It's funny... I started playing FFXI when I was 15 years old and my parents would pay for me. Then, I turned 17 all of a sudden, got a job, and am now forced to pay on my own if I wish to keep playing. Thing is, I play a lot differently now. I'm on a lot more and... well, I don't know... take things more seriously when it comes to learning new things. When my parents had me covered, I would take breaks from FFXI and I even quit for a year. O____o Now, I can't even see myself without it, lol.
Has anyone else been through this and felt the difference? I actually like it better with me paying. xd

Well, for me it depends...
Sometimes my BF paid for me, but sometimes not.

When this game started in the US late 2003, you technically needed to be at least 18 years old to own your own account, so I would think most ppl pay for their own. Although I know parents were convinced to purchase accounts for their children, so I suppose there's a lot of ppl that didn't pay for their own accounts at first.
It is a nice feeling to be paying for your own account, but sometimes it almost feels like you're obligated to play often enough to justify paying for it sometimes, right?

When I first started I was 17 so had to ask my mom to use her credit card but I paid her back since I was working too for a while, and then once I turned 18 or sometime soon after that I managed to get my own credit card to pay for my own, and been paying for my own ever since.

My mom started out paying for mine, but one day when I tried to get on I found out that her credit card expired! By that time I had a job so I put my own info in(I couldn't wait for her to get home to play!).

I started day 1 of the US PC release and I was in college so I paid for my own. My parents did pay for my brother's account since he was 13 when he started.

My mum used to pay for my account, but then she cancelled it nearly 2 years ago. :C
I feel bad about not being able to say goodbye to the friends I made on Pandemonium server. I can't even remember their POL/FFXI names anymore! OTL
So I have to get a job and be able to pay for it if I want to play again. But I don't know where to get a job, haha.

I am being forced to pay when I begin playing... that means working when I am done with my classes for the day ... more time actually....only problem is the driving and getting a job part XD.

I started when I was 17 and borrowed my dad's creditcard, but when I turned 18 I got my own credtcard and used it for all my online purchases since then. Would be nice to have an option to use paypal, unless they recently added it.. I don't know. (I don't play anymore).

No, my mom pays for me. But I'm almost 18 and she says that as long as I keep doing well in college she'll pay until I find my own job. I love her.
