In the middle of the forest was a pool of water that flowed from a few small streams which fed it. Moss surrounded the leaf-litter and a large willow stood over the crystalline waters. Frogs chirped and turtles peered up from the deapths as fish circled and spun. The light was dappled at best and a cool breeze managed to waft through the trees.
A rather squat mare lay on her side, her eyes closed lightly, and a soft smile curving her lips. The skunk coloured female was merely enjoying a bit of solitude and listening to the symphony of the dragonflies as well as the wood, leopard, and bull frogs.
The wood frog with it's reedy call, the leopard's more of a croak and the massive bullfrogs with it's deep, low, bellow. The dragonflies droned out a melodic hum. Their song, or so they seemed to be singing, was of the new season and the joy that it brought to them. A rabbit greedily ate a spring of clover as it reveled in the surrounding sounds.
The mare sighed contentidly and a soft, sweet melody escaped her lips.
"I follow the night. Can't stand the light. When will I begin to live again. One day I'll fly away. Leave all this to yesterday. What more could your love do for me. When will love be through with me. Why live life from dream to dream. And dread the day when dreaming ends. One day I'll fly away. Leave all this to yesterday. Why live life from dream to dream and dread the day when dreaming ends.
One day I'll fly away. Fly fly awaaaaaay." It was a soft melodic song she heard her mother singing so often when she was young.

Flower nodded. "Yes two leggers are good for a nice scratch I'll have to admit." She agreed with a soft smile. The mare knew all too well what the filly was getting at. People still implored how cute she was even as an adult. The humans she had been around when she was young always climbed all over her and hugged her all the time. It drove her absolutely mad!
"I understand what you mean. I used to get hugs, pats, forced to eat treats from the little humans that lived on the ranch I was born at. The older kids were the worst though, when they got their legs about them they'd be put on my back and lead around...ot they'd lead me around themselves and of course I had to do as they said." She explained, an ear going back at a forty-five degree angle.
"The other Usdias were just as bad. My father was the only stallion in the place, the rest were geldings so there weren't any other foals around. The mares were the worst though, most were old spinsters put out to pasture. They'd nuzzle me and tell me how sweet, darling, or adorable I was." She said with distaste.
Her heart warmed when Sylmeria mentioned she was looking for a mother. She couldn't imagine what her life would have been like in her mother's absence. On second thought, she could and she didn't like it. She wanted nothing more than to offer the little one a place to stay, but wasn't sure how to go about it. Flower decided that if the filly wanted to, she'd bring up the topic herself. After all she didn't want to frighten the filly away if she just wanted to be friends. Either option was just fine with her.
