So, yea, I'm about to start work on my first Conlang. I'm really excited, and have been thinking about it a bit today.... but I'm not into the lingo used for this kind of thing yet, so bear with me. XP

The basic structure I'm interested in as a base is something dealing with a latin/vampiric dialect, if you know what I mean.

Haha... I'm so bad at this right now.... but, just as an example of what some of the words might sound like [I know there's a phrase for that, but whatever], I'll leave an example:

Voluci nilanae. Coruct ocin, al sain vocin.

I know, it's so obvious I'm new tat this, but hell, I'll develop.... really! XD

Anyway, any tips, ideas? Help and examples of previous experience would be greatly appreciated. ^ ^

www.zompist.com/kit

That be useful for you probably.

Well, since you didn't ask anything specific, I don't know what to say... I'd say look in the conlang grammar and lessons section to get ideas I suppose. But, there is no specific way to do it.

As Vajra said, it's best to start with the Language Construction Kit and looking at languages by more experienced conlangers. ^^

Check out a variety of other conlangs and read up on some things like the IPA.

Wikipedia can be a lifesaver, or your worst nightmare, when it comes to looking up linguistic info and languages.

You could also stop by the Conlang Grammar and Lessons board and check out my conlang Anzer Pex. (Shameless Self Promotion cool )

Oh, and one last paragraph of advice: Don't get in over your head too soon, or you will end up with a big mess that looks and sounds cool, but is practically useless. Be patient and take the time to work things out. Don't be afraid to try something new with your conlang.

That was me! ^_^ I hope it helped. It's a great resource for this kind of stuff, probably the best one floating around the internet. ^_^

if you don't count English ciphers, then a lang based on Japanese that was for what would become my Danpyr.

I did not understand that sentence.

I did not understand that sentence.

Some people will count English (or whatever is your L1) ciphers as a "conlang", but a very noobish one. I did those before getting into conlanging proper. If you do not count ciphers as conlangs, then my first conlang was one based on Japanese; it was to be spoken by creatures that I now call Danpyr. They were not originally called that, but the idea has stayed about the same.

Is that clearer? stare

Yeah, I understand now. It was the "that was for what would" in the first one that threw me off.

Hehehe.. you and me both. As a matter of fact, I just started mine up yesterday. All I have so far in a rough verb conjugation guide and... well, that's about. Hell, doesn't even have name yet!

Hello newcomer! I'm called Kitsune* =D How are you?

(Kitsune translates as "flame" in Niora, instead of the Japanese "fox" from which it derived. Coughstolencough)
