I'm asking from the beginning of the book and I'm using a point made on the LKH forums..
Nathaniel is being more assertive. He wanted a somewhat anniversary thing with Anita and it just being him and her... This, in my opinion, is a good thing.
He then spoke his mind.. He wanted some more rough stuff with Anita. Or at least to be tied up. And Anita is not sure if she wants to do that.
Nathaniel then gave something of an ultimatum... If she won't tie him up, he wants to look elsewhere to get his jollies off for that particular aspect of his sexlife. That he needs to get a bit more slap and tickle than Anita is willing to give.
I think this is both a good and bad thing.
Good - Nathaniel is obviously in therapy and working out issues that he needs resolved that he's being more assertive in what he wants/needs.
Bad - If it were anyone other than Nathaniel dropping that kind of ultimatum, Anita woulda booted him to the curb. Why is it that Nate can get away with it? And when will he stop?
That last question is the one I saw posed on the LKH forums.. If Anita gives in and gives him this, letting him be tied up, will he then progress into wanting more and more and more, making Anita give up a little bit more and more and more..?

I kinda like the idea of it being Asher that's gonna teach Anita how to be a proper dom to Nate's sub.. teach her how to do the whole thing right.. But do you think Anita will work with him and go along with it? Or do you think Asher and Nate will be something of a couple?

You do have some valid ideas there. I have to say I hope she goes for the bondage thing, simply for the fact that it would let Nathaniel feel more secure and hopefully boost his confidence in addressing his needs. I think he really needs it also b/c it seems like Anita is always making adjustments for the other men in her life so it's his turn for some give from her. (Is this making any sense?)
As for the Asher thing, I think it would definitely add something to the mix, I'm just not sure what. Laurell is the kind of author where you think it's going to be one way and then she throws you for a loop.

thats an interesting point. i hope that anita and nathaniel can work out an arrangement that they both want and that they are both comfortable with. the whole asher thing is a little weird but i think it would be fun.

I would love it if Asher & Nathaniel became a couple. They could both still be with Anita when they wanted, but it would be nice for both of them to have a full time honey just for themselves.

If Asher and Nathaniel Become a couple it could become another Triumverate with Anita, Asher, and Nathaniel. And who Knows what will happen. if that does happen will that make Asher even more powerful...Remember he now has an animal to call, hyenas, he is becoming a master vamp with all the perks.

See the way I look at it is reguardless of whether or not she gives in, they can't seperate, not completely. He's her animal to call, and they'd always be tied together in some form.
So in that sense can he even break up with her? I know they could end the sex, the relationship, but they'd always have to be together.
But I agree with you completely in the sense that Nat is stepping into a new person, right now he's new at being able to make his demands, so it's easy for him to say all he wants is to be tied up, what will happen when he grows more comfortable with himself and his relationship.
In the end I think Anita will give in simply because she loves him, and he's the only person in her life that needs her so completely. She gave into his demands to be in her bed in the begining, and I think/hope she'll cave again.
I don't know if being a dom would change Anita too much, but I think it would strengthen her partnership with Nat.
And yes, Asher should be involved. We need to contact Mrs. Hamilton on the subject asap. ;]

I love the idea of Nathanial getting what he wants, but I don't think she'll be able to do it without Asher's help. I think she needs to see it before being able to do it, so that she understands it's not a bad thing, and that she isn't really just damaging him more.
Besides, the Anita Blake books need more yaoi. ^3^

Asher and Nathaniel would be good considering that Anita has yet to give herself completely to someone and they each need something from her that they are not able to get.

I doubt that. She hates Belle. I think she'll hand the reigns over to Asher, but hate the idea, but still do it because it's whats best for Nathaniel.

Didn't Anita say at some point that people usually hate in other people what they fear in themselves? I think Anita knows that she's gonna like, but it's not "normal" or "good" in her upbringing. And since she already feels like she's losing all her standards, she fights hard to keep this last defense.
I believe that eventually she will realize that she's ok with it and she'll love it for she loves Asher and Nathaniel. And plus, I'm sure Asher and Nathaniel's combined persuasion will make her understand and accept. I hope Jean Claude gives her a lesson too, we know he'll make it unforgettable =)
