If you've ever seen an agility, disc dog, or fly ball trial you probably know there are usualy three categories, mini's medium and large dogs. There's also usualy a novice intermediate and advanced class. But anyone who's seen agility or any competitive dog sport just once even without knowing the rules has probably thought BORDER COLLIES, should have their own category. They are on a completly different level than all the other dog breeds. Their speed and focus is unlike any other dog breed. I can't remember the last dog competition where a breed other than a border collie won.

What do you think? Should Border Collies have a class of their own?

Is it their fault they were bred for the same things you are condemning them for?

And the reason I see border collies winning all the time is because that's all I tend to SEE doing agility.

People who want to win these competitions will tend to get a border collie for the very reasons you stated. If they get some other breed, good for them.

But in all honesty, isn't agility just for the fun of getting out and doing something fun with your dog, while giving it mentally and physical stimulation?

Definitely makes the dog happier - probably because they don't care who wins or loses, they just know that they had fun.

No. ive see the same amount and even more drive in other dogs. while border collies have that drive for play and serving their owner, their not the only dogs that have that. Also, they were bred for that stuff, what do you expect? I have a Malinois and A Mutt, and I couldnt ask for better flyball dogs. domokun

Not really. I watched some flyball, for instance. There was a team without a single border collie on their team. i can't remember what they placed, but they did quite well.
There are alot of dogs with drive. My freind has a huge leonberger that loves agility so much she squeezes herself into the tunnels on her elbows and knees. Breed isn't the only factor in compitition.
