sorrow filled her as she walked home in the rain. she given everything to end up losing it all. tonight could have been any worse, or so she thought...

sorrow filled her as she walked home in the rain. she given everything to end up losing it all. tonight could have been any worse, or so she thought...

But as she walked, a feeling, that, though it was there, acted as the wraith in the night; silent, canny, and undefinable, as it engolfed her heart with fear. Was someone or something following her? Was if a creature of unspeakable beauty or a monster of supernatual repulsiveness?

Paranoia was getting the best of her. On a night like this, when the lamps seemed dim and the alleys were filled with a sullen, almost solid darkness, a persons mind can quickly jump to conclusions. And tonight, she had found herself further in the hole then she had ever intended to be. She let herself catch her breath, and continued along her journey home. The evening shower had swollen to a downpour in the mere hours she'd been out. Hours? Or was it days? Hell if she could remember, and the wind was picking up. The chill of autumn was setting in, and she was soaked to the bone. Quickening her pace home, she could still feel that prickling sensation on the back of her neck. Adrenaline pumped through her arteries, and she seemed to be able to hear everything from the trickle of an overflowing gutter spilling its contents into the pavement below to the foraging of stay animals in the plumes of shadows that surrounded the alleyways. Splashing, somewhere behind her, she could stand to look. She kept her gait steady and at a fairly quick pace. She told herself she was being delusional and irrashional, but she couldnt shake that foreboding sense she was being trailed. Footfalls, splashing, again behind her. This time she dared to look over her shoulder. She saw nothing, and that scared her mor ethen any stalked could have. She turned on her heels and sprinted down the walkways, she ran for blocks, never daring to turn and see if she was being followed. Her foot caught a loose cobblestone, tripping her. She took several long descending strides in an effort to catch herself, but the wet algae covered concrete held no friction. She fell into a pool of water collecting in a pothole. She felt a jarring pain shoot through her wrist as she caught her fall on the sharp edge. Ignoring it she rolle dover and stared upwards.

her eyes meet that of a kind man's, peircing but soft. their color an acid green to the pupil, and never moving. the man holds out a hand for her to grab onto. she takes the gesture and he pulls her up to vertical level. he smiles and closes his eyes, but then opens them when a spluttering sound echos throught the space between the two. he looks down and falls to his knees as he takes a hand and dabs the blood onto his hands. he looks at them in shock, almost as if he has seen his own ending years before it's due. which it was. the sword that pierced his heart withdrew and the weilder wiped it on a bloody rag, but the figure still in shadow. the body of the man, dissapeared. leaving behind an imprint of ash in the cracks on the sidewalk.

He came to a dead stop right in front of her. She could not see his face, he grabbed her and pulled her close to him. He smelled of dead roses. He force a kiss then throw her down. When she look up he was no where to be found. She was puzzled.

Why didn't he kill her? And why in the world did he kiss her? Drenched to the bone and fritened, she stood there in the pouring rain, dazed; unaware of her surroundings. The smell that had covered her pursuer now saturated her lips. A saturation so deep that it could infiltrate even the most bespoken of hearts. She could now only ever forget the life she had once led, for her heart was changing; becoming more and more like that of her admirer. A penetrating kiss; a mutating kiss. Now with the new found slavery of passion, she slowly found her way home.

It seemed like an eternity passed as she walked through the rain, down the empty streets and shadowed walkways. The sounds of the night no longer bothered her, now that the sense of being followed was gone. Her mind chased itself in circles, asking the same questions over and over and not getting any answers. Who was her attacker? Why had he kissed her so passionately? And above all, why did she feel like she ought to be doing something? The downpour slowly let up, turning into hard rain, then a drizzle, and then finally slowing to a kind of mist. The girl glanced up, shoving her hands into her pockets. There was the run-down old house she lived in, beat up VW sitting inoccently in the driveway as though nothing at all had happened. What had happened? In a daze, the girl stumbled up the driveway.

She lay, petrified by her own fear and imobilized by his hands as he leaned in close, his warm breath floating across her bare skin. "Couldn't just leave a pretty little thing like you all alone, now could I?" His voice was soft, yet there was still a threatening note in it. She stared fearfully up into his great golden eyes, unable to look away, or to fight his grasp. There was something... magical about them. A sudden noise from downstairs made the man flinch, and in a swirl of mist, he was gone. She lay where he had left her as her boyfriend came up the stairs, singing that song he loved so. He stopped at the sight of her, laying motionless on the bed. "Hey, honey, you ok?"

As he did so, she could only stand there in horror as the shadowed figure took form. Was he only attacking because she saw him slay her helper? Or was he the creature that she had heard rumors of as a child?

Unable to think straight, she didn't notice that the door had been slightly open. She closed it behind her, and went upstairs to the bathroom. She got undressed to take a shower. She then heard a nose. She covered herself up and went to see what or who was there. "Hello, is anyone there?" She went to look into her bed room, and there he was again standing in the bedroom door way. He grabbed her and threw her on the bed. She couldn't move, nor could she speak.

She struggled to configure an explanation. What could she tell him? She couldn't just tell him that she was kissed by this complete stranger. So she analyzed her conclusion and decided against that thought. She got up and sat on the side of the bed. "Um...yes. I'm fine. Very fine." But in her heart she knew something was wrong. Very troubling. She was heavily in despair. And she hoped that nothing even more bizarre would happen to her that day.

The next morning she couldn't quit get out of bed, for she barley got any sleep. Her mind was trouble, she could get that guy out of her head. She couldn't get that kiss out of her head. She didn't know quit what to do. 'Who was he, and why was he here? Did he follow me home with out me knowing? What should I do if I run into him again? Should I do anything?' The thoughts gave her a cold chills down her spine. She walk down to the kitchen to get something to eat, her boyfriend was fixing breakfeast. "Whats wrong hunny you look so distant"? "Well I just had a weird day yeasterday thats all." "How so?" "Well I saw a guy get killed, but it was dark and I have no idea who done it, but who ever did left me alone."
