Well I've been a Christian for a year or two now and I want to go deeper into my knowlegde and what not. So I've been trying to read the Bible to go deeper into my faith and every thing, but I'm having trouble staying focused and to keep reading. My youth pastor told me to read only 5 verses a day, but I cant even do that. I just dont know how to keep reading. The problem I have is, I'll read and I'll keep it up good for a couple of days, and then I'll stop reading, and it takes me for what seems like forever to start reading again. Does any one know what I could do to keep focused and reach my goal of finishing the Bible?

what helps me is to think of something one of my religion teachers told me, "the bible is God's love letter to you" If you think of everything as God is writting that in a letter to you sometimes that helps

also, don't get upset if you dont get alot out of the bible, if while reading several verses or even a chapter you only get one thing out of it thats all He really wanted you to understand at that time

bottom line, don't stress over it and take it slowly even if you have to do one verse a day

hope that helped! smile

Get a book. I've got one called An angel called Mervin. It looks babyish but it actually isn't. Would seriously recommend it. I read parts out of it and it really explained the dramas and the exciting bits like the fact that David had sex with someones wife and killed her husband to cover it up and two girls had sex with their dad to carry on their legacy. And relationships between the people in the bible.

It kind of tells it like a soap opera or a story but not babyish.

If you know that something exciting happens at a certain point in the bible from a book then look up the passage. It seriously works.

By the way if anyone does read "An angel called Mervin" don't get put off by the boring beginning, it gets better.

hey there
i wouldnt have said 5 verses a day. i've been getting into the word myself heaps lately. but slow and steady i agree is the ticket. you shouldnt be pushing yourself to try to read to an expectation- just try one verse to begin with, sit and read and soak it up.
its awesome tha you're getting into the word though mate.
Good On ya
God Bless Ya

Give me a buzz if you ever feel like it.
