A friend of mine's mother threw away her books! She had had them for years too! Luckliy she saved them from getting burned. She asked another friend & I to hang on to them, but is that insane? I feel so sorry for her. What's your opinion?

I'm sorry did you say... burned?? Since when does anyone in their right mind burn books? Or take away the beautiful gift of reading from their child, for that matter? What's the whole story, though, what kind of books was she reading? Something her mom found offensive or wrong?

They were manga. Kodacha & Fruits Basket. She has had them for several years, & her mom knew about them too. Her mom read them for Crist's Sake! I don't know what got into her mom, but it was just something out-of-character that surprised all of us.

That's cruel and unusual punishment if you ask me. Granted I thought that just when my mom's boyfriend took all my books away from me for a month (I snuck some reading material - not that he knows that) and that was horrible

I think if someone took my books away, I would melt, followed by deciding to run away screaming and living at someone else's book filled house or a library.
As for burning books, many people have done it throughout history in an attempt to remove the influences of past rulers from people and that in itself is wrong, but it is for a purpose. Burning your child's books for no good reason is a waste and many worse things I choose not to say here.

A mother getting rid of her child's books? How old is your friend? Also, burning books because you don't like them is rather extreme. But, it has happened quite often in the past if you think about it.

*dies* That would be about the worst cruel and unusual punishment for me....I love my books very dearly. For them to get burned....*shivers*.
Yes, we would say that burning your child's book is a felony. Very good way of putting it smile
It's very good that you saved your friend's books, though. Very good work.
