My parents slapped me in the face with something the other day:

Apparently we're taking a family trip to Kittyhawk (Nag's Head) beach the 11th-18th of August.

Now, Robert and I are moving into our new apartment on the 15th of August, so we can't go until the second half of the week stay, but dude. . . dude! gonk

I've been slacking off real, real bad lately so not exercising is no longer an option! I already know I'll be wearing a one piece, which I'm not 100% comfortable with... but I kind of want to wear a two piece, just because the bathing suit I own will give me the funkiest tan lines in the history of man, and since I wear tank tops 95% of the time (I overheat very easily), so my mom said she'd buy me a cute bikini while we're at the beach should I want one u_u;; I do want one. . . but. . . . . . but. . . . . . gonk

I used to keep bikini season in mind, but lately I've just been watching what I've been eating and not exercising u_u;; I don't know what I'm going to do! I only have 8 weeks to lose the other 15 (give or take) pounds until my goal weight, 8 weeks to tone up! burning_eyes

Crud.

Any suggestions?

What inspires you to eat right and exercise?
What have you been doing to get ready for the beach // pool season?
Are there any swim suits // bikinis you have your eyes on?

Here are some I really like x3
Black with Strawberries, side cut outs
Green Polka Dots
All on this page!

This isn't bad, Svenja. In fact, it's very doable. You can lose two pounds a week. All you have to do is, right now, today, get back to your exercises. Give yourself half an hour a day, five days a week (and try not to take two days off in a row), of vigorous activity. That's not much. You've probably already been doing that just fine. Just get back to it. smile

I've posted the Good Health Guidelines, published by Weight Watchers, in my Weight Watchers Discussion thread. Look them up and try living by those. You'll find it's actually very, very easy to lose those 2 pounds a week.

For toning up your tummy, do this: Lie on the floor. Bend your knees so that your feet can be flat against the floor. If you need it, put something under your neck to let your neck be straight so you can breathe right. Take a DEEP breath -- breathe so it makes your belly move, not your chest. Hold the breath for about 2 seconds. Then let it out by making a loud, forceful hissing sound, like a snake. SSSSSSSSSSSS! Force all the air out of your body as loudly and as fast as possible. Without you even thinking about them, this will activate the exact stomach muscles that you're wanting to flatten. If you do that twenty times, once or twice a day, you'll find that your stomach muscles become much more firm, and your stomach will be much more flat. You'll feel confident in those adorable bikinis.

Also, remember that while you're on vacation, you won't be seeing anyone that you'll ever see again, except for the people that already love you and think you're beautiful. You don't have to impress anybody. Just wear what you want to wear. If someone doesn't like the way you look, tell them to look at their shoes or stick their noses into a book, it's not your problem!

It doesn't seem that possible :[ I've lost so much weight already that my body just seems to be incredibly lax about it, now. My routine every week usually consists of 5 days of cardio / aerobics, usually beteen 20-40 minutes, one day of yoga, usually around 30-60 minutes, and a meditiation day. I recently was able to lose 3lbs about a week or two ago after having suffered a 6 months long plateau, but the scale isn't budging again :[ And it's not even really the weight I'm concerned with. Like, I have an ultimate goal weight of around 110-115, but that's just a number and I'm trying to go by it by what I see in the mirror and how I feel, you know? Like, if my dream body's at 120lbs, that's awesome! But I feel like I'm never going to get there u_u;;

I get it, Svenja, and I've been there too. I was there for six months, actually, and I JUST got back down from my plateau.

You seem to be doing the right things, and the only problems might be whether you're getting enough water or enough rest. That, and possibly wanting to tone up your body so that you feel more shapely. You can do this. It's not magic or miracles, it's science: if you keep doing the right things, eventually you'll get the results you want. Unless there's something medically wrong. Have you spoken with your doctor and gotten tested for things like hypothyroidism or polycystic ovarian syndrome? A number of things can result in weight gain, or stubborn fat that won't budge even if you're doing all the right things. Speak with your doctor, and if she tells you there's nothing wrong, then just keep doing what you're doing. The results will come. Meantime, chin up! Good posture and a smile often convince people that you look great, even if you see yourself as merely average.

I asked my doctor about it last year (my OBGYN), and he said that there's nothing wrong with me, but the birth control will definitely interfere with weight loss u_u;; But there's nothing I can do about that, because all types of the pill will do that and I can't stop taking it, you know? :[ It sucks that something so useful will make something else in life so lame u_u;;

Thank you for the encouragement! I've just changed my exercise regimen again, and hopefully that'll boost my body in to burning fat and calories more effectively.

Attagirl, Svenja! I'm proud of you for keeping plugging away at it. Have you also considered adding one more day of workout to each week?

Also, think about looking twice at your eating regimen. Sometimes as we get used to our nutrition plan (diet, whatever), we slowly let extra fats or sugars creep in during the seasoning phase of cooking, or we slowly start serving larger and larger portions.

Another possible cause of your plateau may be that you simply aren't eating enough. I was looking through your weight loss journal (I'm not creepy, I was just investigating), and it looks like you eat, on average, under 1000 cal per day. Admittedly, I know nothing about your metabolism, but everything I've read suggests that eating below 1200 cal sends your body into starvation mode, which could be why you've hit the plateau-your body is storing everything you put into it.

One thing I did notice, though, is that you have a really low protein intake. This could also be part of the problem. Low food protein levels force your body to get its protein from the muscles, resulting in less muscle tone, less strength, and more flab, which is exactly what you don't want. I'd suggest trying to incorporate some form of lean protein, such as chicken or fish, or soy products, or light/fat free dairy into every meal, just to ensure that your muscles aren't eating themselves after your cardio workouts.

Also, have you tried lifting weights? I've found that changing up my exercise routine (duration, intensity, type, etc.) helps to minimize (but not eliminate, unfortunately) plateaus. Besides, lifting weights will help you tone up, and will not make you look all muscley. All you would need would be a couple sets of dumbbells in different weights, which would only set you back maybe $50 at the most. The key is to not get them too light-if they're not heavy enough, you won't get maximum benefits. I'm not talking 50lbs or anything, but heavy enough so you can only do 12 or so reps with proper form. And, if you lift before you do cardio, your body will already be warmed up and ready to burn fat, so your cardio workouts will do more for you than if you did them without lifting.

Good luck!

It's actually under 900 cals a day that it's starvation 3nodding Though my eating under 1200 cals a day isn't good sweatdrop I try to eat as much as I can, but my boyfriend and I are still incredibly low on money (I just got hired at TJMaxx, though, so yay!) and I really just eat when I'm hungry and can't bring myself to eat when I'm not.. :[

I'll have to look into more soy products, because those will probably save more money. I can't eat too much fish or chicken, though Robert and I do eat canned chicken, salmon, and tuna at least once a week (we can't buy fresh chicken often and we can buy fresh fish . . . well, basically never).

I do lift weights 3nodding Every other day, and I do around 100-200 curls and push ups every day.

Thank you!

I've been basically eating nothing other than special k and smart start cereal, oatmeal, fruits and veggies for the past week and plan to stick with it for the next few weeks :[ So the only sugars getting into my body are the ones occuring naturally in fruits and veggies and the small amount in my cereal. I try to switch up my diet at least every 4-5 weeks, just because I know it's good to keep your body guessing when you're trying to lose weight and burn calories.

Good idea, switching up your diet once a month or so. I do that myself. Lately my favorite lunch is a turkey wrap:

1 ounce of turkey, diced/chopped/shredded
1 Roma tomato, sliced thinly
3 small button mushrooms, sliced thinly
1 C shredded Romaine lettuce
1 nine-inch, whole-wheat tortilla

Going by Weight Watchers, this will be about 4 to 6 points, depending on the exact nutritional content of your brand of tortillas. I also sometimes throw on a little creamy dijon mustard or some salsa verde, depending on my mood. This also takes care of about two vegetable servings, out of the 5 fruit/vegetable servings you need each day. The more veggies you stuff into the wrap, the better.

That sounds. . . absolutely delicious! *drools*

I'd been wanting to join weight watchers, but the best I can do is buy the prepackaged or weight watchers approved products in the store. . . I don't have money to prepare my own meals every lunch and dinner crying I really wish I did, but it'll have to wait until school starts up when I'll have my loan and my pay check.
PostPosted: Thu Jun 28, 2007 7:08 am

Svenja, good for you. Are you sure you can't get a job for the remaining weeks of summer, too? Joining Weight Watchers was the best thing I've ever done for my health, and that includes the eleven necessary surgeries I've had on the same part of my body (don't ask, it's detailed and awful). By the way, the cheapest way to go about it is to register and buy the Monthly Pass online. With that, you get access to their eTools on the WW website, plus unlimited access to as many meetings as you want to attend. I've got one friend who does nine meetings every week, just to get the ideas and the support.

The basic ideas of WW, I've posted as one of the first posts in the Weight Watchers Discussion thread, so that'll give you a good head start. For your daily Points total, that's not too hard. Though the formula has some variation to it, the BASIC idea is that you start with 20 points a day, and then you add another 2 points for every 25 pounds you weigh over 100. So if you weight 180 pounds, that's 20 points for the 100 pounds, then 2 points for 125, 2 more for 150, 2 more for 175: 26 points per day.

A Weight Watchers meal is going to be anywhere from 4 to 10 points; the bars are 1 to 2 points; the muffins are 3 points. One piece of fruit is usually 1 point, though if a banana is large it's 2 points, and a whole grapefruit is 2 points. Vegetables have no points, but starchy vegetables (potatoes, rice, beans, corn) are about 2 points per half-cup. Fish and fowl are 1 point per ounce if they're low fat; chicken with the skin is the same as meat (mammal meat, that is), which is 3 points for 2 ounces. There, that should be enough to get you started until you're able to afford going to the meetings.

I just landed a job at TJMaxx, but every cent of that is going towards rent :[ I'll have a bit of money left over every month, but it won't be enough to maintain an incredibly healthy diet. It'll be healthier than pizza and McDonald's, but I can't be buying fish and chicken and salad and tofu and all that stuff every other week :[ It's just too expensive for the time being.
