History
The clan is referred to as the Lin nobles but when addressing someone formally such as a captain from this clan, you refer to Hayashi, otherwise it's Lin.
The Lin nobles first started when a few years after Soul Society was first created. It's founder Lin Ren Bao began to expand the clan's numbers by adopting and recruiting people into the clan. Eventually, the clan grew and was recognized as a noble clan by the majority of Soul Society.
It soon made it's name as it's numbers continued to skyrocket. But success comes with it's problems. Like many clans who wish to be at the top, others will compete for the title. Several clans including the Hokosaki Clan decided to compete with the Lin Clan for adoptees and recruitment was being interefered with. Soon all competition faded away leaving two noble clans left with the highest number of members. The Hokosaki and the Lin.
Small conflicts between small groups of both the Hokosaki and the Lin began. These battles became frequent and larger until it escalated into a all-out war. Casualties were taken by both sides but in the end, the Hokosaki decided to pull out and let the Lin take the title. However, the Lin clan's founder Lin Ren Bao sudden death suddenly washed the ambition off the clan. A new heir, Lin Takagawa rose to become the head of the Lin House and recruitment for adoptees into the clan ceased. Thus, the clan began to reduce in numbers and became a minor Noble Clan falling behind the other clans in number and power. The clan has been peaceful ever since with it's last adoptee into the clan being Lin Tsai.

Major Clan Members:
The Lin house is particularly large for a minor noble clan. The clan has a counsel to decide the clan's decisions in war or day to day life. The following are the major clan members who are part of the counsel.
Takagawa [NPC]: One of Ren Bao's sons by blood, he is the person who adopted Tsai into the clan. He is currently the head of the house and is quite efficient at using Shunpo with zanjutsu (Iadojutsu). He gets the final say in all the decision making.
Tsai: The heir to the title "Head of the Lin House". Also known as the head trainer for the house, although he isn't extremely powerful like the other two trainers, he has greater knowledge of improving people's abilities than either of the two trainers.
Watari[NPC]: Personal trainer for the clan also one of Ren Bao's sons although not by blood. He was adopted during the Hoko-Lin war.
Umi[NPC]: Another personal trainer for the clan. She is Ren Bao's only daughter also not by blood. She was adopted into the clan also for the Hoko-Lin war.
Castle
The Castle is located in the southern region of Sereitei and is quite large compared to many of the other clan buildings. It's construction began during the formation of the Lin Nobles. At first it began as a simple one story house but eventually it grew in layers to a 6 story castle-like building. The ground level is meant to serve guests with many dining rooms and libraries. The second floor is used to provide bedding for the servants of the clan. The third and fourth floor contains the rooms of the many minor members of the clan. The fifth floor is where all the main members of the clan rest. And the sixth floor is a balcony where one can enjoy a nice view of Soul Society.
Underground there is a 100m x 100m dirt arena meant for sparring and practice with other members of the clan or other shinigami.
