Peregrine Abendroth

PostPosted: Fri Jun 22, 2007 7:34 pm

Jet lag caught up with Peregrine as he leaned against the armrest of the taxi and watched the English countryside zip past. Everything was slightly blurred, and no amount of wiping at his glasses cleared his vision. It had been a rather long trip, he'd taken several detours to cut down on the cost of going to
England. The grant his gallery-owning friend had given him had been generous, but not so generous that Peregrine could go spending willy-nilly for the trip. As it was, Peregrine expected to half to walk for the most part, this taxi being a rare exception since his first destination was simply so far away from the airport. Presteigne was his destination. A school that was said to display some rare artifacts of heraldry dating back to medieval times. Just the thought of being able to make a few sketches of such artifacts was enough to quicken Peregrine's blood, and he fiercely knuckled at his eyes to shoo away the cobwebs.

Shouldn't be too much longer, he thought, looking for road signs. He straightened his glasses and checked his bags one last time to make sure he hadn't forgotten anything. Sketchbooks, British money ( that he still wasn't sure how to use), a guide explaining British currency, a guide to the various art museums in England, a guide to old buildings of England, clothing, hygiene stuff, etc. Just like that last five times, it was all still there, but Peregrine wished he'd thought to bring something to read. What with the bumpy road, he didn't want to chance continuing the work on his latest piece, and he wasn't much in the mood for sketching. He sighed and pulled out the Buildings guide.

An hour later, the taxi rolled to a stop outside a rather imposing looking gate, and Peregrine clamberer out after fumbling with money. He watched the taxi drive away, fairly sure that he'd just been over-charged, but well, what could he do? He turned toward the gate, wondering if it had a gatekeeper. To his mild dissapointment, there was a simple buzzer box off to one side. He pressed the button and waited for a reply.

"Yes? " A strict British accent drifted over the old speaker box. The voice was distorted by strange electrical popping ans static but was perfectly understandable. "If you are here to visit a student, you are quite out of luck as personal visiting times are reserved purely for weekends and by appointment only. Now then what is the purpose of your visit?"

Blythe was willing to bet that this was the illusive Mr. Abendroth, who was after checking her pocket watch exactly five minutes and ten seconds late. Mores the pity, his time will remain the same, ending at the appointed hour. Hopefully the students will behave.
