The Life and Times of Amelia Seiko Forest/Aevia Lin Derly/Ace/Aevia Mae Greenleaf
The Prologue
The Prologue
Ace kept running. She had been for about two years and eleven months now. She ran from the Summoria, her friends. She ran from her first love, who was now in the ground. She ran from the night, the night of innocent blood spilled; that night of guilty blood spilled. The girl had only been just over 11 years old when she started running. She had only been just over 11 years old when she first took the life of a human being.
Anyone else would've been surprised, randomly morphing into a dragon. Although, it wasn't completely random; Ace was in mortal danger. But something like that makes any person think. And Ace, she began to wonder for the first time about her identity in that thinking. After all, Ace was the name the Summoria gave her, since Ace had no recollection of her life before she was adopted into the Robin-Hood-like gang. And of course Ace thought about how she could harm someone again. So she left the people she loved, for their sake, and ran.
Ace ran during the daylight only, of course. Once darkness would fall, the girl crawled into a tree, a cave, an abandoned warehouse, and if she was in a city, she might stay in a homeless shelter for the night. She had no idea where she was running to, or what she was looking for. So, she never stopped.
Or at least, she thought she would never stop. However, running through a dense wood, Ace came to a small clearing. She quickly noted smoke rising in the distance, being released from the log house Ace could barely make out. Then, she saw a man. Right in the middle of the clearing was one tree, and under the tree was a man. The man looked aged, or perhaps it was his gray hair and his thick white beard that gave off the illusion. Ace dared to approach the man, and saw very few wrinkles marked his face. The bearded man was smoking on a wooden brown pipe, and his eyes almost sparkled.
The man held up his hand, seemingly asking Ace to stay still. "I've been expecting you," he squeaked. Ace jumped at his voice, which she found rather amusing, but then she stood still. The man stood up, and pulled something out of his pocket. He came right up to Ace, and took her left hand in his. He then placed a golden locket in her hand and stepped back. "Open it," he ordered with the same silly squeaky voice. "Inside you will find your identity." Ace did as he said, and opened the oval shaped locket. Inside it read Aevia Lin, 8-1 in a cursive text.
"Aevia, that's my name?" Aevia made a face when she spoke; she hadn't spoken in an awful long time. The bearded man only nodded. Suddenly, Aevia had a million questions. Most importantly, she wanted to know about the man, and why he knew who she was. "Wait! How did you..." Aevia cut herself off with a slight yelp. While she was questioning the man, she had closed the locket. Yet, right when she closed it, an electric shock coursed through her. "What the?" Aevia looked down at the locket which she had dropped.
"Your dragon morph, that's not it; there's more," The man said, pulling Aevia's attention away from the locket. "You control the element of lightning. You are the Guardian of electricity. Oh, and I think you're the one who can create forcefields." Despite the full beard, Aevia could tell the man was grinning ear to ear. "You may pick it back up now, it won't do that again." Aevia looked down at the locket cautiously, finally picking it back up.
"How do I have all these... powers?" Aevia asked, slipping the locket into her worn jean's pocket.
"It's in your blood, your anatomy." The man looked straight into Aevia's green eyes. "You need to go to the Boarding School for the Gifted. It's for people like you, people with strange abilities." He then turned around, and headed for the log cabin. Aevia couldn't help but pursue him.
"Sir, I don't know how to get there." She came around to the front of the bearded man. He pulled a small map out of the same pocket from which the locket had come from, and he handed it to her. He winked, or at least it seemed so to Aevia, then continued on his way without a word. Aevia looked at the map, so small it wasn't folded once. In bright red letters was printed the word "here"; in bright blue letters was printed the word there. In between the words was the rest of the wood, a river, some small city, and more woods. Aevia estimated it would take about a month to get there, with the way she traveled. With nothing else to do, she set out, estimating she would make it there just in time for the new school year.
