Two of the oldest books ever, Homer's Illiad and Oddessy were written in Ancient Greece. Most times you can find them at a Library, horribly translated into english.
Has anyone else attepted to read them?

I'll try and read it again. I just couldn't get past the atrocious translation.

I have read the Odyssey. Has anobody else? sweatdrop Lol. It was good in parts, but others were just so slow you just wanted to bang your head into a wall. xD
It was a good story and a good book to read once, but never again after that in my opinion. rofl At least you can say you've read it!

I've got to admit that I am probably lucky 'cause as I am Greek I've read both of them years ago without needing to go through translations. For me these two books are part of tradition and a way of historical research (though it is too difficult to extract the real out of the fake) of my own people. Actually we also have them as lessons in the junior high school. To be honest I believe it is worth to read them. Maybe the language is a bit difficult ( as matter of fact the difficult thing is the meter of the text and not the language itself) but once you get used to it, it is a pretty enjoyable reading.

Have read some of the Oddessy in 9th grade and reading some of the Illiad now. I like how things are worded even though it can be confusing... sweatdrop

I'm Greek myself, and the Odyssey and Iliad are important parts of the education system here. I've read them in class... Well, most of them. And translated into modern Greek. I enjoyed them a bit... They're easy to get into. I liked the dialogs and morals.

Read the Odyssey in 9th grade, loved it, used to quote from it constantly.
For a long time my RPs always mentioned the "winedark sea"
hahaha.
I have read summaries of the Illiad.
Actually, for those of you who enjoyed both the Odyssey and the Illiad, I highly, HIGHLY recommend checking out Dan Simmons' "Illium" and "Olympos," two excellent works of science fiction based off of the Illiad, the Odyssey, and a number of other pieces of famous literature.
Really, you will be astounded.
I know I was.

I did, but it was a middle school version. If I can ever get through the original Dracula I would try it again.
