The large wolf had stepped outside of Einsame Lykos territory for the day. As much as he adored the lands that his two most cherished alpha's supplied, the violet striped male was in need of a change of scenery. His paws had been itching to run and thus, this morning, Kekarn took it upon himself to do that very thing - run.

Exactly how far and where he ran was unknown to the wolf. He hadn't been in Telk long enough before meeting Deimos and Alexander to get a proper feel for the surrounding territories and land. He knew a few spots closer to Einsame territory, but that was about it. So today was to be a day of exploration. Not only would it be good to get out and see exactly what was out there, but it could help for assisting other wolves in the future. Information of surrounding land and territories was a good thing for a beta wolf to know. . . .

Sticking to neutral territory - it was the safest place to be - most of the morning had long since passed. Kek's run had slowed to a lazy sort of lope as he weaved his way through surrounding foliage. A soft silence had overcome the land, and where sunshine once reigned, heavy clouds had turned the afternoon dismal and gray. The occasional raindrop was felt, as well as a low rumble of thunder.

Looked like rain.

Throwing back as his head, the wolf let loose a long howl. It was customary etiquette to do when in foreign lands, if only to get an idea of the surrounding territories and resident wolves. It would help him figure out without bounding up to borders where packs were located and where most wolves resided. Sometimes it brought attention to oneself, but sometimes it also kept others at bay. Not every wolf took meeting a stranger kindly, and some did all they could to avoid being found...

Kek was a very large male and wasn't at all concerned about running in to a stranger.....but he was awfully polite.

The entire morning and the past few days, he had been digging up the melting snow in hopes of possibly finding a rabbit den or maybe a buried kill. He had managed a few catches since his encounter with the rude female, Camille. His body did not appear as a skeleton anymore, no, it was more like a wolf who had not eaten in a while but the muscles were still there. He still needed to work off some fat that had bunched up, but that can be taken care of easily later on. Ehrek paused when the air split with a wonderful howl. Thinking to himself, he pondered what sort of how it was. Was it the gathering howl to rally his pack members for a hunt? No, it was not. Was it the territorial howl to let other packs know where they are to them? Possible, he himself was not very familiar with it. Actually, the only howls he ever made when he was in pain. One day, he will have to try his paw in one of these howls.

If the howl was for territory purposes, could it be possible that the charcoal dark wolf was near a boarder into another's pack lands? It was then that something soft pinned against his lock. And then another upon his ear. Looking up with soulful golden eyes, he saw that the sky had darkened and the clouds were gathering together above.

"It has gotten dark... and quick," he sniffed the air a bit. "Rain." He knew he would need shelter, just as he had with Jaxom when there was heavy snow fall in this area. It was stay here by himself or move toward the pack lands where there were others. The second option had a dangerous aspect of being attack as an intruder upon their land. Territories are meant to provide food and resources to the owner and a safe place to raise their young. He was could be a danger to that. Ehrek flicked his tail a bit and had decided to go. He'll take other actions later.

As he moved closer to where the initial howl was used, he howled back a reply. At least tried to.

Kekarn thought it a curious sort the way weather worked. Having travelled north, he'd discovered that even with the sunshine so bright closer to the river and valleys, there was still snow. Given, much of the frozen, cold stuff was fast turning in to slush and puddles but it was still snow. The rumbles of thunder and few droplets of rain was contradictory to the slush upon the hills. . . . it was crazy!

Still, the higher mountains were lined with white stuff almost all year round. The temperature was cooler here than where he typically resided but the violet male hadn't expected to find snow. Life was full of little surprises wasnt it?

As if to prove his thought, his cream-tipped ears pricked as a howl cut through the air. It was . . . unusual for a howl but every wolf song was unique. Kekarn was surprised at how close the source was coming from. Tail wagging lazily behind him, the male decided to investigate upon the sound. Perhaps the wolf was a local resident and could give him an idea of surrounding territories and packs? Perhaps he was closer to a pack then he'd originally imagined! Hmm. . . . Either way, blue eyes burned bright as he trotted closer to the source of the sound.

With any luck the cry hadn't been one of warning. It hadn't sounded hostile in nature but, then again, the howl hadn't really been very clear on its intensions. Either way, Kek would find out soon enough. If he were lucky he wouldn't be mobbed or run off the lands.

With a storm brewing, and being a stranger to the surrounding territory, Kekarn needed all the friends he could get!

Ehrek moved around slowly, carefully, around the roots and brush around. He moved around, paw caked in hard pack snow that was kicked off now and again with every flick of his paws. His golden eyes glanced around in the darkness from the clouded sky and the few droplets of rain that would hit him. Ehrek tried to stay in the shade, out from the open. Starting to regret his prior howl, he tried once again, possibly more clearer and kinder. He cleared this throat as something felt out of place. He rubbed his throat and tried again. Odd, that one sounded more like help.

Frustrated, he just planted himself down and looked up at the sky again. He hadn't been taught everything he needed to know when he was a pup. Imprinting was important for a pup and he missed his window of oppritunity to learn all the things he needed to. He could barely hunt and the things he did catch were either out of luck or out of sheer surprise upon the other's behalf. He can't howl correctly either and the only one he knew how to was for help. Imprinting was important, but it was not impossible to teach him the skills he needed to learn at his stage of life-no, he was still young! He would just have to work harder to learn it.

Moving inside a slightly hallowed out tree, perhaps by a badger or some other sort of animal, for shelter. Shaking out his fur, he made sure not to drag too much water into the tree. He had to stay dry for a while before heading out again. His dark fur will probably freeze if it were wet. Rain, thunder, snow... North had its crazy times.

Another howl was hear but it certainly didn't sound friendly. Not that it was hostile in nature, no, but it sounded. . . stressed? Concerned? It was hard to decipher the clarity in the song. . . very unusual for a wolf. Howling came naturally to most. Message unclear, Kekarn took it upon himself to further investigate. If it was indeed a cry for help the large male would feel awful if he didn't answer and someone was indeed in need. He wasn't the sort of wolf to let others fend for themselves. . . Sure, the world tended to revolve around the statement 'survival of the fittest' but wolves were pack animals - there was nothing UNFIT about getting a little help now and then.

Throwing his head back a final time, he howled almost a soothing song, one of reassurance. He let the stranger know his location, his song moving with his footsteps. He would find the source - he knew the general whereabouts of the cry.

Blue-green eyes searched the foreign forest as the storm continued to gather. Strange how he stepped in snow and slush, yet the brewing clouds above was no blizzard. Just a storm. The few drops of rain that dotted his fur and face was cold. . . this was no summer rain! A flash of light and that awful rumble proved that the storm was nearing and ready to break.

Within a few moments the purple male stepped throughout the shadows of the forest, sniffing the air in hopes of discovering the wolf. A new scent had perfumed the air, foreign and strange. He knew from scent alone that the wolf was male and potentially alone - there was no scents of other wolves or animals upon him. His violet tail was raised slightly behind him, though it wasn't a particularly dominant position. Kek really wasn't a dominant wolf - he just didn't think it was necessary to flaunt power to others. Sure, he was a beta wolf, but what did that mean? Nothing but more responsibility - not that he was better or worse then another.

Thankfully Deimos and Alexander ran a good a pack with good wolves - anxiety levels were low and tension was all but nonexistent. It was a good pack - no, a great pack - and Kekarn couldn't have been invited to join any better of a place. Especially now that he wasn't alone and was accepted for who and what he was.

Pausing in his steps, Kekarn was certain the wolf was near but not entirely sure where. "Hello? Is anyone here?" His deep voice broke through the silence, competing with the thunder and lighting. The rain was falling heavier now and already it was causing Ehrek's scent to disappear.

Damn. Thankfully he hadn't smelled wolf blood within the male's scent, but that didn't mean he wasn't hurt or in need of help!

Sniffing the ground and nearby trees, he wasn't far from the hallowed tree. Darkness, plus unfamiliar territory and a fast disappearing scent caused him to overlook the blue and black male.

Ehrek's ears picked up on another's voice and replied with a bark. Another presence, those were good sometimes. Looking around the little hallow out den he saw that it was too small to fit two. Even if it could, it would be a very very very tight squeeze. Best not let him near, not yet. This was his "territory" at least that was how he saw it as. A territory for him to use, and he could not trust anyone who pressed into it without his permission. He had to make sure this new presence was okay to enter if anything else.

Ehrek's body message was irregular as it gave off many strange and conflicting signals. His tail was down, but tipped off - playful. His ears were perked - alert. His head was low to shoulder level - slight submissiveness. It was hard to describe but he wanted to meet this other wolf.

"I am here!" he called out, exiting his den.

Stepping out into the open, he reliezed it was not the best thing he could have done. It was raining hard, even through the leaves of the tree above him. Luckily, just not as hard as it is outside of the shelter. With a deep breath, the charcoal - blue wolf made a dash to another tree when a crack of thunder made him jump out of surprise before cowering under another tree. The scent he picked up was very strong. He was close. Male, faint scents of others on him... but that was all he could pick up through the rain. Looking out from where he was, he could see the sporadic flashes of light in the sky. Lightning, Thunder, Rain, and already, Snow. This was perfect! Wonderful! He was sure to be cold tonight, but that can be fixed with a good den and some leaves if he could find an.

Kek had never met such crazy weather. Snow on the ground, quickly slushing and sticking to his paws while his shoulders were draped with freezing rain! Thunder rumbled a second time and the wolf couldn't help but sigh.

It wasn't that the storm bothered him. How long had he survived through freakish squalls and thunderstorms? He'd even witnessed the wind so horrible that it sucked up trees and debris in a funnel! Nothing was worse than a tornado so this cold storm was but a nuisance! Given, it was a cold nuisance, but a nuisance nonetheless.

Violet fur stuck up from the wind and rain, causing the large male to look even more freakish than before. It wasn't that his size intimidated wolves but occasionally it kept his peers from approaching. He wasn't aggressive or hostile. . . just . . . really big. Sadly, first appearances were everything and many didn't stick around long enough to find out a giant purple wolf's temperament.

A flash of light, half blinding, and the wind continued to pick up. Some adventure. . . . Really. Thankfully a voice broke through the storm. Kek's violet ears pricked and twitched as he altered his direction. Pushing through the woods it took but a moment and another call for him to spot the grey and blue Ehrek cowering under a tree.

"I'm here," he announced his presence in case the storm distracted the grey and blue wolf from witnessing his approach. Standing within the rain, not at all concerned about being soaked to the bone, the wolf kept his tail relaxed and wagging. Beta he may be he was off his lands and he wasn't exactly dominance crazy. A lazy smile crossed his features, his ears relaxed upon his head and unconcerned. No need to fudge his first meeting with the locals! Eyes bright he opened his maw to speak. "I don't - " A flash of light and a roar of thunder cut him off.

He waited.

Shaking out his coat (though it did no good since the rain continued to fall) Kek licked his maw and once again eyed the stranger. "I don't mean to drag you out in the midst of a storm. . . Is the weather always this crazy?"

This was the first time he'd ever been so far north.

If the weather was as confused as it seemed today perhaps he'd stick to the more friendly climates of the south.

Not bothering to approach and looking content - if more then a little bedraggled - in the elements Kek hoped the storm wouldn't drive the wolf away. A shame the violet beta hadn't known the weather to be so cruel else he might have come on a more pleasant afternoon.

Ehrek laughed and watched the male move about in the rain, the storm cutting off his sentence with a crack of thunder. Looking over at the wolf, he notice that, from where he was sitting, that he was much larger than he was. Ehrek himself was a rather small wolf, a small body that held a lot of power ready to be let go when the time needed it to be. He saved those times for life-threatening situations. His golden eyes glanced up into the sky for a brief moment to see the rolling clouds through the rain and flashes of lightning. It was strange not to see the soft snow fall down on him...

"This isn't usually how it is like here. I mean, it is usually snowing," he shouted back, trying to speak over the pattering rain and cracking thunder. His tail flicked around his paws and his body seemed to close in on itself to try to keep the host warm as long as possible. His den was not too far, but he was not gonna retreat and let a stranger follow him into his territory. He had to make sure this one was deemable to enter it.

"Drag me around all you want, this storm should end soon. Though, I can't really predict when it will end. I just hope it does soon. I am starting to miss the blizzards now..."

He glanced over at the purple wolf, a rather unique color to his eyes. He had never seen such a being such as that. His previous encounters were mostly of the norm, but purple was a huge stretch. Then again, so wasn't that rude, blue female...

"What are you doing here, Stranger?"

The violet wolf continued to sit in the downpour, still unphased by the elements. He didn't particularly like to be drenched in a fridgid rain, but then again, he was used to unfriendly weather patterns. Snow, rain, hail - what hadn't the violet wolf been through?

The trees provided minimal shelter - that was enough for him!

Still unmoving, his violet tail tip wagged back and forth as a more lop-sided grin painted his features. Snow would have been a lovely sight to see! Not that Kek enjoyed winters, but the white fluff was beautiful. So acclimated to the heat of summer, the cold ice and feathery dust of snow would have been a welcome change. Though frigid rain was a nice change from the humid weather of the south, it just wasn't as visually appealing as a snowfall.

He really had picked the wrong day to travel.

"Guess I brought the rain," he chuckled, licking his nose and, once again, shaking out his fur. As drenched as if he'd gone for a swim, Kek looked frazzled and just a hair miserable. Nobody looked good in the rain and he proved it!

"With luck the worst of it has passed," he glanced up at the dark skies, going blind as another streak of lightning danced through the clouds. Though the rain was still steady the thunder and lightning was already beginning to diminish some. . . .

Thankfully.

Now if only a cold front didn't run through and transform the slush and puddles in to ice!

"Snow would have been a welcome sight, I must admit. But on a happier note, at least there's puddles to play in?" It wasn't much but it was something. Kek loved games and play and he wasn't too old or too big to NOT enjoy splashing around.

"I just wandered up for a visit to get away from the heat of summer. Guess I got my wish, wouldn't you say?" He grinned, rolling his eyes before refocusing his attention back on Ehrek. Another tail wag. "I take it you're a local then?" With all the rain and severe weather, Kekarn could only hope he hadn't blindly wandered on to another's territory. That was all he'd need - make enemies or insult the locals.

Maybe he was getting too old to wander. . .
PostPosted: Thu Jul 19, 2007 5:09 pm

"You brought the rain, huh? Do you believe that you are some sort of great being to bring up such weather phenomina?" he spoke with a bit of a sarcastic voice as he shook in his little spot under the tree. He disliked the rain... he disliked water. He disliked most things wet and this was not the best time for him to be out of his den. He was slightly thin but he was growing back in mass. He looked up into the sky and sighed. He wanted his snow back. "Let's hope that this all ends all together and spare us the time of having to clean ourselves afterwards. This rain is annoying and it makes the snow so much harder to walk in."

Puddles?

Ehrek jerked his head over at the other male when he said that. Puddles? Why would that be a good thing? Puddles to play in? What sort of male was this? He was huge, unnaturally huge, and he liked to play in puddles? ... today was starting to become a rather odd day. The wolf narrowed his eyes and sighed.

"I am a local here. I live here in the north as a vagabond. Does that bother you, foreigner?" he spoke, a bit of a serious tone. He was quite close to his temporary den. That itself was his territory and he was going to protect it. He was a vagabond, no home. Moving about from place to place, taking shelter in abandoned dens or burrows that he could find. During those times, those places became his temporary territory. He was alone and he had to take care of himself, a single slip in judgement could end him. He had reason to be defensive at times.

"There is no heat up here unless you are with someone else to share warmth. Otherwise, you are doomed to freeze."

The wolf tilted his head with a most curious expression placed upon his features. He hadn't been serious when he mentioned bringing the rain, nor had he thought he'd spoken in an uppity tone. Hmm. Perhaps his own ears were deceiving him? Flicking an ear, lethargic expression still in place, he studied the black and grey wolf before him. "I never said that now, did I? Dragging around a cloud of rain surely doesn't sound like the properties of some great being. . . "

Not in Kek's mind. Yes the rain could be gorgeous and thundershowers could put on a lovely show with lightning and its echoing roars. But today, this far north in all the cold, the storm was far from beautiful. It was about as cold and friendly as the lands it soak.

Luck wasn't with him in his travels it seemed.

For shame.

A glance around what once was (probably) a winter wonderland. Any snow that remained was muddy and full of slush. The soft white of the eternal winter was now transformed in to a frigid mudslide. "Snow? What snow?" The violet male certainly didn't witness much snow. Most of it was now slush and mud. . . . though with the chill in the air there was a chance all would freeze over soon enough. The white would once again return as soon as the freak warm front moved on.

Ehrek was certainly an unusual fellow. Uptight it seemed, or maybe it was just the weather? Kek wasn't surprised but he was slightly disappointed. It seemed his good nature was sliding off the male like oil on water. . . Perhaps it was time to be just as serious in return?

Thin, water-drenched tail wrapped around his muddy and frigid toes. He ignored the glare, a little unsure if it was directed at him or meant to keep the water out of the black and blue wolf's eyes. His ears rested back against his head and heaved a patient sigh of his own. A defensive little boy he'd found, hadn't he?

. . . . most loners were. Just because he was a freak of nature and personality didn't mean others so easily shared in such things. Kek was used to aggressive wolves and just as defensive loners. He didn't blame Ehrek, not in the least - wolves needed to be ever wary of strangers. The violet one had just been spoiled upon meeting Alexander and Deimos. . .

But then, they too were different.

Keeping as relaxed a pose as possible, doing his best to look as non-threatening and friendly, he studied Ehrek. "Now why on earth would that bother me? I've lived alone longer than I care to remember, my fine sir, so consider yourself in very good company." A brief smile and a shrug of his shoulders - before meeting Alex and Deimos he'd been alone. It had been years since his last pack, and even longer before meeting that! Kek wasn't often well received, especially after his peers found out exactly how strange the large male was.

Age had taught him to accept his shadow as company, his own voice as comfort. Even with Einsame Lykos, with Deimos and Alex's friendship, the male didn't assume his stay would be long. Who knew what the future would hold? Far too long had history repeated itself. . . . Far too long things 'just didn't work out' one way or another. He believed in his alpha's, and he believed in the idea of the pack. . . . but he wasn't foolish enough to believe that anything lasted forever.

"Doomed to freeze, eh. . . ? Hmm. Well that doesn't sound very hospitable. . . Visitors doomed to freeze. . . . No, not very friendly at all." He spoke with an amused grin, as if he weren't at all concerned. Was he? In all reality no. . . not quite yet. If that was to be his fate so be it - he had been blessed with a coat of fur that was meant to keep out the cold and suppress the heat. He'd take his chances that nature didn't steer him wrong. Besides, what other options did he have?

Was he cold?

Yeah, he was.

But did he put it down as a deathly cold?

No, not particularly. Not yet at any rate. Maybe come nightfall it would be a different story.

"But please, if you've somewhere else to be don't stay out in the cold for my sake. Run along if you wish, trust me, I really wouldn't blame you." He wagged his tail before hunkering down to curl up on his chosen spot beneath the treeline. The rain wasn't quite as heavy, but it still was cold and steady. Kek was in no hurry to go anywhere. . . here was as good a spot as any.

PostPosted: Sun Jul 22, 2007 7:31 pm

Ehrek's head fell down just blow his shoulders, his shoulder haunched up and his ears flat. This male seemed to be not threat, but he was still not entirely convinced that this male showed no possible threats to him and his territory. Though his territory was small, it was all he had now and what seemed to be forever. It fet like he would never settle down anywhere or with anyone for that matter. He was destined to be alone as it seemed. His past was locked up and it was the very past that made him alone to start with. Being alone in the north, forced to adapt and live on has been harsh on the wolf, but that never stopped him from living. His exterer was hard and cold over the years, frozen by the north, waiting to be melted away for his interior to come free once again. Not having a frequent company put a pause on his social behavior from when he was a pup. He had no idea how he would react when his frozen exterior was gone.

He sighed.

"The North freezes everything but time. Hearts, souls, personalities, plants, the dead... if one does not adapt and forfeit a part of themselves to this place, they will surely die. At least, as a loner as myself. I have given something to the North and you have been talking to it since you started this conversation."

"Ehrek is my name..."

He rose to his feet for a brief moment to stretch and shake out what his fur had collected before returning to his position once again. He glanced over from the side of his eye and looked down at his paws. He could be a good company... he had not had any himself for quite a while and this was well... it was hard to say. He sighed and tried his best to smile.

"Thank you for the company, stranger... I am not used to it," he spoke. "You must forgive me for being defensive. Being a loner and not part of the north's packs, I barely have anything to my name but the temporary places that I rest during my wanders. It just so happens that you are close to my territory and you must know that is an instinctive behavior."

The north, those alone are doomed to freeze if they were too weak to survive the cold of teh night. He was lucky all these years. Someone in his line must have been from the north, otherwise, his fur would not be able to protect him as it has all this time. "Visitors should be warned about that. But if you are here, find yourself lucky you have not died yet from the cold of the night..."

"... I have nowhere to be. I would welcome you into my territory, but it is too small and I do not believe it could fit anyone of your.... stature."

Kek listened to the wolf before him, tilting his head in the most inquisitive of manners. It appeared the the blue and black male had indeed become layered in ice. The way he spoke, the way he moved and acted. . . Perhaps this far North wasn't indeed the best place for a wolf to roam.

If one wanted to be cold, miserable, and alone this appeared to be a choice spot. Ears lowering ever so slightly, ducking his head, Kek couldn't resist. "If the North is such a hostile ruler, than why stay? Are the benefits of the frost and cold truly that rewarding?" He wasn't judging Ehrek or his choice, merely Kek was trying to gain an understanding. He'd never met one from the north, though he himself had lived through many a blizzard and winter. But to live and stay solely within the wasteland of slush, mud, and ice?

Why?

At the mention of his name, Kek allowed his striped tail to wag a bit in pleasure. Ehrek. He quickly committed the name, along with his scent and colours, to memory. His first acquaintance outside of Deimos and Alex, his first spot of company of the north. "It's truly a pleasure," and the large male meant it. "And please, feel no need to apologize about your defenses. Not every stranger is kind or friendly, and not every wolf has good intentions. I do apologize for wandering recklessly to the edges of your borders. . . " He shifted position, pushing himself up to his own feet, a small, lop-sided smile crossing his features.

A shake out of his own fur and a glance up at the sky. The rain had turned to just that - a shower, and the lightning had all but disappeared. A few rumbles were heard but, otherwise, it seemed as if the storm was beginning to pass. "The name's Kek, and if you'd rather I retreat to more netural grounds, please, just point the way!" Kek really didn't know which way Ehrek's territory began. . .

He wasn't trying to escape or avoid Ehrek, but he didn't want to keep the blue and black wolf on edge. He wasn't intimidated, but he himself didn't want to come off as intimidating. Alienating potential friends was a big no-no in his book. . .

He himself had enough life-choices to do that.

"Again, I appreciate your thoughts of hospitality but I'm content on neutral grounds," he laughed, a low rumble in his throat. Someone of his . . .stature? Was he really that big or was Ehrek just that small? Kek knew he was tall and broad shouldered, but he used to pretend that everyone was just small. . . . "And here I thought I'd shrink a few inches after such a severe soaking."

Almost a pout - ALMOST. But his expression slipped in to another easy going, content grin.

Kek had absolutely no objections lounging in slush and mud. It felt nice on his tired paws. . . . just how far HAD he traveled today? Far enough to keep him up North for awhile. There was no sense in rushing back. . . .

"The North has its own illnesses that could arise from its cold temperature... come, there is plenty of room under this tree. I would not want you to get a cold of some sort of maybe something even worse," Ehrek was trying to soften up, but he found that hard to do since he had been alone for some time. "Borders? Hah, I would have to say that the only border I have is none. I am of no pack. I have no home or den that belongs to me. So have trespassed onto nothing more than the den that I decided to spend the night in."

He glanced up at the sky, feeling the pressure lift slightly. The drizzle was a sure sign of the rain was now moving on and the rolling thunders made it clear that it has followed. He knew it would go away and soon enough the game will be out and about foraging for food and he will do the same. He glanced back at the larger male. Bigger, stronger... how could anyone not feel intimidated by him? Ehrek had seen him, spoke with him, and felt at ease a bit but he was still defensive. After all, it could be just a ploy.

"The only nuetral grounds that I know of are the ones here and the one's a bit further northwest. At least, that is where I have been. I have not reall gone far, just from here to there and to the river. Other than that, I have been quite stationary," he chuckled at his remark about the rain making him shorter, or making his fur more compact due to the moisture. "No, my friend, the North will only make you bigger. Rough enviorments make the body strong. Only the strongest survive now a days and those who survive that are weak are lucky."

Disease? Kek hadn't thought of catching a cold, despite the chill in the air and his summer coat. He didn't often get sick so the fear of plague wasn't something the big wolf thought about. Then again, his easy going nature made him careless on certain aspects. A wolf without many worries or concerns could often find himself in trouble. Fear and worry helped keep an animal on his toes. . .

Not that Kek WASN'T careful. It just never occurred to him to be concerned about health. . .

Rolling to his feet, the violet and striped wolf shook out his summer coat, hoping to rid it of the slush and mud. It helped . . . a little, but it would take a thorough grooming to truly bring it back to its purple glory. Licking his nose, he approached Ehrek with an easy gait, accepting his invitation to take shelter from the last of the storm beneath the tree.

"Thanks," he teased, good humor glowing in his eyes. "Now that the worst of it is over. . ." A wink to prove he was indeed just speaking in jest and play as he settled comfortably underneath the shelter of the tree. A definite improvement if he did think so himself!

Kek listened to Ehrek, an easy smile placed upon his maw. So he hadn't really traveled far in the North, eh? That sounded like Kek back on Einsame Lykos territory. Besides their small bear den and the lands that they protected, Kek hadn't traveled far around Telk at all! He could locate the river and the lake, but besides that, it was all just forest to him.

Other packs populated the woods, drawn like a moth to a flame. But in all reality Kek hadn't meant any of the other packs. Oh, he remembered the silly wolf, Sandrina, and her simple ways. Part of Kek wondered if she'd ever managed to find her way home. . . . Or if the wolf who had returned the howl HAD been part of her own!

Kek couldn't help but chuckle as he thought about everything Ehrek told him. "This North place really isn't for the faint of heart. . . Hostile towards strangers and those not strong enough to thrive. . . .You picked one hell of a place to settle." He wasn't mocking him, oh far from it. There was nothing but respect laced in his gentle words, his blue-green eyes reflecting such a feeling.

Ehrek might have been more compact and smaller boned than Kek, but he managed to survive one of the harshest environments known to a wolf. That took a lot. . . and he highly doubted Ehrek was one of the so called 'lucky wolves'.

He was smart, very smart. A good guide to have if he did indeed decided to test out the taste of the North and mingle. A good place to hide, a good place to stay away from others. . . .

Kek himself might have retired here had he not found Deimos and Alex. Here he could waste away alone without threat of hostility or hate. . . without the strange look of others. A good place to remember. . . just in case. . . .
