Entry one: Fire Emblem: Darkness Strikes Author: Jatstheking
It was about 9:00 AM in the morning and Victor and his mother were at their house. The sun was shinning and it was a great day. The trees were whistling with birds in them. Victor woke up with his teddy bear at his side and his blankets, which covered his body. He had brown hair and brown eyes. He wasn't really tall but a normal size. Victor didn't know what was going to happen today but today was when darkness struck. Victor woke from his bedroom. He yawned and walked out side of his house, which was near to the Lord Eliwood of Pherae Castle. Victor was 16 years old and had hair that was brown and almost blonde color. Victor wore clothes that were normal, and he had his favorite clothing that he wore a lot. This was his brown cloak that he got from his dad when he was a kid he keeps it like a treasure and loves it very much. Victor's dad has been dead since Victor was 5 and he always loved the cloak. While Victor was rubbing his eyes he walked toward a well to get water. Then he looked at Lord Eliwood's castle. Lord Elbert was the lord but has been dead for about seven years now and his son Eliwood took over the job as lord of Pherae "Man what a great castle," Victor said whit a smile. He got the water from the well and he went inside to see his mother. "Good morning Victor how are you today?" Victor's mom said. She was Lea who was 40 years old and was a very healthy person. "I'm doing good mom so what about break-" Victor didn't get to finish his sentence because there was a rumble that shook the ground. "Mom what was that!" Victor asked getting afraid "Victor I want you to stay in the house do not go outside…Okay?" Lea told him. "Okay mom but-" "Just stay inside." Lea went outside to see what was happing. It was a fight… Some people in dark clothing that looked like dark magic wielders started destroying the homes of other people. They saw Lea and the aim and targeted at her. "Flux!" One dark wielder shouted. Lea screamed and fell. "MOM!" Victor yelled after coming out side when his mom told him not to, "Mom mom! What happened?" "Victor," Lea whispered. "I love you more then anything I want you to be safe. Live a good life." She died in Victor's arms and Victor could feel the dead weight on his arms as she laid there to rest. Victor started crying and couldn't move, but there were still dark mages there… "Flux!" The dark mage shouted again. Victor still wouldn't move he started shaking and was about to get hit. Then a boy in blue armor and a red on the inside and blue on the outside cape came in a stuck a sword through the dark mage's heart. The mage started to bleed and fell over and died. The person in blue armor was Eliwood son the Lord Elbert. He just saved Victor's life without a second of thought. "Wait your Lord Eliwood!" Victor said astounded. "Yes," Lord Eliwood answered. "And if you want to live come with me now and take this weapon." As Eliwood through Victor the weapon he got a glimpse at what it was. The weapon was a dagger or a thief's knife. Victor always thought that a thief was a cool person or job to have so his dad thought he a lot about being one. "I don't have a lot of training though." Victor said while holding the dagger down to get ready to attack. "A little is better then none!" Eliwood answered back while stabbing another dark mage in the back. Victor was ready and was angry at the mages for killing his mom. He wanted revenge for his mom and would get it at all cost. He jumped for a strike at a mage. The dark mage didn't see it coming so Victor got a fast strike. He put the dagger through the mages head and the blood from his head fell out and he died. There was only three mages left. Two of them looked at Eliwood with fear and one looked at Victor in fear. The three mages ran away and went back to where they came from. Eliwood and Victor laugh at them running away, and started talking. "Well your not as bad as I thought you were." Eliwood said smiling at Victor. "I could get better though," He answered. "I only got a little training from my dad about being a thief. Just the basic like sneaking around and using a dagger in trouble." "Its good your alive right now though the basics saved your life." "Yeah," Victor sadly said. "But my mom is dead…" "Well Victor I better tell you what's happing here okay? But first we can bury your mom and let her rest in peace. "Thanks Eliwood…" Was all Victor could say he walked to his mom who was lying on the ground. "Mom," Victor gasped. He started crying over his moms body and cry for a minute. "I will defeat who started this and he will go down. I'm here with Eliwood the lord of Pherae and he will also help me defeat this person. I don't know what might happen but I promise I will avenge you." Victor cried over his mother's body. As the teardrops hit the ground he played back what happen and how his mother died. He knew what he had to do. After the burial of Victor's mother Eliwood and Victor started talking about what was happening and what they had to do. "Okay," Eliwood started to say as Victor and him were eating bread and some soup for breakfast. "Now I know you just got into this mess and all, but I feel that you would be a great-" "Don't even start," Victor told him. "I want to beat these bad guys for all they did to my mom. You don't need to try and make me come on your team I want to join." "Really! That’s good well I don't think you know him fully but the person trying to kill you and mostly me is king Zephiel." "Oh!" Victor answered. "I know him he's that king of Bern guy right? "Yes. And he became really vile over the years. Zephiel now thinks that humans are useless and wants to make as better by killing us all." "Useless! Who does he think he is!" Victor exclaimed. "I think the world would be better without him!" "I also think this," Eliwood answered. "And he now wants to take over Elibe. My son is 7 years old now and I want him to be safe." "I got it so far Eliwood, but how do we get to Zephiel." "Well Zephiel is really behind all this." "What?" Victor asked. "But you just said that he's trying to take over all of Elibe!" "I know," Eliwood answered. "Right now Zephiel isn't making his move. He's letting other people try to do all of this. Once Zephiel makes his move that's when things will get really messy. He's only letting other pawns do his work so he won't have to until he wants to." "Okay," Victor said. "So were not trying to kill King Zephiel but the pawns he are using instead?" "Right," Eliwood answered smiling that Victor got it. "When he does make that move that's when will strike." "How long do you expect it will take until he does make his move?" Victor question. "Oh I don't expect him to do any of the sort until about 7 years from now." "Why not?" Victor said getting confused "Well its all about strategy he know that me a Hector will-" "Wait!" Victor shouted. "You mean Hector of Ostia" "Yes, Well if were really old he could defeat us and the world would crumple so we have to watch out." "I get it now!" Victor exclaimed happily. "So since he doesn't want to get whipped he covers behind other people!" "Exactly!" Eliwood said smiling at Victor. "But we still have to defeat the next enemy." "Oh yeah…sorry" Victor said embarrassed. "Well how do we do that?" "Okay Victor," Eliwood got up from sitting down. "We'll have to get our buds Rath, Hector, Nino, Matthew, Heath, and everyone else to beat whoever were up against. Are you with me?" "Really!" Victor was astounded. He got to go on a quest with Eliwood, Lord Eliwood! "Okay I got to get my weapons and my teddy bear and I will be ready to go!" "Okay Victor meet back here in 30 minutes." Victor and Eliwood went separate ways. Victor got his thief weapons that his dad gave him and his teddy bear and was ready to go. When he got back to where he and Eliwood were talking Eliwood was there with his horse and a second horse for Victor to ride on. "Okay Victor lets get going." Eliwood told him and got on his horse. Victor packed his stuff in the bags for the horse to carry and Victor and Eliwood were off. They rode for a couple of days and nights when they finally got to where there first destination. The first spot was Ostia where Hector lived. When Eliwood came to the door Hector opened up.
"I thought you come here!" Hector said happily. "Come in Eliwood come in…wait who's this guy?" "He's one of our new recruits Hector, this is Victor." "Well hello Victor," Hector said. "How do you do? I know what's happening Eliwood. I already got my team set up and are with me right now." "Wow! It's really you Hector!" Victor rejoiced. "Yes, of course it is!" Hector said smiling at Victor. "Oh and Eliwood I only brought the best five people I could think of. Hope you don't mind." "Doesn't matter to me," Eliwood answered. "I don't think this guy could be any harder the Nergal do you?" "Yes you right. Victor now it's time for you to meet your new members." Five people walked out of a door and were in front of Victor. One had a bandana that was brown and brown sort of clothes that made him look tough. The second was a girl who wore a blue mage cloak and had reddish brownish hair. The third was a guy with black and white hair and black armor. The fourth was a thief it looked like with a brown cloak that was like Victors dad. Also the last was a girl with a cleric cloak on and brown hair. Victor knew who they were at once. "Those are some of the people who helped save the world from that evil guy Nergal! In order the people are Rath, Nino, Heath, Matthew, Serra!" "This kid knows his stuff Eliwood." Rath said while looking at the kid. "So are we heading off or what?" "Yes we are!" Nino said happily ready to do another mission. "Then off we go," Heath said while going to get his dragon. "I'll be in the air if you need me call me with this dragon whistle. "Another thief just like me I'm honor Hector honor." Matthew said while looking at Victor with a great big old smile. "I'll teach him everything I know!" "Man I hope my dress doesn't get dirty!" Serra said with a grumpy face like she didn't want to be here. All eight of them went on there horse (or in Heath's case dragon) to go to Bern to fight whomever they had to. Rath rode with Nino and Matthew rode with Serra everyone else rode by himself or herself. The eight people rode for 2 weeks day in and out and were finally at their destination, Bern Castle, they were ready to fight and defeat who was causing all the trouble. Victor got his daggers ready and was remembering what Matthew was teaching him in thievery. "Remember Victor, sneaky that's the main goal of a thief." "Okay," Victor nodded. "I'll remember." The castle was big and had guards around the perimeter of it. Eliwood got of his horse with Hector and everyone else. "There is the person we came here to beat," Eliwood told everyone. "Inside that house heavily guarded. During our travels I found out who started this. His name is Zawn and they say his is really powerful." "Well then," Rath asked. "What is our strategy going to be?" "I got one!" Victor exclaimed, "I know this whole castle front and back so I thought of a plan to help us out!" "Really?" Hector asked surprised by Victor's exclamation. "Yeah," Victor said. "See if we put two people out front that can beat up the guards the other people can get through. We'll need a healer too…just in case. Then will have to go left to get to the Kings chambers which is going to be guarded by flying units and priest" "Keep going…" Nino said. "Well once we get past those people we need a big person on a dragon or something to hit all the soldiers without getting hurt as much. "I see…" Heath answered "Then we need some people to get past the doors which are usually locked and then the in the kings chambers there should be Zawn the guy were looking for. "Wow Victor, I can't believe that you could do that. That plan of yours is full proof!" Matthew happily rejoiced. "I haven't seen anything like that since Jats the great tactician." Heath told Victor. "Jats? You mean Jats Takata?" Victor asked "You know him?" Eliwood answered. "Know him I'm his son!" Victor told him, "He died when I was 5 though. My mom said bandits attack the village and he got hurt badly and fell ill. "Jats died…" Nino said looking to the ground. "It was a while ago anyways don't worry about it." Victor said to everyone and the mission started. "Okay guys remember the plan I'll go through it when we get to each spot okay." "Okay…" Matthew answered. "But this plan better not fail but I believe in you Victor." "Lets go guys." Eliwood said. The group got into position and the first mission was to get past the gate and soldiers guarding the castle. "First up is Eliwood and Hector beat the guards to let the rest of us through." Victor told Hector and Eliwood. "Got it." They both said at the same time. Eliwood went first and the guards got their weapons out fast. "You Lord Eliwood you shouldn't be here!" one solider said to him. "Yes, but there is something inside the castle that must be stopped," Eliwood answered to him. "So without us wasting time I will charge in with my friend Hector of Ostia. And my healer Serra." "What!" the guards yelled. Eliwood and Hector ran at the soldiers at full speed. Eliwood with his rapier ran and stabbed two soldiers at once and the blood hit Eliwood, which splatter on his clothes. Hector one the other hand was with his mighty axe the Wolf Beil hit four soldiers and they all fell at the hit. Most of the other soldiers ran away but some didn't want to give up. Serra kept healing Eliwood and Hector and also used her light magic on the soldiers. "We got this bunch cover you guys go inside." Hector yelled toward Victor and the rest of the group. "Follow behind us so you can get through the door." "Okay guys." Rath said. "Lets go!" The rest of the group ran inside behind Eliwood Hector and Serra. When the group got safely inside Victor started remembering what to do next. He told the group, "Over to the left is where we go next… there will be Pegasus knights and Wyvern too. Just in case priest will be there to heal and use light magic. This is where Rath and Nino will rampage over the flying units and the priest because you guys can kill them easily." "Okay easy enough." Nino said while Rath nodded. "Ready guys the left stop should be right…-!" Victor stopped in his tracks because he saw 40 maybe more different types of flying units and priest ready to attack. "Guys this is our stop." Victor said walking backwards. "Already ahead of you" Rath answered while he had his bow and a arrow strung back to shoot. Rath shoot it in the air and a wyvern hit the ground and started bleeding. Rath and Nino started to shoot one after another of arrows and. Fling! * Boom! * Blast! * The fire and arrows kept coming. You could see the Arrow pierce the skin of the people and the blood fall out as the priest/pegasus knight fall to their knees. The arrows and fire was like watching bombs hit the ground. This was the only chance that heath Matthew and Victor got. They need to get through the people kept coming and they couldn't get through at all. Victor was looking both ways to see an entrance they could get through. Victor didn't see anything at all and he was worried about the situation. "Well," Nino asked. "You wanting to get through or what? Will make a line for you guys to get through ok?" "Thanks Nino," Victor answered. Rath and Nino started to kill of enemies in front of them. Rath was twirling his arrow for more movement and shot 2 at a time. The whole row of people in front of them soon fell in seconds. Nino and Rath nodded at Victor to tell them that they did their job and that they could get through. "That's all we can do," Rath told Victor. "So hurry because more people will come any second." "Good," Heath said while nodding. "Come on guys get on my dragon will ride through there so fast they won't catch us." Victor and Matthew looked at Heath who was smiling at the door. Victor got on his dragon with Matthew and flew through the straight line that Rath and Nino made. As Heath's dragon flew Rath's horse stood up on its back legs and let out a loud neigh. "This is much faster!" Victor yelled to heath as they flew through the doors into the main hall. "Great isn't it?" Heath answered back. When they both looked forward they saw the next part of their mission. There were many knights and soldiers line up with spears in their hands. Most had javelins to throw at flying units that came by. "Well…well…" heath sneakily said. "Hold on guys cause we're going down." "What!?" Victor asked. "I'm not-!" He didn't get to finish because they went down so fast he could only breath. Heath got his spear out and held it down. While doing this he told Victor and Matthew, "This will get a little bumpy when I fly upside down so be ready." Again Victor looked shocked because he didn't think he would go upside down. Heath went upside down and started stabbing the knights and soldiers one after the other. The other soldiers that were at the ends started throwing Javelins and short spears at heath but missed completely. Heath was so good in fact that every person he struck with his spear die after the hit because as Victor could see it the blood loss would really defiantly kill them. The flying was easy and Heath landed at the end by the King chambers door. "There you guys go," Heath told them. "I will finish up my job here while you guys fight Zawn in there okay?" "Okay Heath thanks," Victor answered. And he and Matthew unlock the door while Heath flew up in the air again and threw all his lances at every single knight and soldier at the ground. Heath had a lot of lances with him and he kept throwing one after another not missing one target. As Matthew and Victor went to the Kings chambers all they saw was a big room that looked like it was made of crystal itself. The walls and ceiling were so shiny that they both had to cover their eyes. The only thing that was in this room besides all the shiny chandeliers were two chairs… One was empty and the other had a person sitting init. "Glad you could come," the man said that was sitting in the chair. He was a middle age man and he wore a golden cape with 3 golden rings on his right hand and a crown that looked to be for a king. He wore red clothes that fit very easily on him and he had a sword sheath on his hip. His eyes were icy blue. "My name is Zawn and I am the leader right now of this land called Bern." "Zawn!" Victor shouted. "You have killed many countless lives and one of them was my mother! I will not let you continue this!" "Who are you to stop me I am a ruler and you’re a little brat." "So," Matthew said. "You kill lives and you don't care about them?" "They don't matter," Zawn answered. "They are weak and we don't want weak in the land of Elibe." "That's crazy!" Victor yelled. "No one is perfect!" "Yes, some people are like me." Zawn told them coolly. "If you want me to prove if I can take you both on right now." "Bring it…" Matthew answered bringing four killing edges out. "Victor take two of these and use them well." Matthew said while tossing them to Victor. Victor grabbed the killing edges by the handle and looked at them. They were curved and they were really sharp at the end. "These will do Matthew thanks." Victor answered. Zawn smiled at the competition and took his sword out of his sheath. It was sliver and very deadly at the look of it. Victor took a breath to loosen up and relax. He wanted to get this man back from killing his mom and he wanted to save the world. The 3 people stared at each other for a minute and took deep breaths. The noise was so quiet that you couldn't here anything. "Go…" Victor whispered and Matthew disappeared. He reappeared behind Zawn and swiped at him. Zawn quickly dodge and threw a sword from his waist at Matthew. Matthew quickly moved from the sword, which hit the ground with a clang. Victor took his chance to attack at this time. His ran up to Zawn who was still in the air and threw some daggers at him. Zawn dodge in mid air and Victor jumped toward him. In the air Victor and Zawn started to kick and punch each other. Victor got kick in the gut and hit the ground with a large thump. Zawn gracefully flip and landed with falling at all. Victor stood up and grabbed his ribs because they were bruised. He coughed out blood and fell to the floor. Matthew saw this and started to get his chance at Zawn again. Matthew jumped and threw and dagger that spread into two swords at Zawn. Zawn dodge the first and didn't see the other one coming. "Gotcha." Matthew said smiling. Zawn moved just in time to only get a cut on his cheek. Zawn eyes went red blood red and he ran at Matthew with his sword. Mathew swiftly moved out of the way and Zawn totally missed him. Zawn still tried to hit him and Matthew kept moving and moving not getting hit at all. Victor got up and shook his head to get the momentum back in his body. Matthew was still dodging Zawn when victor came to help. Victor blocked a hit with his sword so Matthew could slice him. Zawn hit victor with his sword against Victor's swords and Matthew came behind him. Matthew looked at Zawn and smiled at him. Zawn then smirked and Matthew got a confused looked on his face. At that moment Zawn took his swords and move quickly behind him to slash Matthew. He barley missed getting Matthew's cloak. "Ready Zawn…" Matthew asked. "Lets end this! ASSASSIN STRIKES!" Matthew moved so fast that it looked like he became two people. He then disappeared and in a second was above Zawn. He lunged down holding his swords to cut Zawn's head off. Victor looked to see what happen but only black and red came over him and Victor couldn't see. Victor looked to see what happen after the dust and darkness went away. The sight was not pretty at all. There was blood and lots of it Zawn fell to the ground and so did Matthew. The only problem was this…Zawn didn't have a hole or anything in him…Matthew had a sword through his stomach… Victor shocked looked at Matthew who cough out blood and took out the sword in his stomach. "Matthew!" Victor yelled. "Matthew ar…are…are you okay?" Matthew eyes squinted. "Victor buddy I'm not going to be okay I tried my hardest though…" Matthew smiled. "Victor you have been great and I hope you know…that…" "DON"T DIE MATTHEW!!!" Victor screamed. "MATTHEW!" "Victor be good and save the world. Zawn is not dead yet. I know you…can…defeat…him. Oh and you can keep my cloak…me and your dad always were …a like…Bye….Vic…tor…" Matthew closed his eyes and dead weight came upon Victor's arms. Zawn was behind Victor at this time and he laughed. "Well I guess this guy was really useless," he smirked. "I thought that move would do something to me but I guess it didn't ha!" Zawn looked at Victor who was just sitting there. Victor kept quivering and started crying on Matthew's face. Victor clutched Matthew's cloak and stood up not facing Zawn. "What you going to cry? You little baby," Zawn snickered. "Come on I said I was perfect." Victor turned around and Zawn lost the smile in his face. Victor was so angry he went berserk he couldn't stand it anymore. He took Matthew's cloak and put it around him. He stared at Zawn with his eyes. His eyes change from brown to ice. "YOU KILL MATTHEW!!!!" Victor screamed at Zawn. "I can't forgive you for this my two favorite people in the world gone!" Victor lunged at Zawn and caught him by surprised. Victor sliced Zawn's hand off and he fell to the floor. He grabbed his hand and looked at Victor who was in his rampage. Victor came and Zawn slashed at him. Victor blocked with his sword and shot at Zawn with incredible speed. Zawn dived under Victor and tried to stab him in the back. Victor jumped and shot his killing edges at Zawn. Zawn got hit in the cheek again and started to bleed. Victor came and punched Zawn fight in the face. He picked up his swords and looked down at Zawn. "Assassin strikes…" Victor whispered. Then Victor flew in the air and did the same move as Matthew did. Victor was above Zawn and lunged and him. Victor's swords hit Zawn and he died. Victor got up from his attack and he looked at Matthew. "I saved the world Matthew I did," he said while crying. At that moment Eliwood with hector and Serra came in with Heath, Nino, and Rath as well. "Serra!" Victor said while running to her. "Serra! Matthew-" "Don't even try," Serra said glumly. "I can only heal if someone is wounded not dead… I'm sorry Victor." Victor shocked by the answer Serra gave started crying on Matthew lap. He didn't want a thief that taught him almost everything go away. Matthew was like a father to him. "Victor… I know how you feel to lose a love one." Eliwood told him. "I lost one in my life to, but I know he's in a better place now trust me on that." "Eliwood?" Victor asked "Yeah?" Eliwood questioned "Can we have a proper burial when we get back?" "Yes, We will defiantly. Also if you want we will do one for your mother too." "Thanks." Victor said. The ride back was a quiet one and Victor didn't say much. Once they got back to Ostia they had a proper burial for Matthew and Lea, Victor's mom. After the burial Victor kept the cloak of Matthew to remind him everything he taught him. Victor and the rest of the group stayed at the house of Ostia for a while. When Eliwood and Victor had to go they gave there good byes too the group. "Bye guys!" Eliwood said to them, "Nice job we saved the world again." "No problem!" Hector answered, "Saving the world is a job of ours." "Thanks guy I own you a lot…" Victor said. "I wouldn't be able to get through this without you guys and your help." "Ha!" Nino laughed. "Without your tactician genius we wouldn't be alive at all we own you our lives for that plan." "That's the truth." Heath added. "Thanks guy really," Victor smiled back. Eliwood and Victor rode back to Pherae, and once they got back they talked. Eliwood was happy and quite pleased that they won. Victor got his revenge basically but lost a friend within the time. "Victor," Eliwood asked. "I know you had a few rough times lately but would you like to stay at the House of Pherae?" "Really why?" Victor questioned. "Without your help I wouldn't be here," Eliwood answered. "You would be a great new addition to our team and who know Zephiel might strike again." "That would be awesome!" Victor said cheerfully. And so for a time Victor stayed at the House of Pherae. Victor still doesn't know what's to come. But even so Victor has his team and if Zephiel strikes the team will be ready at all cost. Hopefully it won't be till later on.

Entry two: Kent's Recruit Author: Eternal_Dume
Kent yelled out, "No! No! No!" His students cowered away from him. Indeed, it was odd for Kent to lose his temper. He had such a short fuse these days. Ever since Sain moved to Eturia and the Lady Lyndis went into seclusion after the death of Lord Hausen. Kent was left with the duties of keeping the castle and population together. His recruits were all farm hands that had volunteered. Trying to build up his cavalry units, Kent got them horses, lances, and swords. Barely any knew how to wield a weapon. And a few didn't even know how to ride a horse. This was going to take some time. Kent sighed and said, "You're all dismissed. Work on your sword mastery for tomorrow!" The recruits ran off in a hurry to get away from their teacher. "Captain Kent!" he heard. Kent looked toward where the sound had come from and saw the source. "Captain Kent!" the guard on watch called. Kent pushed his horse into a canter and rode over to the battlements. Carefully guiding his horse around the stairs, he dismounted and climbed to the guards level. He immediately saw what the guard wanted. Outside their gates were thirty armed men and a white-haired woman in front. The woman shouted to Kent, "We are in no condition to fight and wish to lodge here for the night!" Kent was surprised to see what he thought was an elderly woman to be a young woman slightly younger than Kent with her pure-white hair tied up in a bun. Reviewing her words, he looked over her troops and saw they were indeed injured. Kent waved the guards and they began to lower the portcullis. Kent rushed down the stairs and grabbed his horse's reins, going to the front gate. Kent arrived as the woman followed by her troops filed in. Kent waved her aside and she came to him, elegant on her decorated white horse. Kent asked, "Where are you from, and how did your troop recieve so many wounds." The woman put on a worried expression and began to reply, "We are fr-" The two of them whirled around as they heard a war-horn sound. Kent rushed back up the wall and proclaimed, "s**t!" as he saw her answer for himself. At least fifty bandits were massed outside Caelin's gates. The guards had raised the portcullis by then and the bandits seemed to have no siege equipment. But they did have a ladder. Kent rushed back down the stairs and signaled a guard over, "Take these soldiers to the infirmary, if any of them feel they can fight, they are welcome to help us." "Yessir!" the guard said, turning and leading the soldiers up. Kent sighed and calmly climbed the stairs. He looked over the parapets at the massing bandits. "My name is Kent by the way." The white-haired woman looked startled at the thought that Kent had sensed her follow him instead of her soldiers. "I'm Gabriel. You can call me-" Kent interrupted, "Can you wield a weapon Gabriel? Otherwise I must ask you to step down. It's dangerous. See?" Gabriel looked over the edge and asked, "See what?" Kent yelled out, "Heads Down!" He grabbed Gabriel's hand and pulled her down onto the ground. Moments later, arrows whizzed overhead. Kent heard the ladder slam down several meters away and went to knock it back over when he heard bows twang. He ducked as a second volley came up and over. I'll never get to this ladder like this... he thought to himself. Kent inched himself forward until he was directly under the ladder. He couldn't reach it without exposing his head though. And the instant he did, he wouldn't have to think so much anymore. Kent was pondering his situation when a bandit scuttled over the edge. Kent's lance was at his side and he had no time to pick it up. The bandit began to swing his axe when a lightning bolt struck the bandit. The burnt corpse fell next to Kent and he looked over in surprise. Gabriel held a spell book in her hand and Kent realized what happened. Kent picked up his lance and waited for the next bandit to surface. The next one came up and Kent immediately jabbed his lance through the bandits throat. Kent stood, using the corpse as a shield. Kent felt several arrows thud into the body. Kent shoves the ladder over and brought the corpse back with him. After repeating the process several times, with Gabriel launching attacks on the archers every few seconds, Kent turned his attention back to the courtyard. Some of Gabriel's men had gathered on their horses as well as Kent's newly recruited guard of cavaliers. To the side, some archers were preparing to rush up the battlements. Kent ushered a soldier to take his position before he stumbled down the stairs to give orders. "My recruits, go around the back, see if you can ambush them from behind. Don't take any risks." Kent doubt they could do much against the bandits quite yet. He continued, "Gabriel's men, prepare to rush through the main gate, my archers will cover you from the battlements." "Yessir!" the men replied and hurried off to correspond to their orders. Kent looked for his horse but could not find it. He cursed, he wasn't that good at fighting from foot, he went into the barracks and found most of Gabriel's men there, resting. Kent grimaced, They won't come to the call of duty. If the bandits overpower us, it's over... And they won't have helped a bit! Ten men were about to rush out the front. Five archers were going to attempt to cover them. His twenty recruits were going to ambush them from behind. Plus him and Gabriel made thirty-seven soldiers against the remaining bandits. The two guards on the wall were knocking down the ladder and preventing an invasion from atop the walls. Kent couldn't count them into the strike force. Kent came outside and looked at their numbers. Around forty-five bandits were left to fight. Kent swallowed and yelled, "For Caelin!" The gate opened and the ten cavaliers charged out to meet them. The archers rose and took their shots. The archers took out most of the enemy archers in the first round. The enemy archers weren't paying attention to the walls and didn't notice themselves being attacked. Gabriel's men fought fiercely but could not subdue the bandits. Kent motioned for the gates to be closed but three bandits got in before they were able to. Kent drew his sword and attacked, hacking through the first ones defense before they even saw him. The two remaining bandits ganged up on Kent and forced him back, not giving him time to attack. Kent heard the sound of hooves and saw Gabriel ride up on Kent's horse. Her hand raised and lightning brought down one of the bandits. Kent used the distraction to behead the other bandit. "Thanks," he gasped out and stumbled up the battlements. An arrow came out of nowhere and struck Kent's soldier. A crack of lightning ensued and the last enemy archer fell. Kent yelled out in pain and almost fell over the edge. He looked over the edge and saw that all of Gabriel's men had been felled. The number had been lowered to twenty-two. Kent noticed the absence of his own archers and said to no one in particular, "The score is even. Twenty-two to twenty-two." Kent feinted from the pain and felt himself land on the cold stones...

Lyn woke from her slumber and heard the noise of fighting outside her window. She rose sleepily and looked out. Sure enough, bandit's were crawling inside the courtyard. A lone woman stood at the tip of the bandit forces, standing over a red-clad body. She uttered magic quickly and felled several bandits as they rushed forward.Such odds, were not fair. Seventeen strong bandits against one slim girl. Lyn grabbed her Mani Katti and walked out of her room. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Dan gulped as the sweat ran down his body. There were only seven recruits now including him. He was their proclaimed leader and they looked at him for guidance. They had stormed the bandits, but they had turned back and ran after they had been assaulted back. They had lost thirteen men and killed four. the magician girl inside had held most of them back from killing the rest of them. The recruits had seen the bandits crawl over the wall after killing the two guards on top. Dan said to his men, "We're going back in. I can't go away and believe I lost my home and fled! I will die for my home!" Dan charged. He heard the hooves behind him and took it as a sign that the others came with him.

Lyn walked outside and shot the first bandit she saw with her Rienfleche. She dropped her bow and drew her sword. The bandits changed their direction from Gabriel and charged Lyn. She swerved and twirled, the bandits dropped before even getting a hit in. They were slaughtered until two remained. They turned tail and ran toward the front gate. Lyn threw her blade at one and impaled the bandit easily. The last one was out of range but stopped at the gate. Lyn heard the sound of hooves as seven cavaliers ran through the gate. The lead one impaled the bandit with his lance. The rest looked scared as they came in. The cavaliers topped and took in the situation. Dan yelled out, "I did it!" The cavaliers cheered and paraded around him. Lyn drew her sword from the bandit and turned to the girl. Lyn nodded and said, "I'm tired..." She went up to her bed and hid once again from the troubles of the world.

Kent smiled and took a bite of his dinner. The people of the castle threw a feast for the remaining garrison. Gabriel had explained everything that had happened to Kent after he fainted. Even though Kent understood that Dan did nothing but kill a frightened man, he let him have his fun. After a heavy night of drinking and partying. Kent turned to Gabriel and asked, "Will you stay here for a while? At least until our garrison grows to it's original strength or better? Your men are sorely needed." Gabriel nodded in approval, not trusting herself to talk. Kent continued, "I'm afraid that when I'm drunk, I turn into my old partner Sain... He would have liked you..." Kent leaned forward and kissed her on the lips. "Hm, I see why Sain liked it so much!" He laughed and stumbled off to find his room. Gabriel smiled and said to herself, "Yeah, I'll stay..."

Entry three: Battle for the Gates of the World Author: Hoch_Anrufer
A brown hawk circled over the mountainous regions that were now Bern, searching with its incredible eyes for a small speck of food, yet found none. All the game had been scared off, and by the tremor it could hear from even in the air, it had a notion why. But yet, even its curiosity was not sated, as it flew lower to get a better look. After all, if it was yet another of the numerous earth quakes, it wouldn’t hurt it in the air. It was now just twenty feet above the ground, still circling, still looking for whatever had caused the lack of game. As it circled, it felt something different, something unnerving. And within a moment, it knew what it was. The arrow pierced its side, impaling it thoroughly, as the bird dropped to the ground, dead.
The longbowman of the Shinnlos tribe, Gut, sighed, and turned back to his comrades. “It was just a hawk, not a wyvern.” He hadn’t thought so before, but considering the fact that the Krieger tribe had tamed the wyverns, he wasn’t going to take any chances. Their chieftain, Malak, had issued the order that their entire army be moved to this wide spread valley, to battle with the dangerously growing Krieger clan. “We defeat them here,” the chieftain had said, “and our recognition will grow beyond the mountains, into the plains, and into the widest spreads of the tundra.” It was a large claim to be sure, but it was enough to ensure the loyalty of his soldiers.
The Shinnlos tribe was rather large, larger than the Krieger clan at least, and its army was about three hundred strong. Their location was near a rather large hill, upon which their archers were positioned, in order to guard from wyverns. Down below, soldiers, cavaliers, myrmidons, and even a few hired mercenaries lay in wait for the enemy. Malak sat upon his prize horse, Maras, wielding a lance in the middle of the cavalier column. ”They’re coming!” an archer beside Gut called, and as Gut looked more closely, he saw it to be true.
“Einfacher, all positions ready?” Elibe, the Krieger Clan leader, asked his hoplite officer, whom nodded in acknowledgment. “Yes sir. The myrmidons and archers are stationed behind the hoplites, waiting only to move in after the phalanx is broken,” the officer finished. “Good,” Elibe replied, as he placed his helmet atop his head, “I leave you to worry about things on the ground. The wyvern company will move in after Starker takes care of the archers.” With that, his wyvern, Drache, took wing, and flew up to the rest of the company, some twenty wyverns and their riders. The force of the Krieger clan was at least two hundred and seventy strong, not that much smaller than the Shinnlos, but still, every man counted.
“Forward!” Einfacher commanded the hoplites, the one hundred and fifty lance phalanx slowly moving forward at this command. The officer heard a command from the Shinnlos ranks, which followed with a volley of arrows. “Shields up!” he called, while raising his own. The arrows crashed against the well-made shields uselessly, making a ‘tink’ sound that he had come to love. “No damage.” he thought to himself, as the volley ceased, and the phalanx moved forward once again. Another order came from the Shinnlos lines, and what followed, Einfacher nearly laughed. A Calvary charge, led by Malak himself, was riding towards the phalanx, their line of soldiers running behind. “Fool,” Einfacher thought, as he ordered the phalanx to cease movements, and prepare. “Brace!” was all he said, and the meaning was clear.
The Krieger archers fired upon the Calvary, the volley bringing down some thirty horsemen, a successful volley, and then they fired yet again, bringing down twenty-two more. The remainder came ever closer to the phalanx, and then, with an epic crash, collided with the hoplite’s lances. “Break phalanx!” Einfacher called, still recovering from the blow, yet he stood up anyway, stabbing the first Shinnlos he could find, then swinging his javelin to the left, throwing the corpse into another cavalier, knocking the man off his horse. Battle clashed all around him, but his only concern at the moment was keeping himself alive, and saving as many of his men as possible. He knew the myrmidons would arrive soon, as well as the wyverns, once the archers were taken care of. As a soldier approached, Einfacher quickly drew back his lance, and threw it, impaling the other in the throat, killing him instantly. Not wasting a single moment, he drew his sword, and was in the fray. The cavalier he had knocked down was now on his feet, and swung downwards upon Einfacher, only for his blade to meet the officer’s. Einfacher retaliated with a slash across the stomach, and a stab to the chest, which was all that was needed, and left the man to die.
Gut looked down upon the carnage below, not believing the fact that the red-clad warriors of the Krieger clan, even at fewer numbers, were near slaughtering the green-clad Shinnlos. At that moment, he heard the whinny of a horse, and screams bellowed from his fellow archers. As he turned, he saw the source of the commotion, the regiment of the Krieger cavaliers, charging the flank of the archers. He quickly fired upon the lead cavalier, striking him in the shoulder, but still the man rode on. At this, Gut drew back in shock, as no one had survived a shot of him before, let alone not be knocked off his horse. The cavaliers rammed into the other archers, some seeming cavaliers having bows, and firing. Two arrows struck Gut in the chest, causing him to fall back from the sheer force and pain of it, What irony it was, that one whom had killed so many with but a single arrow, had fallen against the very thing that made him great.
Starker, the cavalier officer, pulled the arrow from his shoulder, grunting from the pain, but setting it aside, to deal with later. He looked up to see the wyvern company had descended, tearing up the Shinnlos even more than the infantry had. “We fight yet again!” Starker shouted out towards his men, making himself heard over the numerous screams below. There was no time to rest, but a battle to finish. He and his men charged down the slope, cutting off the Shinnlos from any means of escape. This battle would be won momentarily, and it opened up the gate-way into the plains, and after the plains, possibly the entire continent. “Sieg für Krieger!” Elibe shouted, in their language, translated into ‘Victory for Krieger!’

Entry four: Untitled Author: Shadowmancer_Lord
"Eliwood, what are you doing?" Hector yelled. "That sign is supposed to go over here, you're ruining the way it's supposed to look!" Everyone was getting ready for the big celebration of FEF's Gaiaversary, and the place was chaotic. They had somehow managed to commandeer about half the town for the festivities, and as you can imagine it was hard to decorate that much. Hector was trying to get the dance floor done, but... it really wasn't going too well. "Eliwood! That sign's supposed to be over the front door!" The young lord got down off the stepladder, grumbling. "Fine, fine. I'm coming." He grabbed the stepladder and brought it with him.
In the back room, Matthew could be seen stuffing his pockets- and his face- with food. Guy came up behind him quietly. "Hey Matthew, share?" he asked. The little thief jumped. "Waagh! Guy, don't do that!" he yelled. "Here, take some and be quiet. We don't want-" "Matthew!" A bellow came from the other room. "Get out here!" Matthew winced. "Lord Hector finding out," he finished. "Back door?" suggested Guy. Matthew nodded, and the two slipped out quietly. Hector stormed in. "Dammit, they got away. Well, Eliwood's still here. And you're staying here until we're done!" he yelled, noticing Eliwood try to slip away. Canas wandered in the door with a handul of streamers, and looked disappointed. "Oh... Lord Hector." he said. Hector glared at him. "I don't want to hear it, get those streamers up. Now." The shaman sighed. "Yes, sir." He started shooting bursts of dark magic, pinning streamers across the room.
In another part of town, Matthew and Guy had escaped to the cafe. Pent and Louise were decorating this building, and quite a few people including Mist, Oscar, Florina and for some odd reason Lyon were in the back helping with cooking. Matthew dumped his load on the table. "Here's more ingredients!" he exclaimed, smiling broadly. A yell rang out from across the room and Serra ran over and hugged Matthew. "Matthew! You've been avoiding me!" she yelled. "Why won't you ever just stop and say hi?" Matthew winced, sliding free. "When did she get here?" he muttered to Zihark, who was sitting nearby. The myrmidon shrugged. "She was here when I got here, she's been greeting people like that all day." Another squeal was heard as Erk walked in, and he recieved the same treatment. "Erk! I missed you so! I'm so happy we're all together again!" Erk squirmed, trying to get free. "Serra... can you let go? I can't breathe..."
The dance floor was now getting close to completion. Hector had gone out and threa- er, coerced Artur, Seth, Boyd, and Jill into helping. Volke was there too, having volunteered to DJ. "Alright, we're almost done, move it people! We have to be ready in time for the party!" Hector yelled. "Why do I have to be helping?" Boyd grumbled. "I wanted to go eat." Hector glared at him. "Well you're helping me now, so deal with it. Eliwood! Don't touch my Mountain Dew!" Eliwood appeared startled. "How'd you know?" My Mountain Dew senses were tingling," was the answer. "Artur, you idiot! You're going to fall off that-" *crash* "...ladder." Artur was laying on top of Jill, who pushed him back up and then got up herself. "Whoa, watch where you're falling."
At the Walmart down the street, there was chaos as multiple characters rushed up and down the aisles grabbing items. "Whoa, hey, I need those balloons!" Makalov exclaimed, reaching for some. Marcia dragged him off. "You don't even have any money. We're not going into debt again!" Down the next aisle, Rhys was perusing the medical section along with Moulder and Priscilla. "We should be prepared for a lot of injuries, you know how many idiots we have partying." He paused, then shrugged and swept the entire shelf into the cart. "Might as well be prepared." The food section of the store was also stuffed, this time with people you wouldn't expect. Shinon was looking through the steaks, Mia was looking at pork chops and Sephiran appeared to be... stealing hamburger?! Legault dashed up. "Lord Sephiran! Shameful!" he exclaimed. "Taking my job like that!" Sephiran looked rather nervous. "I'm afraid I don't know what you're... sorry, must go now." He dashed off, the Hurricane chasing after him. "No! I need job security!" "Amelia, standing nearby, giggled. "Ha... they're funny."
Renault was wandering down the road, appearing to not be interested in partying at the moment. Stefan and Leila both walked past him going in the opposite direction. The swordmaster paused and grinned at the theif, then jerked his head towards the bishop. Leila nodded, apparently having the same idea. The two snuck up behind him and grabbed him Renault's eyes opened wide. "Hey! What're you doing?" Stefan began to drag him off, assissted by Leila. "Maybe you'll be more ready to party if we get you drunk." Renault was dragged down the street to a nearby bar, Stefan laughing maniacally the entire time.
The remaining group of people were going off around town to find the ones that weren't coming to the party. Jaffar was pulled out of his house by a happily smiling Nino, looking rather displeased with the situation. Jill found Haar fallen asleep against a wall near the arcade, bashed him in the head and pulled him off to the party, the wyvern lord protesting the entire way. Even the laguz had gotten into it, with the assistance of some shov- er, gentle nudging from General Wallace. The only people who really hadn't shown up were most of the lords, and they were beginning to arrive. Lyndis came in first, dragging most of her retainers with her along with her grandfather, who seemed content to sit and watch. Ephraim and Eirika came next, followed by Tana and L'Arachel, the last seeming extremely happy. The last to come in was Ike, having had to spend an hour convincing Soren to come along along and finally telling the mage that if he didn't come along he was going to be tied to a bed and floated across the ocean to the next continent. Elincia came with him, as did Gatrie and Titania. Rolf had managed to get there on his own and was now looking completely lost, and rather nervous in the sea of unfamiliar faces. A light suddenly flashed out, and everybody stared. It appeared Stefan and Leila had succeeded in getting renault drunk, as he was now breakdancing on top of the table. Everything was quiet for a moment, then everybody burst into laughter. Volke started up a song, and the Gaiaversary of FEF had officially begun!

Entry five: Pink Sugar Heart Attack Author: Danni-chan
“Ah…!” Lyn fell to her knees. Lundgren…he was just too strong for her. She gripped her arm tightly; the wound was severe and it bled heavily. Her vision was even beginning to blur a little…The last fleeting image she saw before she lost consciousness was Kent running towards her and calling her name, and she slipped into darkness. “I’m sorry…”
Kent held her in his arms, cursing Lundgren for his power. None could match him. The situation seemed hopeless. His lady’s granduncle smirked at him, and readied a deadly-looking spear. Kent, leaving Lyn with Serra (luckily, Lyn was unconscious and didn’t have to hear the nervous Serra prattle on even more, if that was even possible), stood his ground and braced himself for the attack. Until…
“STOP!” Lucius quickly slid between Kent and the villainous Lundgren.
”Lucius? What are you doing? He’s too—“
Lundgren, who had stopped charging due to the surprise, interrupted Kent with a malicious laugh. “A little monk? Is that the best you can do?” But Lucius had a secret weapon. He hadn’t told anyone about it, afraid his secret would be exposed…but the time had come to reveal his true identity. From a pocket in his robe, he drew a…
”A wand?!” Kent and Lundgren stared at him, wide-eyed in disbelief. It wasn’t just a wand…it was a pink wand, topped with a decorative heart. Serra paused from her job of healing Lyn, squealed, and began chattering about how adorable Lucius’s wand was.
And his foolproof plan had only just begun.
“Elimine Prism Power Make-up!!” he yelled, brandishing the wand, and he began to spin around pointlessly as brightly-colored lights engulfed him. He emerged with pigtails and a sailor suit, covered in ribbons (pink, of course!). “I am Bishonen Senshi Sailor Lucius!” announced Lucius proudly. “Defender of love and destroyer of all evil! And that means you,” he added, winking and posing in an attempt to be cute. “In the name of Saint Elimine, I will punish you!”
”What the—“ he started, but Lundgren was too slow to react.
”PINKU SUGAR!” screamed Lucius in a heavy Japanese accent, spinning pointlessly once again.
”HEART!” He suddenly stopped, pointing the wand in the direction of a dumbfounded Lundgren,
“ATTACKU!!!” and a blast of pink light emerged from the little wand and hit the villain in the heart, sending Lundgren flying backwards.
”NOOOOOooooo!!” The usurper’s body crumbled into dust as the light quickly swallowed him up.
There was a long, long silence as everyone stared at Lucius, who had a hand on his hip and the other triumphantly holding his wand above his head.

Entry six: Safehaven Author: Kizeira Pronunciation Guide
Calin: Colin Cooai: Co-eye Denem: Denim Hakkore: Huh-core Peresh: Perish Seac: Seek
A teenager went with his younger sister northwest, up out of the southern mountains of Bern, fleeing for Pherae. His hand was clasped around her wrist, willing her to keep up. Mist started to recede the farther down the mountain they went. At this pace, it would be a two day journey to Pherae, but with some luck they hoped to meet up with the Guard or some other ally before then. Anyone. Anyone safe. Night quickly fell. The two rested under the trees, as the mountain was becoming a forest. Their stamina was drained and they desired sleep, but didn’t dare lie down. They had to keep moving. But the brother learned, quickly enough, that being still was not what either of the siblings needed for their mental state at the moment. “Calin,” said his sister, Mitzy. Calin looked in her direction, trying to read her face in the pale moonlight. She continued. “We’re not going to see them again, are we?” Unnerved and shivering, Calin closed his eyes, searching for words. Her mind was one the same thing his was—their parents. Scarce hours ago, their father had ordered them—Calin, Mitzy, and their mother—to flee from home. A large group of bandits were approaching their secluded house for some reason or another, and his father was taking precautions. They went, leaving him behind. He promised to meet up with them. But after a day—and no sign of their father—the bandits were in sight behind them. Their mother bade them to continue on while she stayed behind, most likely to distract the enemy. After some fuss, Calin grudgingly obeyed orders. They didn’t hear from her again, either. So here they were, three days away from home, and approaching a second night where they might not be able to sleep. Calin replied, finally, shaking in the nightly chill. “Leave that in the Uncreated Being’s hands, Mitz.” Silence took over each of them; the only noises their shivered breathing. And suddenly, barking in the distance. Calin and Mitzy shot up, the heat of adrenaline coursing through their bodies warming them. “They’ve already caught up?!” Mitzy squeaked. Calin grabbed her hand, “Come on! We have to go.” Mitzy returned his grip and they started to run through the trees. They continued on at the quickest pace possible, fighting their way through branches and foliage, and stumbling over things they could not see. For however long they went, the enemy with their baying hounds drew nearer still. Until, at last, a wave of hope washed over them. “Is that—?” Mitzy whispered. Firelight. Laughter drifted up from the area with the orange glow. Calin and Mitzy were desperate. Praying that these were allies, the siblings broke into a hard run, quickly falling upon the campsite, disturbing the merriment. In the clearing was a group of about a dozen people—nobles, mercenaries, travelers—all with the look and dress of many different lands. Some sat close to the fire, some away. Others tended to their steeds, or had their backs against a tree. Silence dawned on every one of them, and their eyes fixated on the teenagers. For a slow second nothing happened, but all at once movement started again. Mitzy screamed, falling on Calin, and kicked at the snarling dog that was attacking her heels. Calin, his sword having long since been in his hand, lunged at the beast. The dog avoided his attack, but changed its target from Mitzy to Calin. It barked madly, barring its teeth at the boy. The twang of a bow shattered its incessant noise, and it let out a yelp and whine as an arrow sank into its side. Calin glanced back long enough to see a woman reloading her bow. Returning his attention to the dog, he finished it off, something he was reluctant to do. Mitzy had regained her balance, and turned her attention to the group, all of whom were on their feet now. “Lords and Ladies!” She pleaded. “Please! We have enemies close on our tail. We seek safety!” A man with graying black hair, who appeared to be their leader, aimed his question at Calin. “How many? And their status?” Calin wasn’t sure, but he gave an educated guess. “Twenty—maybe thirty brigands, a small part of a much larger clan. Armed and possibly one-night’s sleep deprived. With dogs.” The man took a hard, lasting look at Calin, but started to shout out orders. “Peresh! Quickly take Cooai and scout what you can.” “Yes sir.” “Denem! Take these two and get them out of sight and smell, then come back.” “Yes sir!” “Hakkore…!” A young woman with an azure ribbon in her hair approached the siblings. She was apparently Demem. “Follow me!” she said. Between Calin and Mitzy, the same thoughts and emotions flooded. Safety. They followed Denem away from the campsite, deeper into the woods. At one point, Denem stopped, told them to wait there on alert, then left. Sinking to the ground, Calin and Mitzy exchanged glances. The word echoed through their hearts again. Safe. “We’re okay,” Mitzy said in a hushed tone, a hint of awe in her voice. Calin smiled and put his arm around her shoulder. Giving a nod, he released his breath.
----------------------
The group had apparently won their battle with ease and few injuries. Afterward, they met with Calin and Mitzy. “My name is Calin, and this is my sister, Mitzaelia, but she is known as Mitzy. We are from the southern mountains of Bern, but have recently had to flee our home due to bandit threat. We lost touch with our father and mother along the way, and have yet to hear from them. We have had no sleep for almost two days now, so I ask that you excuse me if I cannot grasp the concept of your questions, sir.” The leader nodded. “Well, we’ll keep it simple then, shall we? I am Teir, former Captain of the Pheare Guard.” In the morning, after Calin and Mitzy had had much-needed sleep, Calin was called to go talk with Teir again, but Mitzy wasn’t. And that’s when Mitzy got to know Denem. “Hi! Sit down. I want to do your hair.” “Wha—uh—O..kay…” Mitzy didn’t have much choice in the matter, and Denem seemed determined to sit her down and talk. Before she could object, Denem was pulling her braid out. “So how old are you?” Denem asked. “Er—Twelve,” Mitzy replied, deathly afraid of what questions Denem might ask. She did not want to answer questions about her parents right then. But Denem seemed to know this, and stayed clear of touchy areas. “Twelve? You look a lot older than that…” In the meantime, Teir had been getting details from Calin about what he knew of the bandits. Calin got to meet a few of the group, such as Cooai the Tactician, and Teir’s wife Hakkore, who was a Sniper. After talk and debate, Teir decided that they would go north with Calin and Mitzy and get them to Pherae. It would be three days with their group to get there. Calin and Mitzy were extremely grateful for the escort, but Teir told them to think nothing of it. Calin made good friends with Peresh the cavalier, and Cooai in that time. Calin and Peresh had swordplay duels as practice. Mitzy came to better know Denem and Hakkore. Mitzy, being an archer herself, found it a joy to see Hakkore’s precision with a bow. One spectacle in the camp was the nightly games of chess with Cooai. So far he was unbeatable. And that’s when Calin challenged him… “…Checkmate.” Calin stared at the board. “What!? How did you—?” Cooai motioned to an area on the board. Calin gaped at it. “Bu—Wha—! Graah! Fire and torment!” Mitzy, one of the onlookers, snickered. “You can always beat me, but when it comes to a seasoned tactician…” “Oh, be quiet, Mitz—” Calin’s face lit up, as if he’d just had an excellent idea. Putting on a sly grin, he stood up. “Here, why don’t you come play a round, Mitzaelia?” Mitzy looked at Cooai. “May I?” Cooai was eyeing Calin. “I do not like the look on your brother’s face.” Mitzy sat down in her brother’s place. “Don’t bother with him. You won’t know for at least an hour. Let’s play!” And Mitzy played Cooai. But when she found herself severely cornered, she did exactly as Calin predicted. “Hey,” Cooai caught Mitzy’s hand. “You can’t do that.” Mitzy looked. He was right. She was about to put her knight two spaces off course. “Oh, I’m sorry. Here.” She put it three spaces off course. “You can’t do that either!” “Uh, yes I can. The rules say I can.” “No, little lady. The rules say you move like this.” Mitzy pretended to look utterly intrigued at his words. “Oh, oh! You’re using those old rules! My, I didn’t realize you were that old.” “What—!” “You see I am playing by the updated Mitzy rules.” Cooai froze, then closed his mouth, catching her game. He crossed his arms. “Oh my! The Mitzy rules. I see now.” “Yes,” nodded Mitzy in all seriousness. “And the Mitzy rules say that when the opponent is being mean, I can do this…” Cooai glanced sidelong at the smug Calin.
-----------------------------
The group met no enemies on the route to Pherae, and entered the nearest city with ease. It was familiar to Calin, having had been there a number of times. Mitzy had been there, too, but not so much as Calin. Teir got rooms at the Inn for the group. But in the middle of the night, a great commotion rose up throughout the city. “My Lord Teir!” Said a soldier who had come to the Inn. “Our Captain and Commander are down. Our men are now in disorder. We request your leadership immediately.” Everyone was awake, it seemed. The commotion was bandits—bandits attacking the city. And even with Pherae’s trained troops, their defense was being severely wounded. Teir was in the lounge. Most everyone lodging at the Inn were in the lounge. He nodded. “I’m coming.” He turned to Cooai and Peresh. “Cooai, come with me. Peresh, I want our men in the battle. Leave the women, Seac, and Calin.” “Yes sir.” “What?!” Calin objected. “Leave me here!?” Teir acted as if he didn’t have time to argue with him. “I got you here alive. I’m not about to get you here and have you killed.” “No! I brought this upon you—upon the city. It’s only fair that I fight just like the rest of these men.” “You are staying here, Ca—“ Suddenly Mitzy sped out the door, into the darkness, her bow slung over her back. Teir and Calin reacted in the same way. “Mitzy!” Calin now felt what Teir did about one person going, and another staying, though he did not associate it. In his mind, Calin himself would go out, but by no means did he want his younger sister doing the same and landing in harm’s way. Mindlessly, he ran after her. Calin found her in the now abandoned watchtower near the city gates, where there was a clear view of the battle… That is, with what little moon and torchlight there was. “Mitzy!” Calin hissed, coming off the last step of the ladder. Mitzy kept her eyes fixed on the battle, a good ways away. “Why are they after us, Cahl? Why us? Our family?” “That’s something I intend to ask Father when we see him again. Now—“ “You know, you looked just like him.” Calin was just about to order her back to the Inn, but this remark caught him off guard. “I…what?” An arrow strayed dangerously close to the lookout, and Calin pulled Mitzy down, out of range. There she answered him. “Back at the Inn, just now,” she whispered. “When you were defying Lord Teir, you looked just like Father, and… well, it gave me an idea.” “An…idea?” Calin blinked. “Wha—no, Mitzy! You have to get back to the Inn!” Mitzy huffed. “I know… I know…” Another wave of commotion rose up from the ground level. Calin and Mitzy looked over the banister to find out. The enemy had broken through the gates and was now terrorizing the city, but in small numbers. Calin pulled his sister back down. “Plagues! Nevermind! It’s now too dangerous to go down there. We’ll have to stay put.” But in a few minutes, their outpost was being attacked. It was a single man, chopping away at the base. “Mitzy! Your bow!” Mitzy knew. The thought of killing someone did not settle well with Mitzy, but Calin was saying, “Attack him!” The first arrow missed, but it caught the brigand’s attention. From one of his companions he acquired a torch. “Oh, so you wanna play that game, do you?” and he set the outpost on fire. Mitzy released another arrow that nicked the man’s shoulder, but he was gone. “Come on!” Calin said, heading for the ladder. “I’d rather take my chances with the enemy than this dying watchtower!” On the ground, the siblings began their way back to the Inn, keeping in the shadows and alleyways all they could. More buildings and houses were being set on fire, but the townsfolk were coming out and defending their city. At one point, a brigand barred the sibling’s way. He didn’t notice them at first, but when he heard their footsteps, he turned. Already having an arrow on the string, Mitzy readied and fired. She hit him square in the shoulder. He cried out and cursed. “Why you little pipsqueaks! Why I…” The rest of what he said was unintelligible, but one thing was clear—he was mad and he was attacking them. Calin pushed Mitzy toward the alley entrance. “Go!” He hissed. “I’m right behind you!” She ran and turned the corner, then looked back. In a moment or two, Calin rushed out as fast as he could, but limped. Calin and Mitzy took an alternate route to the Inn, and met up with no one else. When inside, they dropped to the floor, shaken. Denem and Hakkore were there, as if awaiting their arrival. Mitzy went to her brother as he rolled up his pant leg. He had a large, fresh cut there, the explanation for his limp. “What happened?” Mitzy asked, looking around for a means to patch up his wound. “He hit me, I hit him, then I ran.” Calin replied, panting. “Good,” said Hakkore. “That means you get to obey orders and stay here.”
----------------------------------
No one slept much that night, but the battle was won and the bandits driven back. Pherae had prevailed, yet again. And at dawn, everyone was out and about. Mitzy was up and out, too. The idea her brother had unknowingly given her…well, she could test it now. All around, deaths and casualties were being accounted for. Among these, Mitzy hoped to find someone… hoped to find her father. That was the idea Calin gave her. Her father would have had the same chivalrous attitude that Calin had; the conviction that the bandit attack was his fault. And to atone for that, he would join the battle. If he was here in Pherae, Mitzy prayed to find him among the living. But doubts started to fill her mind, so she tried to be reasonable yet hopeful at the same time. Many of the men Mitzy saw were false alarms; from the back they resembled her father, but their face was not his. One man, however, locked eyes with Mitzy as she went past. She froze, scarcely believing what she was seeing. The man pushed past whatever person he had been talking to, never taking his eyes off of the girl. “Mitzy?” Mitzy’s heart leaped. “Father!?” She cried.

Prologue: The Rising of a Darker Army
War had finally ended. The war, which began so long ago by the nation of Daein was over. Daein had once been the strongest military power in the continent, but they were slowly diminishing one by one to a group of mercenaries. They were known as Griel’s mercenaries.
Under the command of Lord Ike and Princess Elincia, the mercenaries gradually grew stronger and stronger with each passing month until they had enough military strength to take on and defeat Daein’s military of generals, horsemen, and bishops. The king of Daein, Ashnard, fell to the company of beorc and laguz and the war ended.
However, The Black Knight, the most feared knight in the entire continent, somehow survived the siege of Daein and headed east, into the mountains. There, the knight recovered his health and assembled an army far greater than those of Ashnard’s army. At a rapid pace, regular archers became snipers, horsemen assumed the rank of paladin, and Mages trained themselves into Sages and Bishops. The Black Knight’s task was to establish an army strong enough to overwhelm the army assembled by Lord Ike and the people of Crimea.
The task of assembling and training survivors of the war and those who feared the growth of Crimea’s political and military power took five years to complete. The Black Knight had grown much stronger since his last encounter with Lord Ike and his abilities had increased tenfold. He wanted revenge for the destruction of Daein; he wanted to destroy the leader of the Greil mercenaries.
One evening, on the top of Orpheus’s mountain, the Black Knight overlook at his subordinates training below, his second-in-command, General Ulysses, was at his side, carrying a map of the continent under his right arm. A tall man of 23, he had been by the Black Knight’s side since the beginning Daein’s conquest of Crimea, but was his military advisor then and was forbidden from actual combat. Now, he had as much power as the Black Knight in terms of leadership skills and military units. He wore a smug look on his face.
“So, most gracious leader, are you pleased with the efforts of our men. These five years have been excruciating, but all of them are much stronger than those of Griel’s son, Ike,” he said slyly.
The Black Knight turned to face his companion and exclaimed, in his usual dark, whispery voice, “I have indeed been impressed with the amount of work these rebels have been able to produce. However, after experiencing the power in which Griel’s son possess first hand, this army had no chance in hell to defeat the mercenaries, my friend. In due time, we will commence an attack on the nation of Begnion, which houses much of Crimea’s military strength. If that nation is in unable to fight, we will have the upper-hand in our rebellion.”
General Ulysses looked at his superior, slightly confused. “Attack the nation of Begnion instead of Crimea? I understand what you are getting at, but I am not truly convinced that this particular strategy will work. There are many of Ike’s mercenaries guarding the eastern border of Begnion, one of whom is that traitor, Jill, the daughter of the deceased Wyvern Lord, Shiharam, at Tor Garen--”
“My point exactly, General Ulysses.” The Black Knight took the map away from his second-in-command, and opened it, pointing to Tor Garen. “This is where we will make our first assault. Jill was foolish for joining the Griel mercenaries in the first place, and we will use the same strategy used on Ike’s army to us at the beginning of Daein’s fall.”
Ulysses shrugged, and thought deeply for a moment. “I do remember hearing General Haru of the Sniper division saying that one of his command was overseeing the fortress from the mountains. He reported to me that she was the only one guarding it at the moment, and there in nobody else around for miles. Did you commission for that to occur?”
“I did, my friend,” replied the Black Knight. “It was necessary precaution to make before sending our men into a battle we have no chance in winning otherwise. Tor Garen is the barrier between what was once Daein and Begnion, but it is also the barrier next to the mountains. If Tor Garen falls, our army can surge into Begnion with little defense in the heart of their capital.”
Pleased with explanation, General Ulysses rolled the map up again, grinning. “In that case, shall we commence?”
“Yes. Leave General Garrison’s and Yvark’s brigade alone for now. The rest are under your command. Go now, and destroy Begnion once and for all!”
“YES SIR!” And with that, General Ulysses left the Black Knight on Orpheus’s Mountain, whom awaited the news of the beginning of a third war between the laguz and the beorc.
