To explain myself, I work in a library. As a result, I end up reading much more than I normally would, just because of how many patrons bring suggestions to me or stuff that just crosses the desk and looks interesting.

Does anyone have any recommendations for something to read this summer? I've already got a copy of the new Harry Potter on hold, as well as Ariana Franklin's "City of Shadows" and Max Brooks' "World War Z". I'd love to have some more ideas, though.

And what's everyone else reading? Do you do a reading list for the summer?

Well, honestly, I don't read too often. I like to, but only when I'm in the mood. I really don't have any suggestions for good reads... sweatdrop

Check my profile under These Are a Few, sub-section Literature, for a non-complete but comprehensive list. I have worked in a bookstore for the last 5+ years and have been a bibliophile since early childhood.

Anything by Douglas Adams is amazing... also the Piers Anthony "Xanth" Novels...
I love Michael Crichton and I recommend Jurassic Park, The Lost World, Sphere, Timeline and Prey...
The DaVinci Code... The entire Sherlock Holmes series...
When it comes to more reading I enjoy a lot of graphic novels... Sin City, Watchmen, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen... Umm... and Yeah...

I've read most of the Douglas Adams books, though I've been curious about the Xanth novels for a long time. I'm also a Crichton fan, having read and reread Jurassic Park and Sphere in particular. I was really disappointed with the JP movies. crying I read Sherlock Holmes obsessively in high school and I won't read DaVinci Code. It's a matter of pride, honor and sanity associated with the sheer volume of people in ED:M&R who read that book/saw the movie and are under the impression that it's anything but fiction.

Fantasy is good. ^_^ Have you read any of the Brian Jacques Redwall series? Those are really good, too. As for manga, I've only read Angel Sanctuary and a few others.

Omg!
They have turned one of my favourite books of all time into a movie!

The book's called Northern Lights, by Phillip Pullman and the series is called His Dark Materials trilogy or something.

But the movie, which has been given another name, is coming out in December. Can't wait =D

But yeah, that's a really good trilogy.

The Pullman trilogy's on my list of books to read! If you find out the title of the movie, let me know, okay? I'd love to see that!

Gone with the wind, if you have yet to read it.

In Watermelon Sugar by Richard Brautigan

I haven't been able to get a hold of that one, but my English teacher mentioned it and it seemed... interesting

I've never read Gone with the Wind, nor seen the movie. I'll have to see if our library has a copy floating around somewhere. What's the second one about? I've never heard of it.
