From what I've heard, even if the character you're potraying does not wear makeup, its still wise to wear some. What kinds of makeup to most people typically use and what techniques are used in application?

Hmm, I've had to do this with my crossplays. Since guys typically don't wear makeup, I've had to wear makeup to make myself look less girly. It's all about the foundation and light natural tones. But since I usually crossplay as Bishies, I do toss on a little eye-liner on my top lid.

well, like people from Naruto, take Kiba for example, you have to wear red make-up to make the marks on his face. Plus, dont forget the sexy no jutsus. They need to wear make-up to be more girly. I do cosplay, and I usually have to wear make-up! 3nodding

The character I last played didn't wear make-up but I still wore a little eye liner (LikeI put as little on as possible) And alittle foundation so then I would look decent in the pictures) But I was cosplaying as a girl character but if your going as a boy if they dont already I would say if you want to or if you have too but if you do then dont mae it too noticeable if your cosplaying as a guy.

I've found that even if the character doesn't wear make-up, doesn't have any markings, ect, that wearing make-up just makes you look better (this applies to guys too) especially for photos.
Girls - foundation, compact, a little bit of eyeliner, and a light lipstick or lip gloss.
guys - a bit of compact, maybe eyeliner depending on the costume.
It just evens out skin tones in photos and what not.
