts!" she proclaimed boldly as she pointed a finger at Runeh and Mikael, jumping to stand near Feodor and Orriole.

Feodor slapped his fist into his palm. "Excellent," he rumbled. "How about a simple goal-score challenge of maneuverability? First team to ten goals wins? Or should we make it a little easier on you guys and make it fifteen? Just to give you a chance to score some yourselves."

"Ah?" said Orriole quite suddenly, looking away from the sky. He really had stopped paying attention. He looked at Feodor and the twins in total bewilderment.

"Ten's fine," Runeh said with a small smile that really didn't look right on his scared face. "No magic, of course." He had a knowing look in his eye which suggested that he was not ignorant in that area. Mikael, on the other hand, could care less. He grinned, giving a mock salute, "Mind you don't trip over the shrimp!"

"I could trip you on purpose if you want!" Riley said in an equally sportsmen like attitude. She knew the twins were better then her, but...she had a team now! Now she could face them properly!

"That's the spirit!" said Feodor, "Though, if I might, before we begin..." He wiggled out his fingers and held them in front of his chest. He cleared his throat and mumbled a few words under his breath. There was a sparkly golden light, Feodor seemed to turn gold and green, and a moment later Feodor's clothes were replaced by a soccer uniform -- Russian National Team away colors. Orriole started cracking up with laughter. Little golden sparkles continued to split through the air for a brief moment after the spell's completion.
