In theory, a nanobot is a small "device" of sorts made out of protines. They are injected into the body and can do a myriad of different functions, from repairing damage to bolstering the immune system. You often see them in movies and anime tearing things apart, molicule by molicule, and rebuilding them into something new.
I haven't heard anything new as nanotechnology goes, has anyone else? or is it still just a theory?

One quick pet peeve of mine good sir. There is no actual Immune System, there is no Immune System, the Closest System to that is probably your Lymphatic System, but even that's somewhat of a stretch....
Anywho, So far as I know the smallest peice of Technology we have is only a tracking device that measures up to about .05 mm. And, Protines? do you mean Proteins? But I don't see how that could be possible as every protein there is does one, and only one thing. Whether it be Amylase breaking down Sucrose into Fructose and Glucose, or a simple building protein, Our body already does the things you speak, Except being broken aprt and built into something new Entirely. Well, technically our Body does that too with the food we eat. But other wise, Your body repairs damage and other things on an average everyday basis. I don't think I explained that as well as I would have liked but I think you get the idea.
Also, it's only a theory if it's widely Accepted by a majority of Scientists, and then only if Experiments have been done to back it up.

I have heard that work has been done on the development of Nanomachines, but it's still in the development stage. I have heard about the protein nanomachines, but I when i here that I think it's more like genetics or something. Nano machines to me are basically microscopic robots (like in T2) that are capable of doing numerous things, but still with limitations.

Ooh yea, I've heard of nanomachines, but only in the movies really. I remeber reading that some researchers believed nanomachines would one day be able to enter living cell's to fight disease..but actually I haven't heard much else.
*goes to look around the web*

*goes to look around the web* I don't know how comfortable I would be with little things like that in my cells... eek I don't know why, but it just seems like my personal bubble would be being popped on a cellular level.

I wouldn't mind.
Then we would kinda be super human though. Couldn't we get nano machines to help us be faster, fitter, stronger?

Yes I suppose so, maybe I'd just have to get used to the idea of it being in my bubble.

Look, I don't try to understand how they would work, since my entire Nervous System might cease function. As for the typos, give me a break It was 6 AM and I was luck to be that cohearant. And I am sorry about calling it a theory, as I do know the true definition and nanotechnology is more of just an idea.

Just stating my thinking is all, and I wasn't meaning to rant on your spelling or anything, I honestly didn't know for sure if you meant proteins or protines, for all I know there are protines out there. My Apologies if I offended you, twas not the intent.

must we be so technical.
What do you mean there is no Immune system?
I spell terrible (mainly cuz I"m tiered or I'm eating) all the time so I hope noone harps on me...

Sorry, just a pet peeve thing, well there is no actual "Immune System", there is no set of Organs that's primary job is to keep you immune from Viruses/Bacteria, and technically Immunity is not part of homeostasis being maintaned. And there shall be no Harping on spelling unless it's absolutely horrid...(Such as Acronyms every 2 words, or just absolute mis-spelling, but I haven't met anyone who's done that yet.) I just didn't know if he actually ment proteins... sweatdrop

I don't know much about it either, and I haven't had time to look anything up, but I keep checking in...I learn something from these threads all the time.
@tiki...so then why ever did we come up with "immune system??"

Iwill have to find the article, but a nano machine that has been built on an atomic level has been tested and does what it is told. So far, I believe the designers have made it move like an inchworm. On command. I have got to find the article, though, to be sure what it does. We still have a LONG way to go. And I am not sure I want to see it! Scares me! How do you protect yourself if you choose not to participate?
