A brown colored stallion stood sleeping in a clearing. A grunt escaped his throat every time a bird disturbed him. It seemed the little things thought they could braid his hair. His dreams were plain and boring like his life sometimes was. The sun was annoyingly burning his back so he awoke and lazily trotted to a tree for shade with a large yawn.((Excuse the title and short start. x3))

The trees rustled as two pairs of tiny hooves pounded the ground. A feline like roar could be heard as a skunk coloured mare broke through the shrubbery that outlined the clearing. She was running as if the hounds of hell were on her heels. Her movements were oddly graceful and fluid as she leaped over a rather small log so that she wouldn't fall.
A mountain lion charged after her, her teeth bared. This female was hunting for her new family and she'd be damned if she didn't catch the little pony. She was beginning to gain on her, a smirk playing at her lips.
Flower didn't even glance back, her eyes wide with terror, and little beads of sweat were running down her as her adrenaline surged. She hardly noticed the large stallion as she raced past him, turning on a six pence to go around a tree so that she would have something between herself and the ferocious cat. She was quite tired, and her leg muscles were burning and beginning to seize. Oh this just wasn't her day!

With a start Copper awoke. Only a little flash of the scene played before his eyes and it only took him a second to jump into action. Before the lioness could get any further after the little pony he jumped in front of the great cat. He reared angrily and blocked her view of her prey. A low growl was the message he recieved but he didn't budge, he growled back. It was a low warning rumble that continued to grow as the lion inched closer. Copper did not look back yet to see if the little pony was safe, he simply glared at the mountain lion, furiously trying to burn holes into her pelt with his eyes. Of course it didn't work, but perhaps the look was enough?
The next few seconds were intense silence besides angry rumbles from both sides. But that soon ended when the cat launched herself at the brown stallion that had merely been sleeping moments before.
((Eee! Great response! Gave me something to type. <333
Edit: Hope you don't mind I took the role of the mountain lion? confused ))

Flower collapsed behind a small black berry bush, on the verge of overheating. Her heart was pounding so hard that she felt it in her temple. Her breath came in short ragged gasps as she laid on her side. She just couldn't make herself move any more. If the lioness wanted her, and came after her now, she was finished.
Hearing only the mountain lion's growl she clamped her eyes shut and braced herself for the inevitable. She was so focused on her attacker that anything the male said or did was beyond her. The spasm in her leg was still clamping down as hard as ever, but it was a minute pain compared to what she was expecting.

All Copper could do was simply buck around trying to get the creature off his back. For one second a spot towards the little mare was open, and the cat took advantage of this. She pounced lightly to the ground and prowled dangerously toward the bushes. Copper noticed this instantly and was upon her in seconds. Probably the only thing the lion saw or felt was a rain of hooves and biting from the stallion. But she was in a protective stance as well and he got a facefull of claws and sharper teeth. Copper was beginning to doubt he'd win this as his legs got more and more scratched and sore from moving so much. Another long claw got hold of one of the feathers that hung in his mane and he struggled unhappily to get free. The string snapped and the feather fell, with it went Copper, right on top of the lioness. He heard a large crack that hadn't come from him. He got back up and trampled over her as best as he could. Finally her bruises seemed to make her give in and she began to limp off the other way. Copper chased her heatedly, harrassing her until he was sure she would not come back. He stomped in triumph and whinnied happily to himself, but he also let out warning sounds to the trees, daring anything else to come and fight him. When nothing took his challenge except the wind he realised how quiet it was. He rushed quickly back to the battle scene. Copper looked around carefully for the pony the lion had been chasing. Finally he found the poor thing. The only thing he could say was, "Are you alright?"

The mare flinched and opened her eyes slowly as she tried to get to her feet, but failed, her joints like jelly. All she could do was look at the stallion, her mouth moving but no words coming forth. She was trembling and frightened beyond all belief. "A-Ah'm f-f-f-f-fine...an' you?" She asked, swallowing hard at a lump of nerves that had welled in her throat. She didn't even notice the small gash just above her hock on her left leg. But that was the least of her worries, this male had put himself in harm's way for her and was injured...all becuase of her. Her ears pinned back and her sapphire eyes lit with regret.
"A-Ah didn' mean t-ta get yeh int'a a-a-anythin'. I-If I knew ya were 'round I'd n-no' 'ave brough' this to ya." She said, feeling horrid about it. "B-Bu than'-ya." She told him with a nod of her head. She moved too quickly and felt lightheaded and she blinked hard a few times and seemed to be focusing internally as if she were trying not to pass out, which was exactly what she was doing.

Copper began to worry deeply. She did not in fact look ok at all. "Shhh, s' ok. You'll be alright...don't...don't move. I'm ok. Just relax." He said worriedly. He took deep breaths to stay calm, trying to think what to do. He didn't know how to get water to her, and he knew she needed just a bit of it. If she had too much it probably wouldn't be good. He didn't want to leave her, in fear that she might die or be eaten by something. "Just rest fer now. I'll figure out sumthin' to do." he said soothingly.
The bush wasn't providing much shade for her so he flopped down next to her. His large shadow along with the bushes was hopefully enough to at least block the sun from her eyes. It was good however that the sun was setting, but would she survive the night? "What do ya' need? I'll do my best ter get it..." he said still trying to think of ways to get her water. Then he regretted asking because then she would have to speak.

Flower felt horrid now, and turned beet red. "Ah'm fine...jus'..." She closed her eyes and tried to take in deep, long breaths. "Dun wanna be a both'a." She mumbled, too preoccupied to be nervous or wary of him. Hence why her speech impediment was gone. As the air grew cooler it cooled her skin, which helped lower her core body temperature. So at least she had that going for her. But her head began to clear after a while, her adrenaline dieing down a bit. She still felt ill however and that her head was becoming increasingly heavy. At this point it was almost too heavy to hold up. "Ah jus' neet ter..." She laid her head down and sighed, still trying to get as much oxygen to her head as possible. "Damn cat." She muttered.
She was loosing a lot of electrolytes through her sweat and needed any sort of liquid available. Berries would be good for her sugar and electrolytes and they could possibly help her with dehydration, but she'd definately need water somehow. Instinctively she knew she needed water and thus tried to get up, but her legs were as wobbly as a newborn's and she nearly fell back into a laying position. "Thanks but...yeh've done more than enough...jus' a little hot." She added.

"No...you're not fine. You're not being a bother at all. Just stay where you are, I'll be right back!" He said and got to his feet again. He quickly rushed to the nearest stream he knew. First he soaked himself in it, maybe he'd be able to cool her down by shaking some of the water off of himself onto her. He quickly trotted back and shook. Water drops fell lightly on the little mare. "Look...I dunno how to get water to 'ya fer drinkin'. Do 'ya know anythin' I could get that might help?" He asked looking around. He knew sweets would help, maybe anything juicy. He knew of an apple tree not too far off but wasn't sure if he'd be able to reach the apples. He supposed he'd have to try.

The mare made a soft noise of appreciation in her throat as he sent cool water onto her, soaking into her fur. She reached up and gently lipped a few berries, knowing she needed sugar. She ate as many as she could reach and found it was a bit easier to hold her head up, so she made quick work of everything she could reach. She wished her two-legger was here, she always carried water with her. The fact that the lioness might return was the least of her worries at the moment. "Was there any moss in that stream you went to?" She asked softly, knowing that it absorbed water like a sponge. She needed something, anything.

Copper thought for a while. "I duuno. Tell me why 'ya need it and I'll do my best ter find it." he said and shifted around getting ready to run for the stream. The sun was already setting and he figured he'd have to hurry. He payed no attention to his own wounds. In fact he'd completely forgotten they were there. Copper wondered curiously if he could reach the apple tree before nightfall.

"I don't need it per se." She told him. "It just holds water well." She explained softly. Now that the sun was setting and her mind was getting sharper a knot formed in her stomach. There were really large predators that came out at night. She wished that she wasn't so helpless. The last thing she wanted to be was some damsel in distress...or a distressing damsel as it seemed, to her, she was being. Even though she was cooling off she wasn't sure if she should test her legs or not. 'I will when he's gone, so that way if I fall I won't look stupid.' She thought.

"Alright, I'll be back." he said then darted off. When he reached the stream he looked around for some moss. He mumbled to himself as he searched and finally he found some underneath a big tree by the water. He ripped a clump out carefully. Now he didn't know what to do. He hesitated before dipping the moss into the water then starting ot run back. Only then did he realize how tired he was. His legs were rather scabbed from the earlier battle but he pushed the thoughts of himself from his mind. Copper placed the soaked moss beside her when he got back. If that was enough for her then he'd stay to protect her through the night, but if it wasn't he'd go and get the apples.

The mare forced a smile, the gash on her hock all ready beginning to clot. "Thank you." She breathed before she lipped the moss, chewed on it, and let the water slid down her throat. The mouthful of water and smattering of berries seemed to be enough to at least pull her out of the worst of it. She looked him over, her brow knitted in concern. "Please...lie down and rest." She told him, feeling absolutely horrible. He had done so much for her all ready and now she couldn't do anything for him. Or could she? If she could muster up the strength to get up and fetch her two-legger she'd probably have some salves to put on his cuts and get him cleaned up.

Copper looked down at himself. "I'll be fine." he said and lowered himself to the ground. He was used to sleeping standing up but his legs were killing him. "Need anything else? You should get some rest..." he said in concern. As he looked around him he realized that the last bits of sun were gone and some stars were beginning to inch their way into view.
