Though, you must remember that alchemy in real life is nothing like how it is in FMA.... sweatdrop

yeah...Alchemy in real life is just like chemistry...Eccept for a few differences...But mostly theres a bunch of odd looking devices and Alot of flasks...I've dabbled in it...and successfully have removed salt from your avarage sea water...*shivers* it was all green too.. gonk

OK, "Alchemy" in real life is the forebearer of Chemistry. Originally, Alchemy was the science of turning Lead into Gold(never happened). BUT, in the search for this answer many methods we use today were created.
Ed, you said you desalinized water right? That's a process that was used once in Alchemy. It's known as de-salinization, or Distillation. By Heating the water in a special tube, the water evaporates and recondenses inside the tube where it flows down into a beaker. The salt, which is heavier then the water, remains in the original bowl.

I've tried before! What happened is I was playing manhunt and I was backed into a corner so I traced my transmutation circle on the wall behind me. Of course nothing happened but it would have been really cool if something did!

yeah I know that...but I used the Alchemic technique in doing so..Hell I've done more studying then actuall labwork....Oh BTW a Tomato has trace elements of Silver in it...but dont go think "woot woot I'm rich"cause you'd have extract it from countless Tomatos just to make a Gram of silver.

i have never tryed alchemy but i have done enough reserch that if it was real i could pull it off but i have not tryed it yet

What have you researched? Chemical make up? Compounds? Combustive qualities of dense materials?
No offense, but just because two boys were able to do it doesn't mean any of us could. It'd take many years of study, not just what you pick up from magazines and a few articles or even books.
PS: Sorry if I sound like a snob/know-it-all/etc. It's just that I take Sciences a little too seriosuly(plus, after playing too many FPS where 12 year olds brag about their l33t skillz, I've learned that what people say and what they can do are two different things entirely). ^^;;

Heh, a few times. When I get bored I start drawing big transmutation circles on the ground. I always know it doesn't work, but hey, I'm locked outside sometimes and I'd rather be indoors drawing and typing. >_> (Alchemy doesn't suit my life completely. Alchemy is for the intelligent and gifted, and my life says I'm neither. So, I will become an artist instead of an alchemist. Enough said.)

Er... technically I guess I have. I've "transmuted" a copper penny into a "gold" penny. sweatdrop
It was actually very fun! 3nodding
As far as transmutation circles go, I've drawn them everywhere and they don't seem to work. XD Though, I will continue to convince myself that I've binded a soul to my school folder.

Chouzan you did that copper penny into a brass penny thing too? 3nodding
Waht my class did was we took zinc powder and soaked it into a solution. We then heated our copper pennies to a point where it began to melt, and then stuck it into the solution. The heat was extinguished using the zinc solution and the zinc bonded with the copper - creating a brass coating. Fun no?
