OOC: I figured that Leran started the 25th of January...This I'm having a double whammy with for Saturday, the 16th of February... The day that Kally's gone out with the Divination crew and this. ^_^ Because I love Leran.
Oh, and I "minimized" all the prequel stuff to this. If you want to read it, feel free...But I think I got too longwinded with things that don't' really matter to our part of the RP.

IC:

Kally had spent.... ooh, all of yesterday evening egging Leran about both the dolls and the fact that she was going to get in good with that little creep Eicca and that other girl what'-s-her-face...And, of course, she'd spent all of yesterday evening demanding to see the as of yet unnamed doll she'd bought yesterday because of the bet they had. Leran had finally tied a noose to it's neck and clipped it on his pants and went around calling it Russom.

Kalandra had thought Russom was an ugly name, and then went on and on about doll abuse and the fact that Leran was going to turn into a serial killer... Which, of course, set Aurora into screaming fits. Leran was quite pleased that he'd untied the doll and whined his way out of punishment while Kalandra had been told to clean the kitchen. Of course, he'd had to play with the stupid doll and Aurora for some time, but...it wasn't something to whine about.

Russom had been so offended by it that Leran had woken up that morning to some rather creative imp-made booby traps. Russom's new nickname that morning was Dennis the Menance, and Leran's new limp had nothing to do with his usual foolishness.

Leran came into work that morning with about as sour of a face as you could get. Let's see... limp, along with the fact that Dad was home so he had to be dressier and on better behavior than usual (because whether or not those in charge would actually call home, Leran was terrfied of that idea), oh and the fact that he was dressier than usual meant that he couldn't hide the fact that he had the stupid doll with him...Which he HAD to bring because of that stupid bet that his pride wouldn't let him lose and...oh, for whatever reason his sister was extra nice about giving him a ride. Maybe because she would have the opportunity to ride him the whole way over.

The nice part about the whole thing...maybe...was that Aurora had let Leran borrow her pretty pink, mesh toy bag to safely carry the doll in. So, well, even though you could see the doll, at least he wasn't carrying it. Just the girly toybag. And he could lie his way out of that.

Leran took the stupid bag and tossed it behind the counter the moment he came in, grumbling the whole time. "Hey, Sasha! How can I help out today?"

This was all, really, a good sign for Sasha. The doll bag was new, but everything else pointed to the fact that Leran would try to do a decent job today. As much as Leran could, anyway.

"Sasha! Leran's going to be carrying a friend with him to work all week!" But then, RUSSOM was in a mischivious mood. That was also new. He dragged the bag and doll to the counter, "The bet says that he has to carry it WITH him all the time. Now, I do not want him to lose this bet. He is already overloaded. He would not work well here if he must do all his and his sister's chores at the house. It would not impede on his work, if only he would wear this on his back all day."

Leran, as was his custom when he really wanted to go back to believing things like imps didn't exist, completely ignored the fact that Russom was there.

As always Sasha was ready for a witty reply to Leran’s question, prepared to give him a back-handed compliment that probably insulted his skills or intelligence in some way, but he never got it out. Instead, he shut his mouth, too confused and intrigued by the imp known as Russom. Well, he would never call himself confused by such an inferior creature, but he found him rather amusing in a rather puzzled way, and it was even better if he got something interesting out of the imp that he could use against his employee. Maybe he was afraid of the exact same thing, and that was why he kept Pixie locked away in a cabinet or in the back room during store hours. It was either that, or he was just so annoyed by her that he tried to use the same tactic as Leran; if he just ignores her, maybe she will eventually stop existing.

But he would never ignore Russom, especially when he brought him some lovely bit of information like today. Oh no, how could he let something like this pass? If he did not have complete control of his emotions he would be grinning right now, but despite the urge, he managed to fake an interested eyebrow raise and caring smile. “Is that so? As long as it does not impede on his work, I do not care what he must do. I completely understand. Please, go ahead. I am sure it cannot cause any more trouble.” The words ‘than he already does’ were probably passing through Sasha’s mind at the moment, but he reframed from using them. He did hope, however, that Leran was able to predict these thoughts, especially with the amused look he was giving him.

Sasha probably didn't realize it, because if he had he wouldn't have DONE it, but letting those words hang unspoken in the air wasn't only an encouragement, but something that brought a bit of pride to Leran. Over running Russom's reply was Leran's quick, energetic one.

"Awh, who are you kidding? You've seen me running around the store and NOT crashing into things! I haven't destroyed a thing, except maybe the boring atmosphere, but, you SAW what happened when you gave me THAT thing," Leran didn't look, but waved a hand to indicate Russom behind him, "Now you want to add a pack to my back? My de---Geez, Sasha! Kinda dumb, you'll mess up ALL of my movements and your merchendise will go BOOM and bye!"

A month ago, when Leran started this whole working thing, his vocabulary had been much more precise and his arguments far better knitted. Always. For whatever reason, he'd gotten to the point where he didn't seem to even try with Sasha and Russom most of the time.

He took a breath, and straightened then, going back to trying, "Besides, most people ostracize those who appear to be different. Having an otherwise handsome, well-dressed, and rather normal employee wearing his sister's pink mesh bag with a dumb doll in it would be losing your chance at other customers. I mean, hiring me was smart, because it broadened your range of the customers that could relate or would talk to us...But NOW you want to RUIN that chance? Are you TRYING to go out of buisness?"

"The people who wander in here that can relate to your human rationalization are not usually what I would call customers. They just gawk," Russom countered, "And if you can not work here because you are overloaded at home, that is worse than a week of carrying a doll. You defeat your own argument."

"Shut-up! Things that don't exist shouldn't TALK!"

Russom folded his arms in annoyance, but knew by now it was hopeless to even try to make the fool understand.

Now, Sasha had something against imps, and he enjoyed arguing, but Russom was nice to have around. He figured losing to the “nonexistent” creature was more shameful than losing to him, and this was, therefore, more enjoyable for him to watch. There was that, and Sasha found Leran’s less precise way of arguing quite entertaining to listen to. “I cannot imagine that you could make more trouble than Hansi by just adding a simple pack to your back.” Sasha would by lying to say that image didn’t matter to him, for it was one of the most important things to him, but he preferred entertainment over it. This is why he allowed Hansi to come around, and he definitely did nothing for Sasha or the shop’s image. It is by this same token he forced Leran to work; he did not fit into Divinations image, and he was quite different from the shop owner Sasha and his employee Lucas. As long as Sasha got something out of it—even a moment’s entertainment, it was worth it. “If you are so against carrying the bag, you could remove the doll from it. The doll actually fits in with the atmosphere of the place, so I doubt it would cause too many problems.” This was also fun, too.

"You two are full of it!" Leran snapped. That was it. He had reached his capacity of being ridiculed, and for once ever, Leran dared to puff up himself in some pride around Sasha and put down a serious foot, "You can forget it. If you're so worried about some stupid bet with my sister, YOU wear the dumb backpack. I'm going to go make myself useful."

Leran quite purposely and unnecessarily swirved around to turn his back completely to Sasha and the imp and sort of stomp-limped over to do heavens knew what that was "useful."

Russom shook his head, "You will be in trouble if Kally walks in!"

Leran picked up the nearest unbreakable item and threw it at where Russom had been standing. Russom, of course, had already left his spot.

Just as expected Sasha’s face didn’t change at Leran’s response. Even if it had, it would not have been one of surprise. For of course, it is much more fun if the target fights back! Is this not the reason why the bad guys always give the hero a few seconds to run? The hunt is the best part! Up until now Leran had given up and refused to run, but finally Sasha had something to chase! Of course this is all metaphorically speaking, for Sasha was too good to get all sweaty actually running after something. That’s what employees were for, after all.

What did get a reaction, however, was the act of throwing merchandise around the store. He did not seem really bothered by it, though; he turned his back to Leran as well to carefully reorganize some items on a shelf. He did have something to say, though, “Please be careful. I do not want a mess in my store. If you cause one, you will have to clean it up.” He glanced back at Leran once then toward the spot on the ground where Russom used to be. The mess he was referring to was not that of broken merchandise; he was talking about any mess created by injuring the imp…or worse.

Sasha had now earned a spot on the "if I ignore it, it'll go away" list. And why not? He was everything that a person was not SUPPOSED to be. In Leran's head, he was the one who created such problems as imps and mental issues derriving from accidental visits on Egyptian Death Festivals and the like.

It was amazing Leran hadn't though of such a novel idea before. If you don't talk to your boss, then you don't have to answer his snooty comments when he responded! Genius!

Those were his sarcastic thoughts to himself as he went about his duties. He even managed to not look back at the shopkeeper.

OOC: *snork* Leran's cup over tolerance has overflown. If the day continues like this, we can shut the curtains on it... *tries to muse up some interesting delimas*

Even though Sasha enjoyed being in the spotlight, he was also quite content with being ignored. Why, when you’re ignored, you have so much more freedom! He would not have to watch Leran every second to be ready for a comeback, and he could hang loose a bit. Of course, neither of these would ever happen under any circumstances, and Sasha would never think of it! Instead, he uses his freedom to come up with more devious plots and ideas, most of which had nothing to do with Leran, though there were a few, and think about his wins and how they could have been even better for future reference.

Though Leran may like to know that if he stayed “out of sight, out of mind” long enough, Sasha may eventually lose all interest in him. Of course this would probably never happen since Hansi has quite a bit of interest in his “friends,” and he would never let him be out of Sasha’s mind for long. Plus, Leran would also have to keep Russom from doing anything that Sasha would notice. In other words, it probably would never happen.

(( OOC: If you ever want me to throw in any of the other NPCs, just say the word. =D I'm more than happy to have them cause trouble. ))

Leran continued to do a decent job throughout the day. He was proving that, once he set his mind to it (even if it was for the simple fact that he was ignoring everyone's existence), Leran could indeed do a decent job.

He even proved for perhaps the first time that he'd either read bits of that stupid manual or listened to Russom's monologues about it enough that something had sunk in. Gasp. Afterall, the best way to ignore others and have them ignore you was to fit in. Leran knew that much.

Unfortunately, being ignored was one of the quickest ways to have drive Russom insane. That was, undoubtedly, something that Leran knew about as well. And Russom went from amusing himself however Russoms amused themselves to peeking over Leran's shoulder to loudly commenting over what was going on to...

Leran had just handed that lovely glass piece to a customer when Russom darted across the floor, up the customer's leg, and ended up on her forearm.

"Waaiiii!!!" The glass flew into the air, the lady flung herself around, smacking Leran in the face as she did so, and Russom again disappeared somewhere at his super-fast speed.

Leran had enough experience in mischievousness and enough good sense that he was able to quickly decide what was the most important thing of all to react to and tried to catch the glass piece. He did not have enough experience in delicate objects, and it shattered in the one hand he tried to snatch it out of the air with.

He was smacked in the face a second time by the indignant woman, "You can give that to the owner, and tell him to get the pest problem under control or have the shop condemned!" She stomped out of the shop.

"Lucas! Hand me the first aid kit!" Leran had learned that all he needed to do was command the strange man around, "Russom!" No answer, "RUSSOM! ..... Awh, don't you know you're in for it..." The imp hadn't answered a second time. Leran went to the backroom and stuck his hand under the sink, "Lucas? Do we have a first aid kit? Or some bandages at least?"

It wasn't a terribly bad cut, just long enough and deep enough to bleed something terrible. And, of course, on the palm of his best hand so it'd be difficult to get around for a few days.

Otherwise, Leran looked ready to kill.

Of course Lucas quickly reacted to the orders (though there was no reaction to anything else), walking stiffly to a locked counter, removing the key from a pocket…

And then having it nimbly taken out of his hands and some new orders whispered in his ear. As Lucas moved to start cleaning up any pieces of glass he could find on the ground, Sasha unlocked it, and after a few seconds of searching, lifted the first aid kit out and made a brisk walk to the back room. He didn’t say anything for a few moments, only giving an emotionless stare in Leran’s direction, as if deciding his next course of action. Finally, he took a few more steps toward the sink, offering the kit out with one hand while letting the other rest on his hip. “How bad is it?”

"My hand's fine," Leran snapped, not that he'd actually admit to the sting or anything, but he was careful about drying it. He shook his head, "Sorry."

He took the antibacterial stuff out of the kit with a sigh, "But Russom is not fine, did you see what happened? He jumped on that lady's arm! She said to slap you for it, but I'd rather not deliver that bit of mail, if it's ok with you. I swear, he's turning into a real pest. She was right, we should condemn your shop and put it out of its misery for the pest problem that seems to reside in it. The nunhuman kind. It'd be inhumane, I suppose, to condemn you and Hansi along with it. Think you could help me wrap this? I don't think I could get it tight enough, one handed. A bunch of bandaids just won't stick, I don't think. I swear, Russom's gonna get it. I can't believe you ever let Hansi wreck the imp-havoc on the world like this!"

Yeah, Leran was fine.

If one looked close enough he might see a slight bit of uncertainty on Sasha’s face, but of course it was so slight that it could easily just be a bit of surprise, or perhaps, his facial muscles weren’t so used to giving a concerned look. Whatever type of look it was soon disappeared, though, leaving the emotionless face as he finally reached for the bandages to begin wrapping Leran’s hand. “I have already given orders to Lucas to attempt to locate the imp after he finishes picking up the pieces of glass, but I highly doubt he will find anything, forcing us to look for him ourselves. If he does not already know the location of an object, his idea of searching is standing in one place and looking from side to side. Unfortunately, this technique does not seem to work very well.” Now we all must hope this was not joke. More than likely it was just his way of insulting Lucas while he wasn’t around, though we all know he would have done it no matter what. “Admittedly, I did not see the whole thing, but I did see quite a bit from the corner of my eye, and it was easy enough to see the imp fleeing.” When Sasha decided he was done, he took an elegant step back, resting against a wall. “Any havoc wreaked by these imps is a much better consequence than anything I would have endured if I did not let Hansi have his way. He likes to remind me that I am not omnipotent.” There was a grin there, signaling there was probably much more than what he said. It could have been there because he knew he really was only humoring the poor Hansi, or maybe the muscles were just spasming from the strange look he was giving before he began bandaging Leran up. “Now, I believe we should find this imp before he causes any more problems.” Leaning forward, he shifted his weight to the front, and with graceful strides he walked out of the back room.

Of course he did not get very far before Lucas almost walked right into him, or perhaps he just nearly fell, what with his stiff and unsteady steps. He mumbled something to Sasha (or possibly to the wall, seeing as he was looking at that) before returning to his spot behind the register, where he looked around for Russom with a glazed look in his eyes. Somehow Sasha understood the employee’s words, instantly picking up the phone. After a few words, he had to pull the receiver away from his face, cocking an eyebrow at the yells coming from the other side. After they subsided, he once again put it to his ear to give the man a sharp reply, “I apologize for the inconvenience. I will get another soon. Please trust me.” Finally he set the phone back on the hook. As soon as he realized he was scowling, he quickly fixed face; he must control the anger. Of course, by controlling one's anger one could also release it. He had to be ready to glare at the cause of all this, and unfortunately for Leran and Russom, they were the easiest to blame.

Leran was either taking Sasha's words at face value or he wasn't up for the games. He dropped his voice level considerably when he spoke again, so that possible listeners shouldn't be able to hear, "Thanks, Sasha. Let me take care of Russom 'till I can get him in a position that he has to listen. Then you can have him. For good, if you'd like."

Leran watched Sasha leave, and probably wasn't quite out of earshot when he started grumbling about intolerable little grumble-grumble. At the moment, as long as it was directed at Russom, Leran was likely to be in agreement over whatever Sasha wanted to do about the whole incident.

Leran didn't sit in his grumble party too long, but came out to make sure all the glass pieces were picked up. Then he turned to do something that was helpful, but entirely unrelated to finding Rusosm.

Well, except that he'd gone and taken Sasha's lead about holding a neutral face. Sasha was good for learning some things. After a moment or two, Leran started talking. That really wasn't too unusual, he tended to start quoting song lyrics or make up imaginary battles between vases and curtains or something of the like in the shop, but he generally waited until he thought Sasha wasn't around, or until he was bored. Neither of those were true right now.

If one got close enough to hear, Leran was monologuing to Russom. Some obvious lies about how he understood why Russom did that and he wasn't upset and he would like to apologize and he wouldn't stop repeating himself because he felt so badly about it until he knew that Russom had heard and accepted his apologies.

Leran wasn't acting his concern very well though. His only saving grace would be Russom's tendency to take everything at face value.

But Russom wasn't an idiot. Several minutes passed. Leran got tired of monologuing and instead worked with something of a vengeance, only half-succeeding at not sulking as he did so. Several more moments passed and Leran slammed down his good fist, "I'm taking a break!"

In truth, today at least it was a break Leran deserved. He wandered back toward the counter with a frown, "Hey, Lucas, where'd that imp put my b---uh, Ora's---here, nevermind," he snatched the bag off the floor and turned toward the break room.

"Are you eating?" Russom's question was somewhere between tentative and eager, his voice came from somewhere in the shelves.

Leran's death-look was back. "Yeah."

A few moments later, a loud but short shriek could be heard from the break room. Leran had snapped his plastic lunch container over top Russom. The imp was trapped, lying down, underneath the thing.

Leran put an elbow over the container and continued to snack.

OOC: *L* Lots of "moments" pass in this post... Anyhow, if I over-rode something Sasha was likely to do in all this, slap me and I'll edit accordingly. =D

Normally, seeing Leran talk to himself would require an eyebrow raise and witty comment from the shop owner, but today he just glared, arms folded across his chest as he leaned against the register counter. Even if he wanted to explode right now, he still needed to handle the most recent problem, and he needed Russom to accomplish that. After all, he had to play his cards right so as not to run Leran completely away. He figured the best way to do that was to give him very few believable reasons with which to complain to his parents. Oh, he would give him reasons to complain, but he assumed that he would only be allowed to quit if the reason was realistic and worse enough that his parents would believe it. Having Russom around made everything less credible and harder to explain, so it was best just to wait for him…

Of course Sasha wasn’t going to look for the imp himself, so all he could do was watch Leran and hope that Russom would come out soon. The salesman in him could not keep him from looking back at the door as well, though he made sure he did not glare at any passersby, only returning to the scowl when he was facing the back of the store. Right now he really did not want customers, especially since the only person whose actions he could predict at the moment was Lucas, but he would not close the store early. He was much too greedy for that, and he could always send Lucas to take care of the customer and watch from the distance to see if he needed to jump in.

Luckily, this never happened, so Sasha never had to move from his spot. Even when Leran left on break, he did not follow, only moving when he heard the shriek from the break room. He gave Lucas orders to run the store and take care of any customers that walked in, and then he left for the back. For whatever reason he decided to remove the glare when he came through door, but instead of walking straight up to Leran and the trapped imp, he just found himself a new place to lean against the wall and stare. After a a few moments of watching Leran eat, he finally opened his mouth to speak, “Would prefer eating first or dealing with the imp first?”
