Is there anything out there that says the year Harry went to school? As in year like 1999 (I'm not trying to say that's it). I think I may have figured it out (using the best subject ever, Math), but I need to know if some has beat me to it and they are right... sweatdrop Weird request I know....

Well the time line is that Harry is born 1980, starts school 1991 (the year I was born) then the sixt book takes place in 1997.

HA! I have proof that it can't be 1991 that he started. If he started in 1991 then the Quidditch World Cup would be in the third year and the last. You can figure all of this out by "Quidditch Through the Ages." I believe he started either 1994 or 1990, since the books were realesed in 1997 and J.K. was trying to make it as modern as the time she was writing it.

Maybe JKR isn't as disturbingly obsessive about math as you? (no offense intended, of course, you know I love ya)

Well, JKR has said that Math certainly isn't her best subject, and I'm sure she wasn't expecting her books to be over-analyzed like this.
However, Nearly Headless Nick died in 1492, according to the first book, and it's in the second book that he celebrates his 500th death anniversary, therefore their second year started in 1992. (Though people have pointed out that Nearly Headless Nick sometimes changes the amount of years he's been dead it seems, like by saying that he hasn't eaten in 400 years. However, I'd imagine he'd have paid more attention to the amount of years he's been dead when planning his death day party moreso than he would making some comment about it. Or JKR would have at least).
