Elfen Lied, while not technically goth, has some pretty insane s**t in it. As does Gantz.

You can't get much better than hellsing, but you might want to try the ultimate OVA, it's much better.

Also, some deliciousness is known as Blood +, Blood the last vampire, and Vampire Hunter D.

Manga-wise there are tons, including what I said up there, as well as godchild, bizenghast, haunted house, death at death's door, and some other things.

As for american comics, try gloom cookie, and anything by jhonen vasquez.

*sigh of relief*

I was afraid I'd be hearing titles that have been sent to hell by Cartoon Network (ie. Naruto)

Apparently some people at my school think that watching those shows make you 'goth'.

I know, WTF?

I haven't seen most of them... but I did enjoy Hellsing. And I've seen the *old* Vampire Hunter D movie... Haha.. I love the song in the end credits.
TM NETWORK!!

Depends on what you mean by "gothic anime".

Of the gothic horror genre?
Anime "for goths"?
Featuring goth characters?

Ones of the gothic horror genre, and ones that feature goth characters. Also ones with vampires are much appreciated 3nodding

Of the actual goth horror genre?

"Le Portrait du Petit Cossette" and "Boogiepop Phantom*" are the only great examples of the genre in anime. The "Vampire Hunter D" films are also fairly good. As an anime collector with several hundred DVD's, you can trust me on this. "Hellsing" and "Blood: The Last Vampire" are both arguable, but neither (in my opinion) actually reflects the genre.

Featuring goth characters?

None that I've ever seen. Or, under my definition of goth.

Going down your list, defining genres-

Blood+ (action)
Blood The Last Vampire (action / horror, arguably gothic horror)
Death Note (thriller)
D-grey man (primarily action; some gothic horror influence, arguably)
Elfen Lied (horror, but not gothic horror)
Gantz (action/suspense)
Godchild (mystery)
Hellsing (action / horror, arguably gothic horror)
Le Portraite de Petite Cossette (gothic horror)
Trinity Blood (drama, primarily)
Ultimate OVA (action / horror, arguably gothic horror)
Vampire Game (pure comedy... who thought this was gothic horror?)
Vampire Hunter D (gothic horror)

*Boogiepop Phantom: a thirteen episode anime series as part of the Boogiepop franchise. The Boogiepop franchise include more than a dozen novels, multiple seperate manga series, this anime, and a live-action movie. Each seperate entry of the series has it's own characters and locations, but each also has overlapping elements with others.

Godchild is pretty good a gothic anime, with its mysteries and Victorian setting. Though as always, I prefer the manga

Another, in my opinion, is another by the author of Godchild; Angel Sanctuary. It's full of religious conflict, inner conflict, forbiddon love, all the things I love in a story. It's not a horror, far from it, but some of the s**t in it is pretty damn creepy, particularly Sandalfon, the angel of unborn children. He starts out as an unborn fetus with six wings coming out of his head with wires and s**t stuck in him to keep him alive, then he like turns into a twisted thing (think the end of Akira)

Plus, in the end, God gets killed by Lucifer and the protagonist, Setsuna Mudo biggrin Can't get much more gothic than that :p But seriously, its a great story, though I prefer the manga to the anime, which was just way to short.

I'm not sure if xxholic could count as gothic, but it's good...But the manga is better I think....But on the other hand the anime has my favourite ending credirs EVER
