D-Tech 119

PostPosted: Thu Jun 21, 2007 6:13 pm

The incubation area was a flurry of activity that signaled either a new egg or a hatching. Seeing how a young raven boy was also present meant that it was the latter. Keivlos' dragon soon hatched and the D-techs on duty at the time noticed that this dragon looked... different. As in, what the eff was that black and green thing that had just popped out of that egg?!

A few moments of scurrying about and they had pulled up the info on the egg. "Supposed to be a black dragon," one of them muttered, looking back up at the wyrmling. "Well, it's not just a black." Another tech answered as boy and hatchling left. The first tech, 119, sighed and started searching for more info on the egg. "The mother's a black dragon," he read off the screen. "Well, duh," the second tech muttered, blushing as he realized he'd made that comment out loud.

119 glared at his partner for a moment, then went on. "She's Black Female B." He gave a sigh. "Someone should probably inform the Boss of this breach... It wasn't supposed to happen again." He typed a few lines into the computer, stating date of hatch and the circumstances while his partner cursed his luck at having to be the one to inform the Boss of this.

"Boss? Yeah, this is 513 from the Incubation Facility calling about the latest hatch. Egg number 35, assigned to Keivlos Crossette, hatched today to be revealed as a hybrid dragon, not a full black as was thought." He cringed at Alan's reaction on the other end of the line. "Yes, sir. It appeared to have green DNA as well." A long pause on his end, then "Yes. Yes, sir. Right away. Yes. Yes, sir, I will do that right now, sir." Finally the conversation ended and the poor tech seemed drained. He turned to his buddy. "We're supposed to go scold them..." he said with a grimace. After all, who actually looked forward to scolding creatures that were 20-some odd feet tall and could easily crush you or slap you with their tail or spew acid/fire/whatever at you? Only someone who had a death wish, of course.

The first tech groaned. "This is not gonna be fun," he muttered as the two made their way down the hallway towards the elevators. He jabbed the down button and waited for one of the elevators to arrive, scowling at his bad luck. With a rather perky ding, the elevator doors opened and the two men dragged their feet as they entered, jabbing the button labeled "6" and waited for the plummet that would take them to that floor.

Finally, the techs arrived in the dragon stables, where they peered about at the various dragons lounging on rocks, in pools of water, and so on. The first tech stepped to the edge of the walkway to glance around, then finally just went over to the intercom and pressed for the announcement system. "Listen up. Black Female B, we need to talk to you. Black Female B to the techs, please." He let off the button and went back to the edge of the walkway. To his dismay, all of the dragons had gotten up and were making their way over to where he and his partner stood. "Bloody curious creatures," the man heard the other tech mutter.

119 scowled, "I know it. Can't they stay out of business that isn't their own?"

513 gave a shrug. "Well, it does involve more than just that black female, you know. After all, there's apparently a green father in the crowd as well."

"As if the greens are any better than the blacks...." 119 muttered, waiting for the huge, lazy creatures to make their way over to where the men were standing. "So which one of you is Black Female B?"

Finally, the dragons had settled themselves in a semicircle nearby and one black dragon pushed her way forward. "How many times do I have to tell you little morsels that the name is Auloll?" she scowled at them.

The techs ignored that comment. "You recently laid an egg, correct?"

Auloll snorted. "Yes. You know that already, so why bother asking me?"

Once again, the techs ignored her jab. "And who was the father of that egg?"

Auloll's wings twitched a bit in her anger. "I told you that when you collected it from me! What is the point of all of this?!" She nearly roared in anger, but somehow the dragoness managed to rein it in.

"Ah, but that is the point of us coming," the first tech informed her. "You see... that egg hatched. And, unlike what you'd told us, the father was not a black dragon..."

Auloll blinked in surprise. "You mean... I mean... Really?"

513 nodded. "Yes, really. And the Boss told all of you after that first hybrid egg that interbreeding wasn't allowed. We're looking for full blooded hatchlings to match with the children and these unexpected hybrids cou-"

He was interrupted by the dragons' roars of anger at his statement. "How dare you?" Auloll asked. "You take our eggs away and give them to these strange beasts that you make somehow and now you think that you can tell us who we can and cannot breed with?" The black dragon's tail thumped against the floor in her anger. "Who do you think you are, anyways?"

Shaking nervously, the first tech spoke up, "Well, you did agree to certain terms when you signed up here. You would allow us to take old scales, blood, eggs, and other items in return for you being fed and guaranteed safety. We've held up our end of the bargain. You've never been harmed and-"

"I'm getting tired of all of this! You little morsels think that you can control us? Ha! We should never have allowed you to talk us into this whole mess. I should just dissolve you both where you stand..."

One of the gold males stepped forward. "Auloll, we did agree. And we all thought it was great at first, remember?"

Auloll snapped at the male. "Oh shut your trap, Palas. Isn't it obvious that they've lied to us? They're slowly trying to take more and more control over what we can and cannot do. Before you know it, we won't be able to so much as flick our tail without having these little hyped up beings telling us that we can't do that!" Several of the other dragons started to agree with what Auloll was saying. "Yeah. Who gives them the right?" They started to ask one another.

The techs exchanged glances. This was going bad fast.

119 quickly moved over to the panel and hit the alarm button, which caused the alarm in the main building to go off, red flashing lights starting up as well. The announcement system in the main building also started up. "Attention. Attention. An emergency has been reported in the dragon stables. All techs please report there immediately." Red lights began to flash in hallways and rooms as the announcement came over the intercom.

Techs began to pour out of every little nook and cranny, making their way towards the entrance to the dragon stables. They appeared armed and... just when did D-corp have this many techs?

Peri looked up from the student files as the alarm went off in the building, the warning light flashing red in his office. He motioned for Nibal to be silent, seeing that the boy was about to ask him what was wrong. The man nearly swore when the system announced that the emergency was from the dragon stables. "Blast it all!" He got up so quickly that his desk chair twirled about in circles after he'd already made it across the room. "Stay here, Nibal."

"But, P'las..."

"Stay! And keep Kalseru here as well." With that, the man was out the door and heading down the hallway, joining a crowd of techs making their way towards the dragon stables. As the group entered the stables, most of the techs armed with very large tranquilizers, Peri glanced around, then moved forward to where the dragons were still hissing at one another and at the approaching techs. "What's going on?" He asked, raising his voice so that the dragons could hear his question.

"You see, Palas? They don't trust us! Now we've scared them and they've brought everyone out. Look! Some of the pesky morsels are carrying guns! See how they don't trust us? To them we're just animals. Breeding stock for their little lab rats!" Behind Auloll, the other chromatic dragons had gathered, along with the wyverns and they were all hissing angrily. "They don't trust us," most of them were telling each other and the other dragons.

Palas snorted and flicked his tail. "Just because they've gone a bit far, doesn't mean anything. Besides, you were the one who suggested spewing acid at them. Of course they'd bring in weapons since you threatened them first. You should just calm down, Auloll. We can talk things out with them."

"Talk?! TALK?!?" Auloll practically spat at Palas. "Why should we talk? It didn't work last time, now did it? Remember the last time they got mad when there was that frost dragon with the hybrid? We tried talking then and look. It got us nowhere. They're yelling at us once again."

513 scurried over to the panel once again and, fumbling about some, grabbed the phone. He quickly punched in the number to Alan's office and offered the receiver over to 119, glaring at the man as if to say 'You made me talk to him earlier... it's YOUR turn now'. 119 shook his head frantically and when 513 heard Alan answer, he groaned and pulled the phone back towards his ear. "Yeah, Boss. Listen, this isn't working. The dragons are getting close to fighting. Got any ideas...?"

"No, the techs... just made things worse, it seems. Yes, yes, I know. We were the ones to pull the alarm... but... well, we panicked, sir. I realize now that it was a mistake, but... It's not going well. Somone's going to get hurt if things don't change quickly." 513 winced at Alan's remarks on the other end. "No, sir. I don't have any ideas..."

"Auloll, you did agree to certain things when you arrived at D-corp. One of them was that you would provide full-blooded offspring for the company." Peri butted in, peering over the banister at the almost feuding dragons. "You should hold up your side of the bargain. We've held up our side. You're fed, you're safe, and you don't have to do much of anything."

The man was hoping to get the dragons to calm down. Not exactly something easy to do when the beasts were as large as houses, could spit fire or acid or some other type of breath weapon at you with ease, and were being faced with lots of armed men who'd shoot as soon as they'd got the command. Peri was thinking hard and fast on what could get the dragons to calm down.

Unfortunately, he was coming up empty-handed.
